    Catching crabs
The simplest way to catch crabs is with a dip net. Another easy method is to drop a fishing line with bait at the end. Simply wait for a tug then pull the crab in, catching it in a net. The only downside with the line method is that you can only catch one crab at a time.
Crab traps are wire cages attached to a long rope that are lowered to the bottom of a body of water. Depending on your preference - and budget - there are many different types that can be used effectively, including crab rings, pyramid traps, standard square style and more. With any of these, you’ll secure the bait inside with line, wire or a clip, which will attract the crab to walk into the trap. Once you set your trap, you just sit back and wait.
When you bring up the trap, you’ll want a net or bucket to contain the crab and keep them from scurrying away. You may also want to get a pair of crabbing gloves to avoid getting pinched.
The mud crab species commonly found in the Philippines are the Scylla serrata, Scylla olivacea, and Scylla transquebarica. Studies have already shown that the Scylla serrata or locally known as Bulik is the faster-growing breed, and they are the only species that can grow bigger than 1 kg.
Alimango is a common name for large species of crab. It is definitely larger than the Alimasag. It's the large fat legs that easily distinguish the alimango from the alimasag. The mud crab, mangrove crab or black crab known to English speakers can be translated as alimango in Tagalog.
A fishing net is a net used for fishing. Nets are devices made from fibers woven in a grid-like structure. Some fishing nets are also called fish traps, for example fyke nets. Fishing nets are usually meshes formed by knotting a relatively thin thread. A fish trap is a trap used for fishing. Fish traps include fishing weirs, lobster traps, and some fishing nets such as fyke nets. Traditional fish traps. Stationary traps, or pots, typically made from wood, wire netting or plastic, are used to catch crustaceans such as lobsters and crabs. Though the size and shape of traps may vary, all feature a cone-shaped entrance tunnel through which a crab or lobster is enticed with bait, but cannot escape through.
