3.5-Mile-Tall Tower on the Moon: 5 Mysterious Photos from Space

  • Rare, lesser-seen mysterious photos from space...
After the Sun and Moon, Venus is the brightest object visible from Earth-a barren, desolate world that is both familiar and eerily alien.
From 1961 to 1984, as NASA prioritized its Apollo Moon missions, the Soviet space agency conducted the less-publicized Venera program, aiming to unravel the mysteries of Venus. Throughout this period, numerous probes and landers were launched to gather data and capture images of this enigmatic world.
Of these, 13 probes successfully penetrated the Venusian atmosphere, with ten managing to land on the planet's surface.
While the success rate might not have met Soviet aspirations, it denoted a remarkable accomplishment: these were the first human-made objects to enter another planet's atmosphere.
What most perplexed engineers and researchers was that after successfully landing, the probes would soon encounter abrupt, catastrophic failures. Their operational lifespan ranged from 23 to 120 minutes.
On December 15, 1970, Venera 7 entered the Venusian atmosphere. Unfortunately, its parachute malfunctioned, causing it to plummet for 30 minutes before crash landing on Venus at 38 miles per hour.
Remarkably, it survived long enough to transmit data, revealing a surface temperature of around 900 degrees Fahrenheit and a pressure analogous to being more than half a mile underwater on Earth. Venera 7 became the first spacecraft to soft land on another planet and the first to transmit data from there back to Earth.
Venera 9 would be the first device to return images from another planet. It became one of just four to ever do so successfully due to the conditions of the planet's atmosphere quickly rendering the probes useless.
The rare images reveal a bleak world of cracked rocks, arid plains, and hostile desert. Later probes produced sepia-tinged wide-angle panoramas of the surface.
More advanced probes were then sent, which measured wind speed using microphones and attempted to map the surface using radar, but all ultimately succumbed to the harsh environment.
The data from the Soviet landings offer vivid insights into Venus. The planet's sulfur content would create a repulsive rotten egg odor, its rain-acidic enough to dissolve human flesh-and the consensus is that the harshness of the environment precludes the existence of familiar life forms.
Yet, in 2012, Russian scientist Leonid Ksanfomaliti published a paper suggesting that images from the 1982 Venera 13 probe hinted at potential life forms. He believed that certain objects, which appeared mobile, resembled a "disk," a "black flap," and even a "scorpion." These, he proposed, might be creatures that evolved to thrive in Venus's extremes.
Ksanfomaliti's claims, while stirring conspiracy theories about classified photos and potential signs of extraterrestrial life and structures, were met with substantial skepticism from the broader scientific community.
While we can be reasonably certain that the terrific heat and crushing pressure on the surface of Venus is responsible for the short lifespans of the probes to have landed on it, it remains surprising that so few should have managed to transmit a single image back to Earth.
There remains a great deal to be learned about Venus.

Thanks to everyone for the immense love you've shown towards the intro. However, I'm trying something different today and leaving it out. There have been some peculiarities with UA-cam lately, and despite the affection many of you have for the intro, I've noticed that a significant number tend to skip it. This might inadvertently impact how UA-cam perceives the video's engagement. I hope you understand, and I genuinely appreciate your continued support.

Really? People are skipping it? Who are these people! It’s great and unique but do what you feel is best we don’t come here for the intro it’s your content and it’s great I’ve been watching for years, the only thing I can think of regarding the into is when you watch a marathon of things the same sound can annoy some people it happens to me(never with your intro though!) but you keep hearing it and it annoys you so you skip it, maybe this has something to do with the skipped intro? I’m just one person but I skip it because the music is very bass heavy and loud at one particular point. If it were to be remixed (normalized, EQ’d and run through a compressor, or maybe a band-pass filter) it might keep its character without being so jarring.

to be fair, for the period even if they did upgrade them it would be marginal gains as the material science then wasn't as advance as it is now. With recent breakthroughs in developing circuit boards made with materials that can withstand the pressure and heat that would be experienced on Venus. Also consider it might haven been cheaper to just build something that could last about an hour and have the next probe be ready to launch when the other one dies, as getting to Venus is considerably easier to get to than Mars.

Life out there ... that's a reach. The claims on life on other planets are great - but people seem to forget that life requires more than just a barren planet. Even the most remote places on Earth that have multicellular life don't exist in isolation. All but the simplest forms of life can "eat" sun only requiring CO2 and water to function. Fun not-a-fact. Someone left the lens caps on all Zone 3's cameras! Instead of having one of their friends sent to a gulag, they took very high magnification photos of Krushchev's nose. Those craters you see are actually blackheads. That spire is really one of those annoying fine hairs you can just see at the edge of your vision but never do anything about.

Life is unexpected

The variable nature of Tabby's Star along with countless others including our own sun can be explained so very easily with THE most abundant an obvious force in all the cosmos, and explained in such a way that a 5 year old will immediately understand it. The answer is of course that force which controls, shapes, and connects the universe. In star-wars lingo..."it binds the galaxy together", along with most probably everything else in the cosmos . That force.......is Electromagnetism.

Judging by the curvature of the moon's surface in that tower photo - around 11:30mins - that tower is not 3 miles tall but over 300 km ( 240 miles) tall. Something that size would be observable by every moon mission and lunar satellite.

There is a NASA site and it has Hidden Mission Apollo over the moon and a lot of pictures. There are many of these towers unfortunately the pictures are unavailable now. When you try to access them it looks like a code and you can't see the pictures. Tall tower with a round object on the top and spiraling around, from the ground to the top, is a thick cable and a building not to far from the tower. The pictures pointed out the tower and building with arrows. I searched and can't seem to find it. Wonder why?

We have such a bias in our hypotheses of what other alien civilizations might be like. We assume they would evolve in the same manner we do and therefore would mimic our own evolutionary story. Perhaps a type two civilization has no need to generate energy. Perhaps they can harness energy through their power of thought. We can only theorize based on what we know. We know very little.

Pertaining to the lost tapes. It is unlikely that NASA would have erased those recordings to use the media for any archival purpose. The antiquated format would be of no archival use. Any recordings would be preserved on a more robust and future proof format available at the time the archiving was taking place (years after the original recordings were made). They were either accidentally lost, or erased/destroyed on purpose. Having worked with electronically recorded media my whole life, I would guess they were accidentally misplaced or mislabeled. Probably sitting in storage somewhere, or in a landfill.
