I had three trucks with 318 DD in them. They were good engines. I always loved the sound of them when loaded and working the gears on a grade. I am currently restoring a 1982 GMC 5 star General with a 8V92 Silver DD. My brother asked me a while back what I was going to do with the truck. I said I am restoring it now, but I like to just start it up and run it down the road to listen to it whine. Last of the screaming Detroits, got to love'm
Looks strong and sounds great. The Ford Louisville line is the very essence of 1970's and 1980s blue-collar trucking. I know this from personal experience - I logged over a half-million intra- and interstate miles in them as a member of Teamsters' Local 120.
to me the mack growl is the best...BUT..the scream of a detroit diesel.is nothing to be ignored...WHAT A BEAUTIFUL MOTOR..the leak was DD achilles back in the day-with MACK is was the vibration- WTF- who's fussy when you have badasses like mack MP OR MAXIDYNE AND THE 318 8v71 DD+ 2 baddest dogs in the junkyard- my old hillbilly friends would always tell me.tales of the road when I was in the diner with momma and pops as an 6 yr old. One thing always stood out- while not the most powerful mack was definitely the STRONGEST and lasted forever- it would shake your molars out.if. not maintained which was a word never synonymous with MACK owners- DETROIT DIESEL had hella torque but "leaked a lake" (in hillbilly, lol) BUT the most comfortable cab EVER was the FORD LOUISVILLE 9000...and pretty as shit too!
Chris good to she the Ford DD back.Man u giving her hell!!!She can take it im sure.Is it a 10 speed?U were damn sure putting them right in place.Later, and thanks!
We use one as a pull out truck in the woods. Riding bobtail that sob will beat you to death and with an empty trailer if it's got 90000 pounds on it rides fine
You're never gonna hear that diesel engine in today's semi trucks and buses because of technology and cheap labor and quantity the Detroit Diesel Series 60 is the last of the great Detroit Diesel engines mostly Cummins and Caterpillar engines Volvo D13 engines now and days
Good ole American truck. A relic of its time. Great sounding screaming detroit. I miss the trucks while growing up in NJ during the 80s.

I drove many a mile back in the 70s in a Louisville w a 318 and 13 speed. It's a sweet sound.
Daddy built those Louisville's all through the 70s at Kentucky Truck Plant. Ford made a damn good semi.

Awesome! It would sound a little bit better with bigger stacks. It seems like these ones are putting too much back pressure on it. Still, It's Sweet!
