  • A small view into my KISS Sidewinder MOD 2 60m course courtesy of video from Mikko Paasi. We're missing the 60m footage from Kaan Luum Lagoon but this will give you an idea.
An incredibly challenging course and hugely satisfying to learn so much. I can't thank Patrick Widmann enough for sharing his immense knowledge and skillset with me. Thanks to Mikko too for the support, video footage and making everyday fun 🙂!!

Thank you very much. I am going to Protec in April for a SW MOD2 course and didn't know what to expect with all the different SW configuration. At least now I can be a little more prepared. Thanks to you

Cheers Simon, there is so much more than I could show here. Check out Episode #82 of the Speaking Sidemount Podcast where I catch up with Jake Bulman at Protec and we discuss the Sidewinder MOD 2 course as well as Sidewinder Cave CCR. The episode will be out early for supporters of the podcast via Patreon around Jan 20 and publicly a little later.

@Sidemount Pros My class will be with Jake, I'll be looking forward to this episode more than usual.
I've been following the podcast since the beginning and learned a lot. I hope this will continue and that you will continue to meet great divers.
      Thanks again

Nice training video. I just got a question: How do you feel on the “timeout” drill -> getting out of the loop temporarily to sort out a problem (high / low PPO2)? This is a method only thought by Patrick, as opposed to the rest of Kiss instructors who teach to stay on the loop while sorting out the issue. Cheers!

Hey sorry for the slow reply. In short, I like the idea of getting off the loop and taking a "time-out" to get your head straight and then act... a bit like the "Stop, Breathe, Think, Act" that we are taught way back in Open Water class. In reality, the decision to stay on or go off the loop will be driven by the type and degree of the issue. A decent flood, caustic, hypercapnia symptoms, or a computer failure and you have no option. Internal Boom you stay on the loop. A little high or low PPO2 for e.g. can be solved with a Dil flush. But with a large delta, especially on low PPO2, you may be only moments from disaster, and as we know, hypoxia has no warning. One other note is I must have bailed out some multiple of 10s over the course of the Mod 2 and Cave CCR. When it came time to bail out for real two dives later it was soooo smooth and easy. I am going to discipline myself to bail out every dive going forward to maintain the muscle memory of what is quite a simple process. Thanks for watching :)
