There is a lot more about a professional arranger than meets the eyes. On most of the workstations and synths, the best you can do about accompaniment is playing with arpeggiators. That gives you similar results, but with rare exceptions such as Karma, these arpeggiators are very limited, resulting into very static music with little variations. An arranger gives you a lot of performance features and as you play chords, the band follows you. You have many variations, startings, endings, breaks, and full control over the channels that are playing. The most interesting functionality that many people ignore is MIDI. An arranger like the Pa series offer full MIDI implementation, so if you are someone like me and have more then one synth or sound modules, you are not limited to the arranger sounds and you can use your arranger as a controller for external instruments. In my case I use my Pa4X as a controller for 4 other synths and I have to tell you the sound I get from the setup is wonderful.
Good point!..If you have a good arranger keyboard and hook it up to a great sound module.. You can probably program all kinds of patterns and melodies thats probably impossible on a regular workstation.
This is the vertical screen MPC key61 should have had. They dropped the ball. I played with the Pa4x Oriental last year in Sam Ash and the sound quality magnificent. But it cost too much, lol.

Impressive ? invelibable is that it came with no Quick record" like all the ones before, in two years since new, I am waiting for the midi quick record but it is not happening even they say they are trying.
Only problem so far is no audio over USB like I'm used to with the Kronos. And also no instrument definition file to use with your digital audio sequencer such as cakewalk.
I’m interested to try it, even tho I’m a workstation guy. I really liked the EPs from the SV-1, and those are in there. Some of the acoustic sounds might be a lot better than workstations, with the 24 oscillators. Wondering how full-featured the sequencer is compared to a workstation.
Yeah they never did a deep dive into the track sequencing other than the double sequencer in any of the videos. There still really pushing it towards the gigging guys.
I've currently got a Pa3x right now, and have been comparing the spec sheet between that keyboard and the Pa5x, and honestly I am seriously wanting to upgrade to the new Pa5x. In more ways than just sound design. The screen on the Pa5x is just GORGEOUS!!!!!! Not to mention that the Pa5x has borrowed features from the KRONOS and Nautilus, especially with sounds and the Set List.
If I were going for a $3,000+ piece of hardware, I think I would go Kurzweil K2700. The Korg is still something quite special and deserves the love it gets. I would take one if you gave it to me. It’s a beast but while I could afford one, I don’t need one. It would be a guilty pleasure.
Synthetic sound makes for custom tracks. If you wanna use the soundsets of Akai or make your own packs then cool... if you wanna do some Stevie Wonder, Mic Jackson music then you get what you pay for...
For this price you can get a Mac studio - tape it the bottom of a midi keyboard put a small screen on top and have a WAY better outfit - probably have change for dinner!
I have the Pa4x and this is made to "play" live (melody and arranger parts) but this is not made to tweak the sounds in real time. A lot of menu diving and the touchscreen does respond slowly sometimes. The synth engine is supposed to be good, but I am not sure a lot of people really uses it at full capability). I wish the new P45x have knobs instead of faders, to solve this "real time sound tweaking" issue but Korg prefers to continue with the faders... I don't see enough improvement to go the next generation PA and the price is... OMG !!!! (the pa4x was 2500 euros, a lot of money but now we are talking about 4600 euros and that's another world...)
Yeah I feel you the price is crazy. If it had a deeper sampler and more synths engines like the Kronos I could understand. But without it I think it should be priced around 3k.
My PA600QT has alot of the features this flagship keyboard has! The one I never forget and do enjoy is the 24 oscillators! Yes, the more you stack, the louder the keyboard gets and the more sluggish it will become. The new update to the PA600 has the sampler now and again, the more you throw at this board the more unstable it becomes. The PA5X has all the bells and whistles with the internal HARDWARE to handle it now but the PA600 has alot of the concept software already in place but beware, it will crash the hardware if pushed too far. Korg has been using LINUX as the CORE OS for the best of the best of it's keyboards lately and even their newer synths are using that OS as the core and of course, now you get ALOT of power for a smaller price! This new Arranger just brings alot of the goodies INSIDE, to the OUTSIDE as you put it(paraphrasing here). I will not pay $5000 for a keyboard though.. thats just stupid.. I will build one! 😛

I hate when the keyboard designers leave so much extra space for stuff. You just imagine all the functionalities they couldve thrown in with buttons, knobs, or sliders. Sometimes it is dope. Perfect place to rest a laptop or phone when you don't have no desk space because it's already filled with gear. Have like a virus synth put it up on top and wire it up lol.
I have a Pa4x , honestly I think am not into arrangers, this thing plays it self, so what’s the point. Perform to a well produced backing track, it would be the same and it will cost you much less. I Like the 16 pad matrix, which has velocity and polyphonic aftertouch, which Roland had abandoned since the Fantom G. All F06, New Fantom, the pads are only good for clip launching at a fixed velocity. If the add a linear sequencer to the PA5x, it would like getting the upgraded Fantom G we that we have all been waiting for.
Korgs new keyboard? Vs Akai 61... Huge difference considering synthesizer. Not even in the same class fr. This is like Michael Jackson vs Justin Bieber. Only Roland could hang with Korg. A producer keyboard vs a pianist wizardry. Might cost double but the output is 10x the power. I'd love to have a workstation/arranger like this but none of them chop samples like the MPC especially with the new update MPC3... If I get a MPC Key I miss out on the amazing sound engines and sounds that the Pa5X, Fantom Ex and etc. provide. I feel these workstations and arrangers just focus on 1 shots or Loops it seems like for performance reasons. Ideally the work it'll take to chop samples would be copy and paste a loop to each pad and trim them precisely to the chops you want... yughck! Or maybe I just haven't seen the right tutorial or video of someone chopping samples on these kind of arrangers/workstations.

What mystifies me is that Korg have had nice capacitive touch screens for quite a while, but Yamaha continue to put resistive ones on even their flagship keyboards.
BEFORE YOU BUY!!! 🔻 Estimated converting time from .SET to .KST: 2 hours (500Mb set) 🔻 Loading same set on keyboard: 20-25 min 🔻 Pads of screen should not act as a play button. When clicking on a pad on the screen, it should open the menu for you to select another pad like on every previous model. 🔻 Fill-in button after half of measure with your style on will play only your drums from the fill-in while the variation drums and accompaniments play altogether. 🔻 Home Screen needs mixer at all times. For live performers, we need levels of our drums, bass, accompaniments, lower and uppers on the screen the whole time. We don’t have the time to look and switch pages for this. 🔻 If your style is on and you turn on a pad, if the pad is more than two measures long, it will only start on the second measure. Regardless of when you click the pad. 🔻 When selecting a different pad, after clicking 4 buttons and pages to get there, it takes you to factory pads and not where the original pad is on your user. When you do select another pad, the volume automatically goes to 100 and the FX send automatically goes to 40. 🔻 Selecting a style is not fast enough. After you click on a new style while playing, it will blink a few times before it selects it. Most of the time, this is way over a measure and a half of the current style playing. This is not ideal for live performers. 🔻 There is no way for you to select the second style and have it in sync with the first one even with tempo lock on. It’s humanly impossible. Your tempo will match but you cannot physically hit the second style perfectly on beat with your first one. 🔻 If your pads are on while your style is playing, as soon as you select a new style, your pads turn off instantly. Way before the new style even comes on. 🔻 Intro 1 is not supposed to play your lowers when selected. Your lowers should work for intro 2 but not for intro 1. There’s a reason for that. Some peoples intro 1 plays a melody or plays different chords. 🔻 We should have a preference of not having the lists of styles, sounds and pads be in alphabetical order. People had these organized on the 4x into separate folders and pages. 🔻 If you are used to having a certain sound or drum kit you like on (user 1, page 3), you know it’s there 100% and you learn it that way. Not anymore, because everything is alphabetical order, things will move every time you add a new sound, pad, style, song, drumkit, etc. complete disaster if you know where your things are. 🔻 Acc. 3 freezes on the first chord you hit instead of chords you are playing. Same goes with some bass on styles. I’m playing a different chord progression, acc. 3 is stuck on the first chord without changing. 🔻 Some styles I made have drums or percussion that is detuned using my pitch bender. It will not play the correct detune until the second measure of the style. 🔻 If you are using quarter scale, this is not the keyboard for you. It will switch on and off at random. It’s almost like every few seconds it will play your quarter tone and then go back to equal scale. Non stop. 🔻 When making a new style, the menus for quantize, delete, velocity, cut and others are missing. 🔻 The bass should not be the first in order. Every keyboard since day 1 has it as follows….drums-percs-bass-acc1-acc2-acc3-acc4-acc5. 🔻 We need an option to customize your own keyboard. There are photos for every sound and drumkit next to it. You cannot select the photo you want when saving a new sound or style. 🔻 Website says we have 4GB and 8GB compressed but the keyboard shows we have 2.5GB. Not even close to what Korg is advertising on their website. If you think your going to have 4GB of space when buying this keyboard, you’re going to be extremely upset to find out you have only 2.5GB of space. 🔻 There should be an option on the main Home Screen from the drop menu to show only one style instead of two. Not everyone will be using two styles since they can’t even sync them perfectly anyways. It would be nice if you hold shift and play on the style for it to sync with tempo and for it to start perfectly with the current style playing. 🔻 When playing a pad that is a loop, a slice from the loops starts when you press the button. It doesn’t start where the loop should resume naturally. 🔻 If you start with a pad that is a loop (without the style being on) and then turn on the style after, the pad will be off from the style by milliseconds. Your ear will catch it and you know it’s not perfectly on. 🔻 When you hit your fill button, the variation will not go to the first measure, regardless if you have it set to start on the first measure. 🔻 If you have a pad that is an accompaniment or guitar, it turns off when you turn off the memory for your chords. 🔻 There is no Kaoss. 🔻 There is no option for midi to style converter. 🔻 Locked sets will not work nor convert. 🔻 If you have a folder with only styles, you will not be able to open it and view any of them. It must be a set folder for it to convert to the the KST format. 🔻 No support for EC-5. 🔻 For existing style, cv length cannot be changed. 🔻 There are factory styles that are still on here from the pa80. The house, dance, techno are not from this century. They are indeed what they say they are but not anywhere near the year 2022. So when you select dance, it is dance, just not this year. More like 1998 dance. 🔻 The screen, when all the way down, is not flush with the rest of the keyboard. It is slightly off and sits a little higher. 🔻 On the 4x, we were given a limit of approx. 15000 samples for 1.5GB of space. You are now given approx. 30000 for 2.5GB of space. Even though Korg advertises it as it giving you 4GB. 🔻 Korg needs to stop changing the format of extensions for styles, sets, sounds, etc. The person buying the pa5x is 99.9% coming from a 4x. And that person also came from a 3x and so on. It was already annoying enough that you couldn’t load 3x sets on the 4x without loading the folders separately. Now it’s just a jumble mess for people trying to switch over to a keyboard they thought they were familiar with. 🔻 Let’s be honest, wood sidings with a metal body do not go. Ever. With anything. 🔻 If you are from the balkans or middle eastern region and have a locked usb set, it will not work on here. ------------------------- These are coming from one musician only. And that’s for the way I use the keyboard. I know there are many more that other musicians know of and have found. Biggest flop of an Arranger Keyboard release from any known company. It’s extremely sad when it comes from a huge company such as Korg. You, the customer, are the beta tester. The beta testers that were given this keyboard months and months before it’s release, did absolutely nothing but leak photos and videos of it. And the sad part of it is, Korg hand selected these people to get their input on the 5x before they released it to the public. I understand that Korg can make a new OS for the 5X. This wasn’t ready for public release. Nowhere near. Same thing goes for the Pa4x. I know the 4x was release in 2015 but in all honesty, with all the updates they had to do to it, the 4x as we know it was released in 2019. 4 years of bugs and problems. If you are looking for a 5x and they are not in stock at the moment, call your dealer or store every few days. I know for a fact that there are customers returning them back after a few days of playing with it. You might be lucky and get a 5x for a used price. Good luck.
I already have a Fantom 7 and I love my Kronos 2 (but hate the 12 year old user interface). I am seriously looking to buy this cool 76 key Pa5X, but it’s an arranger. The Korg Nautilus is barely a ‘me-too’ work station that does not have the depth of my Kronos, heck, it doesn’t even have aftertouch. I cannot afford both this Pa5X AND the (hopefully coming) new replacement for my aging Kronos, and my impatience makes it difficult to wait for the 2023 NAMM in hopes that a new flagship Korg workstation is introduced. So, that’s the conundrum. Buy the cool Pa5X now, or wait a year to see what’s ahead. And no, I’m not interested in anything from Yamaha, Nord, Behringer, Arturia nor Kurzweil
By all means try the rest but buy the best! The Yamaha Genos is four years old and has that annoying static screen, however it’s the sounds that matters. Listen to comparisons between the Genos and the PA5x. Sorry no comparison. Every instrument on the Korg is inferior. Long live Genos!

My pa5x freezes up. When changing styles. Reg pop name disappears. And also has no midi recording editing like the older ones. Sad. Keeps on freezing.

Kronos has like 11 synthesizer engines..But this keyboard has so many ways to play your performance and has so many style categories to choose from.

🔻 When selecting a different pad, after clicking 4 buttons and pages to get there, it takes you to factory pads and not where the original pad is on your user. When you do select another pad, the volume automatically goes to 100 and the FX send automatically goes to 40.
🔻 Selecting a style is not fast enough. After you click on a new style while playing, it will blink a few times before it selects it. Most of the time, this is way over a measure and a half of the current style playing. This is not ideal for live performers.
🔻 There is no way for you to select the second style and have it in sync with the first one even with tempo lock on. It’s humanly impossible. Your tempo will match but you cannot physically hit the second style perfectly on beat with your first one.
🔻 If your pads are on while your style is playing, as soon as you select a new style, your pads turn off instantly. Way before the new style even comes on.
🔻 Intro 1 is not supposed to play your lowers when selected. Your lowers should work for intro 2 but not for intro 1. There’s a reason for that. Some peoples intro 1 plays a melody or plays different chords.
🔻 We should have a preference of not having the lists of styles, sounds and pads be in alphabetical order. People had these organized on the 4x into separate folders and pages.
🔻 If you are used to having a certain sound or drum kit you like on (user 1, page 3), you know it’s there 100% and you learn it that way. Not anymore, because everything is alphabetical order, things will move every time you add a new sound, pad, style, song, drumkit, etc. complete disaster if you know where your things are.
🔻 Acc. 3 freezes on the first chord you hit instead of chords you are playing. Same goes with some bass on styles. I’m playing a different chord progression, acc. 3 is stuck on the first chord without changing.
🔻 Some styles I made have drums or percussion that is detuned using my pitch bender. It will not play the correct detune until the second measure of the style.
🔻 If you are using quarter scale, this is not the keyboard for you. It will switch on and off at random. It’s almost like every few seconds it will play your quarter tone and then go back to equal scale. Non stop.
🔻 When making a new style, the menus for quantize, delete, velocity, cut and others are missing.
🔻 The bass should not be the first in order. Every keyboard since day 1 has it as follows….drums-percs-bass-acc1-acc2-acc3-acc4-acc5.
🔻 We need an option to customize your own keyboard. There are photos for every sound and drumkit next to it. You cannot select the photo you want when saving a new sound or style.
🔻 Website says we have 4GB and 8GB compressed but the keyboard shows we have 2.5GB. Not even close to what Korg is advertising on their website. If you think your going to have 4GB of space when buying this keyboard, you’re going to be extremely upset to find out you have only 2.5GB of space.
🔻 There should be an option on the main Home Screen from the drop menu to show only one style instead of two. Not everyone will be using two styles since they can’t even sync them perfectly anyways. It would be nice if you hold shift and play on the style for it to sync with tempo and for it to start perfectly with the current style playing.
🔻 When playing a pad that is a loop, a slice from the loops starts when you press the button. It doesn’t start where the loop should resume naturally.
🔻 If you start with a pad that is a loop (without the style being on) and then turn on the style after, the pad will be off from the style by milliseconds. Your ear will catch it and you know it’s not perfectly on.
🔻 When you hit your fill button, the variation will not go to the first measure, regardless if you have it set to start on the first measure.
🔻 If you have a pad that is an accompaniment or guitar, it turns off when you turn off the memory for your chords.
🔻 There is no Kaoss.
🔻 There is no option for midi to style converter.
🔻 Locked sets will not work nor convert.
🔻 If you have a folder with only styles, you will not be able to open it and view any of them. It must be a set folder for it to convert to the the KST format.
🔻 No support for EC-5.
🔻 For existing style, cv length cannot be changed.
🔻 There are factory styles that are still on here from the pa80. The house, dance, techno are not from this century. They are indeed what they say they are but not anywhere near the year 2022. So when you select dance, it is dance, just not this year. More like 1998 dance.
🔻 The screen, when all the way down, is not flush with the rest of the keyboard. It is slightly off and sits a little higher.
🔻 On the 4x, we were given a limit of approx. 15000 samples for 1.5GB of space. You are now given approx. 30000 for 2.5GB of space. Even though Korg advertises it as it giving you 4GB.
🔻 Korg needs to stop changing the format of extensions for styles, sets, sounds, etc. The person buying the pa5x is 99.9% coming from a 4x. And that person also came from a 3x and so on. It was already annoying enough that you couldn’t load 3x sets on the 4x without loading the folders separately. Now it’s just a jumble mess for people trying to switch over to a keyboard they thought they were familiar with.
🔻 Let’s be honest, wood sidings with a metal body do not go. Ever. With anything.
🔻 If you are from the balkans or middle eastern region and have a locked usb set, it will not work on here.

These are coming from one musician only. And that’s for the way I use the keyboard. I know there are many more that other musicians know of and have found.
Biggest flop of an Arranger Keyboard release from any known company. It’s extremely sad when it comes from a huge company such as Korg. You, the customer, are the beta tester. The beta testers that were given this keyboard months and months before it’s release, did absolutely nothing but leak photos and videos of it. And the sad part of it is, Korg hand selected these people to get their input on the 5x before they released it to the public.
I understand that Korg can make a new OS for the 5X. This wasn’t ready for public release. Nowhere near. Same thing goes for the Pa4x. I know the 4x was release in 2015 but in all honesty, with all the updates they had to do to it, the 4x as we know it was released in 2019. 4 years of bugs and problems.
If you are looking for a 5x and they are not in stock at the moment, call your dealer or store every few days. I know for a fact that there are customers returning them back after a few days of playing with it. You might be lucky and get a 5x for a used price. Good luck.

I already have a Fantom 7 and I love my Kronos 2 (but hate the 12 year old user interface). I am seriously looking to buy this cool 76 key Pa5X, but it’s an arranger. The Korg Nautilus is barely a ‘me-too’ work station that does not have the depth of my Kronos, heck, it doesn’t even have aftertouch. I cannot afford both this Pa5X AND the (hopefully coming) new replacement for my aging Kronos, and my impatience makes it difficult to wait for the 2023 NAMM in hopes that a new flagship Korg workstation is introduced.
So, that’s the conundrum. Buy the cool Pa5X now, or wait a year to see what’s ahead. And no, I’m not interested in anything from Yamaha, Nord, Behringer, Arturia nor Kurzweil

By all means try the rest but buy the best! The Yamaha Genos is four years old and has that annoying static screen, however it’s the sounds that matters. Listen to comparisons between the Genos and the PA5x. Sorry no comparison. Every instrument on the Korg is inferior. Long live Genos!
