Detroit is just a place like never had been before and maybe never will be. You would go to church and the lady singing is home like you. And her name is Aretha. Aretha Franklin. Only in USA.
@ 3:11 seconds.. we can her Rev. Jasper Williams, Jr. preaching there.. wow.. that should've been on the album... and Aretha backing him on piano.. alright!
@@orawhorton8778 what did I say that was critical? I didn't say anything bad in this statement that you responding to sweetie. I said that she did an excellent job and I like one Lord One Faith one baptism better than I like amazing grace.
THIS is when I loved her voice the MOST. She has HEFT AND HEART. She just seems like she has no soul though. She seems like a blank canvas. She seems like a battered woman. She had a shield up like no other.
I apologize, I want to say it like CLEOPATRA Jones says it. "she sits there FLAT,umless it's a man". my interpretation may be off,and if so I apologize to you Ms. Jones. But I still get the same interpretation that I commented on. And I do truly hope I am wrong Ms. Jones. God bless you.
Loveee the HEFT In her voice here, just wish she would have BROUGHT it home like Patti would have. I like her voice here better than Pattis but even singing gospel, she STILL tries to be in CONTROL and NOT let loose. She shows NO EMOTION here during this song. I am NOT a Patti fan but I DO like that Patti, Beyonce and Fantasia KNOCKS YOUR SOCKS OFF when they hit the stage. i just wish Aretha had done that. She still looks too stubborn to even let the HOLY GHOST get a hold to her singing that song. She just always seems unhappy, even when someone is paying homage to her in a tribute, she STILL just sits there FLAT, umlesss its a MAN.
I think you mistake "theatrics" for emotion. Aretha is not that type of singer who's going to get up and start dancing. That's not who she is. Never really has been. The difference between the ones you mentioned and Aretha is that Aretha is a musician. She plays piano and she doesn't need always to whoop and holler to express an emotion. Doesn't mean she hasn't in the past but you have to understand that this was the period where her voice was lower from all the smoking she had done. That, and perhaps she was still reeling from her father's death? Singing high and singing loud doesn't necessarily equate to singing with soul. Gladys would be another one like Aretha. They are chill. Same with Chaka, although Chaka does have the range and power. You may see Aretha every now and then give more energy but as a rule of thumb, she's never going to perform like those others. If her voice alone don't move ya, then it may be a disappointment for many.
Prof 32 I agree. The Holy Spirit manifests in many ways - including utter silence and stillness. Just because people dance and whoop and holler doesn't mean it's motivated by Spirit. Sometimes the motivation is ego (Edging God Out). This clip is from the recording of her "One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism" circa 1987, 1988. Unlike the "Amazing Grace" album where her focus was just on the music and singing with production done by Jerry Wexler, Tom Dowd and Arif Mardin, she produced "One Lord..." by herself. Maybe being the artist and all the responsibilities of production i.e., rehearsing, sound levels, acoustics of the church, lighting, staging for the choir, PR and media coverage, photography for the event and album cover, managing the contributions of the other artists, timing, reviewing playback after the sessions and directing the creative/spiritual flow of the performances resulted in not being sufficiently focused and rested in order to just sing. Cleopatra Jones, things are not always what they appear to be. There's often more than meets the eye. The Holy Spirit can be present and active without being seen by anyone. It doesn't have to show up and meet our expectations. What's important is being aware of the spirit we express when we talk to and about one another - whether face to face or online.
I'm a professional ALSO. Being famous doesn't make you more of a professional sweetheart, so your point was MOOT. Like you put me in my place, PLEASE HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA. Aretha is even stubborn in church. You know it and you ALL know it.
Quoting her Father, Reverend C.L. Franklin from Amazing Grace, "Aretha is just a stone singer!" Facts indeed!!!
Aretha deserves all her praise. Every last bit of it.
Every last bit. She earned it in SPADES! She worked hard her whole career and just kept GROWING!

Sho nuff!

@ 3:11 seconds.. we can her Rev. Jasper Williams, Jr. preaching there.. wow.. that should've been on the album... and Aretha backing him on piano.. alright!
That was her brother Cecil..Jasper didn't preach but he gave remarks and started off The song higher ground
HarlydarvySenior @3:11 Sounds like Reverend Robert Smith Jr. Singing❤
@@jonesjasmyn3128 that is definitely Jasper Williams. His voice is distinct.
I was just talking about the similarities in their voices i know it's not my Reverend Smith.
@@jonesjasmyn3128 I actually think it was Jasper Williams closing his sermon out and then Cecil Franklin speaking afterwards. I hear both of them now.
Excellent! I rather see this than Amazing Grace.
Stop hating on Aretha Louise Franklin,Cleo ,you is just a hater,go redeem your self so you can make it to Heaven!!!

She sung the FOOL out of God Specializes!!! She produced this album. I wonder why she decided not to use it!
Yes! It still saddens me that she didn't put it on the album. Idk maybe there was some clearance issues.
@@anjelheaven Yeah in the 80s it very well could have been. I'm sure that mugg is Public Domain by now though. I'mma record it now 😂
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Where can I get the video to this please any information would be great
Yes Lord
Where is the full version of this?
Is that Thomas Whitfield standing behind Aretha on the right?
Yes he helped produce the Album! It went number 1 and won a her a Grammy 🔥💯🙌🏾
They didn'tput Godspecialis on the album
I know! I'm so annoyed that it's not on there. One of the best vocals of this era!

No your interpretation was correct there could be no other interpretation and C.J don't deserve every rebuttal coming her way.
