If you have a bread maker, the dough is super easy to make. Only problem is you have to start making it before you get the craving otherwise it'll take a while
2.25 tsp active dry yeast. 1 tbsp sugar. 1 cup warm water. 2.5-3.25 cups flour. 2 tbsp olive oil. 1 tsp salt. Dissolve yeast and sugar in the warm water until frothy, a couple minutes. add rest of ingredients, mix until soft dough, like 5 minutes. Roll into ball (or balls for thinner crusts) let rest for 3-5 minutes. Roll out. Add toppings. Bake for 8 minutes. Takes like half an hour. On a busy night it’s faster than delivery
You don't need a breadmaker. Alls you gotsta do is mix water + yeast + sugar sat for 10 mins with flour, oil, and salt with your hands (whilst eating a bunch of it and spoiling your dinner) and let it sit for an hour

We make pretty decent homemade, it all depends on your ingredients. You pay about what you'd pay for a takeout, but point is to keep kids busy awhile. You gotta have a pizza oven specifically or you can't expect much better than a grocery store pizza. Also, Domino's isn't that bad, I could name you places that are a mystery how they stay in business
My dad makes good home made with a regular oven, but its taken him dozens of times to get everything just the way he likes it. A lot of little adjustments were involved

Sometimes I have them and it's almost like the 90's again, their buffet back when and Sicilian style is one of my better teenage memories. Most other time's it's bland as anything. I like Jets, but I can only get them when I'm up in Jacksonville. Marco's isn't bad, the other chains, it's really hit and miss. You either have to find one of the smaller chains or a single location
i’ve had a few nights like this with my family and it was always fun. after the first night we decided to each pick an ingredient or two that we wanted to be available, so then we had to kind of mix our own tastes by using the ingredients somebody else chose. always ended up good anyway since there was no requirement to use somebody else’s topping, so people chose what they genuinely enjoyed.

The issue is the oven. You can get the best pizza dough you can, but if it's not being baked appropriately, which is extremely hard to do with a standard oven, you get mediocre pizza. I suffered through that for years because my brother liked it. It's not even like I'm being that particular, literally any of the pizza chains do a better job than what you can get out of a standard oven without being very specific in how you bake it.

Nobody is too old to have make your own family pizza night. For god sakes my husband and I do stuff like this with our parents when we visit them. My husband and I are in our 30’s and our parents ( my mom, and his dad ) are in their 50’s. It’s a fun family activity. You are just a stick in the mud.

Interesting story, during the Covid Pandemic, my family and I were on lockdown in New Jersey and we couldn’t do take out because my dad thinks that we could get infected if we make contact with any delivery guy we face (Chinese, Greek, Burgers, Sushi or Pizza). One night, my dad decided to use the Green Egg in our back yard to make the pizza. He was trying to replicate the same Italian pizza we had from an Italian restaurant called Sanigidos. We tried it and it was terrible because my dad basically used the organic stuff instead of what my Aunt in Rhode Island used to make pizza during summer break.
I've never had acceptable pizza made like that at home. The only acceptable ones I've ever had were the result of take and bake and then being baked on cast iron. I'm sorry, but I like my crust a little crispy and for the top not to be burned and that's incredibly hard to do at home.
Least she got big crusts. We don’t do it regularly but when we do we get small pizza crusts. It’s honestly kinda nice though, making your own pizza and not having to have people be upset with your preferred toppings.

i can tell you right now, if youve never baked before dont do this, specially with more than 2 people in the kitchen, it gets crowded, hot and annoying specially since you usually cant fit multiple pizzas in one oven

Lois is a rookie. You don’t bring out those sorts of ingredients for making your own pizza, you splurge and get the stuff most places don’t offer. More expensive cheeses, prosciutto, fresh steamed artichoke hearts, etc. And I beg to differ on the slogan ending, Domino’s may have mass-market pizza appeal like Burger King/McDonalds do for burgers, but they’re still better in quality and ingredient-selection than Papa John’s and especially Pizza Hut.
I remember Caillou always being on when I was a kid, so whenever I made pizzas with my mom carrots and broccoli were options because that was something in one of their episodes. I’m in a better place now. I don’t watch Caillou, but I still think broccoli on pizza is good.

Least she got big crusts. We don’t do it regularly but when we do we get small pizza crusts. It’s honestly kinda nice though, making your own pizza and not having to have people be upset with your preferred toppings.

I make my own pizza with a pizza stone, and it’s much better and cheap than Domino’s.
People who can afford to buy and eat Costco sized quantities of processed food can afford normal quantities of real food.

Make your own pizza only works when there's actual toppings. Sauce, cheese, pepperoni/sausage. Olives, peppers, and most certainly not pineapple are toppings that will never touch my pizza.

I make pizzas from scratch with my kids sometimes. It's really fun and it tastes better than domino's for sure
i can tell you right now, if youve never baked before dont do this, specially with more than 2 people in the kitchen, it gets crowded, hot and annoying specially since you usually cant fit multiple pizzas in one oven

Lois is a rookie. You don’t bring out those sorts of ingredients for making your own pizza, you splurge and get the stuff most places don’t offer. More expensive cheeses, prosciutto, fresh steamed artichoke hearts, etc. And I beg to differ on the slogan ending, Domino’s may have mass-market pizza appeal like Burger King/McDonalds do for burgers, but they’re still better in quality and ingredient-selection than Papa John’s and especially Pizza Hut.
