I did Sand Island to Clay Hills 2019 9 days, if I remember correctly. Great River,, cannot praise it too highly. I also used a canoe, love canoes. I would not recommend a canoe, for the next stretch of the river, Mexican Hat to Clay Hills.
Fyi. Corn was not brought here. Its native! Europeans took corn from here to Europe. As well it was the first grain that was engineered. By the indians I might ad. Always thought that was cool.
Please wear your PFD. The permit requires it but it’s also just common sense you get knocked out hit your head on a rock and it’s all over. I live in Flagstaff and get up there often and have canoed it many times I’m glad you were able to experience it as well.
Love it. Very informative. This guy reminds me of my dad.
Thanks, Ill be putting that trip on my bucket list!

Thank you Sean!
Great video thanks for posting. Can one portage the bigger rapids?
Some of them, not all.
What does a trip like that cost? Or can one do it on their own?
We did it all on our own, the permits are like $25.00 per person, that, food and gas money was all it takes.
ABout far far is it (miles) From Sand Island to Mexican Hat. Can you do this in a day ?
27 miles, 2 days min.
