Went on a pilgrimage to British Grove Studios one Saturday morning this summer, whilst staying in West London. How great to peer inside Mark’s Magic Kingdom, where he’s never had a bad day and the soundtrack to my life is born🙏
As I mentioned before, I'm in love with Mark's music. It's is in my heart. Your guitar isn't playing. It's talking like a live person. Wow. My favorite of all is the Telegraph Road and Speedway to Nazareth. May God bless you, Mark.
It is so pleasant to see Mark shares my passions in so many things, and he has the means to to take them to extremes and share them through the filter of his wonderful music.
as a young lad with his own home studio in the making, this i making me drool. absolutely fantastic, vintage gear. Chuck Ainlay is an amazing producer as well. he produced Dire Straits too, so he's been around for a while :D
What's amazing is the absolute passion Mark and the crew have for recording, in spite of the fact that most people are going to listen to an MP3 version of the songs, through their iPhones, on a cheap set of buds.
My first ever album...tape :) was 'Dire Straits'.Memories. A Saturday outing to Spanish City, the funfair at Whitley Bay, me and my sisters taken out for the afternoon by my father...a very 'proper' gentleman, quietly disgusted because the 'Wolf Man', caged, and probably bored sick by then of growling at everyone who went into his tent, had asked his daughter for a snog. Same as it ever was, Mark Knopfler was and is a musical constant, a troubadour of visionary stature.
The 5.1 remix on the 20th anniversary SACD of Brothers in Arms was done in British Grove by Chuck Ainlay and Mark Knopfler. It is stupendous. I own three copies, two unopened. I bought the extras after I heard it on my BlueSky 5.1 system. If you want to know what all the fuss is about regarding SACD and 5.1, this is the benchmark.
Chuck Ainlay: Beatles this, Beatles that . . . George Harrison: "Without The Shadows there where no Beatles". The REDD-console with Malcolm Addey behind it has far more influence on music compared to The Beatles/mr Martin. In many things Addey and The Shads where ahead of The Beatles in studio techniques like using a studio monitor instead of the bass amp (1961) was later on copied by George Martin for McCartney's bass sound. Also combining orchestra, using effect and tone/volume pedals even on bass guitar, the list goes on . . .

Beautiful. What a great set up. Really enjoyed that. Thanks.
I love that they use nuendo. God, that studio is amazing. I would be happy as a clam to be able to play around in there. That gear is super bad ass.
They are a miracle.
amazing to see how much processing takes place
Excellent vlog... love watching the 'behind the scenes'. Thanks for that. 👍
Its great how these old units are the only thing they had back in the day, and now artists use them as an effects unit.

Didn't realise until the end this is Mark's own actual studio. Fucken... I wish I'd written Sultans of Swing.

I wonder how much time they spend chasing down phantom noises. Or, if they ever come across a piece of equipment in the room that isn't hooked up. ;-)
Why is it called get lucky?
