As a nurse for over 30 years I actually was very honest with my patients
Yeah. I am honest too. The people are less angry, when you tell the truth
Thank you, I love the honest ones more than anything, I don't even care if you're blunt or abrupt about it, I just want it straight ❤️
I’m in nursing school and I still tell my patients the honest truth, I would want to know! I wouldn’t want the pretty answers, just tell me exactly what’s going on and I will understand!
There is an ethical principle where we have to practice fidelity, telling the patients the truth. I'm honest with the patient, but I try to be polite about it.
Thank you 🥹 stuff like this makes it even harder for me to go to the doctors, I have bad medical anxiety from traumatic stuff that's happened at hospitals
When they not only don't call back but also give you the wrong number to call
Yep! As a scheduler I would recommend you call your Primary Care Dr yourself and schedule in the time frame the ER wanted you to go. 😂(Er f/u in 3-6 days with primary or Cardio etc…)

@staceyga1 Ha they won't schedule you in the needed time frame. I needed stitches checked for infection. They gave me a month out.
Been there, done that

😂😂😂 So me!
True, I might pay bills online or start reading, if I have a long wait. I don't bother to crack the book, if it's less than a half hour wait. It annoys me to get started reading, to be interrupted quickly. I'm a nerd woman. 😂

When you go in, expect all these things to be true and then you have less worry and you won't be disappointed, right? Because you already know it won't be fun. What's the worst that can happen? You get a really mean nurse? Even if that happens, you're allowed to tell the front desk you want a new nurse. They might make you wait, but you're not a prisoner.

If you tell your patients that you'll call to follow up but don't, that's sh¡tty. Periodt. Their health problem could turn into something really bad. Instead, have them schedule the follow-up appointment before they leave. That's how most doctors offices operate. Good ones, anyway. Remember everyone, ADVOCATE FOR YOURSELF! No one cares about your health more than you.
Yes. After new pros settle in, they don't care about you personally. You become "a hip," a knee," the stroke," etc.
Almost all cases it’s because they’ve simply forgotten. Nurses and doctors in the ER can see hundreds of patients a day on their shift, and they’re not going to always remember which patient needs a follow up, especially if a sudden emergency happens that needs attention.
Everyone knows how overworked hospital staff are, as patients we could be more understanding of these things. It’s not going to inconvenience us too much to schedule the appointment ourselves instead of complaining that the staff didn’t remember for you.
@@Lena-zn4re While I realize healthcare workers are overworked (trust me, I have family members in medicine), there's no reason why they can't make a note to follow up with the patient or at least remind the patient to follow up. There's no excuse not to have a reliable system. Case in point, in 2014 I got an MRI for facial pain, at the request of my neurologist. They never called me back for the results, so I called them. His office assistant assured me everything was fine. Five years later, I have a debilitating bout of vertigo, which I thought was odd, as I also had one in 2013. My new doctors recommended another MRI, which showed I have MS. Even worse than getting that diagnosis was finding out I had it for at least a decade. "But my 2014 MRI came back normal," I stammered to my neurologist. She looked in the online system and found my earlier MRI results. "The radiologist report says you had it then," she said. Five years. For five years I was in the dark. For five years I didn't have treatment because my previous neurologist didn't take my symptoms seriously (even though I told him my grandma had MS). For five years my MS progressed and wrecked more havoc on my brain, because his office was disorganized. I realize people make mistakes, but that's even more of a reason to have a better system for keeping patients informed. Their patients' health and lives depend on it.
@@Lena-zn4re and how do you know the staff forgot to do their job? By realizing that nothing happened after MONTHS. It's not hard to schedule follow up appointments right away, that way the nurses have it out of their hair and can focus on the hard parts of their job.
But not every patient knows that they need a follow up appointment, which is why it's not their job. And sorry, but I'm not going to do a job I'm 1.not getting paid for, 2.never going to choose in the first place for obvious reasons

The biggest thing I learned having 3 nurses in the family is that they have seen all the body parts, they see them so often its like seeing your hand, if there's something wrong like an injury, THAT is their focus, not judging your anatomy. They might be a little more surprised to see something truly unusual, but their focus is always on getting you safe and comfortable asap. There's only so many things you can see up someone's rectum before its just another Tuesday.
I love this... I was in health care, and this is so true... I switched to the drugs people needed. More fun, body parts get bleak or too. "These are normal don't worry I've seen these anal-pustules of oozing green festering pulsating orbs, " "Oh the cause? Well, that's not my scope of practice, I need to let the Dr. explain that."😊... close the door...😮😮😮😮
Exactly, there's a couple of embarrassing stories I remember but there's no way I could ever tell you who those people were and what they looked like.
The end caught me off guard😂😂
Ummm, yeah. Having "seen it all" before is why Playboy, Penthouse, and all p**n producers have gone out of business because most people have "seen it all" before.
That last sentence right there is it. I probably have seen it, I don't care and I will reassure you it's nothing to be embarrassed about. Until it comes to your rectum and you are in the ED for the 3-4 time with something unique up there. Maybe a little embarrassment would be in order. Especially if it was the kind that would get you to stop before you perforated you intestines and need major surgery. (And yes that does happen)

From an ACTUAL NURSE:
1. honestly- this actually DOES happen to everyone and we don't care.
2. The doctor is busy and we have no control over their presence. Take it up with them
3. We also have no control over follow up appointments, if its forgotten it's a clerical error and not the nurses.
Long story short - we have very little actual control over outcomes but we're always expected to

@@debitopia hahaha WOW. I think you need to check yourself. You've apparently not really understood my comment at all and you REALLY don't understand healthcare or what a nurses role actually is.
1.When I say "we don't care" it not in the context of "not caring for your patient" it's in the context of "we're not going to judge you".
2. We aren't lying. We just have no control over them (guess you have trouble with reading comprehension?). We also expect the doctors to arrive in a few minutes, but do they? Not always. Of course we update our patients if this is the case, I never said we didn't. It sounds like you have a really poor concept of how the flow of healthcare works and how overworked most healthcare workers are. None of us are INTENTIONALLY making anyone wait. If tending to one person makes you 10 minutes late to see another, then thats just how the cookie crumbles. You can't blame staff for being late and then complain they need to care for "the entire patient" in the same breath without acknowledging there's other people that need care besides you.
3. Appointments are absolutely a clerical issue in most cases. This is highly dependent on where you work. In my case, in a large tertiary hospital, the nurses don't make the appointments. I have no access to the programs that schedule them. If I had any control over it or was able to influence it to benefit my patients of course I would.
As for your LPN comment. Firstly. My bachelors in nursing degree and 15 years nursing experience would argue otherwise. Secondly, the fact that you think LPNs are just "ass-wipers" shows a level of ignorance that absolutely astounds me. I bet you're the type of person who thinks fast food workers are somehow "beneath you". LPNs are incredibly hardworking and I'm certain their work makes more of a difference than whatever it is you do.
Have I dumbed it down enough for you? If not, let me know. I'm always happy to educate closed-minded people who obviously have no clue about the healthcare system.

Yeah, please don’t be embarrassed, they’ve probably seen a person at your stage or worse 100s of times before. And if it is a bad case, healthcare professionals aren’t embarrassed for you or embarrassed about you, it elicits more sympathy than anything else. Then for us to remember you, you have to be like the most extreme case of all time, otherwise you disappear into the sea of 1000s-10,000s of patients they’ve seen in their career. The only time you ever need to feel embarrassed in front of nurses is if you did something beyond exceptionally stupid, like eating a tide pod because it looked tasty despite having a functioning brain. The reason I avoid hospitals like the plague!! I've only gone once in 7 months, last year it was just twice.
I've not been since 2019
“You might feel slight discomfort” = “this is gonna hurt like a bitch=
The doctor will be with you in 1 - 3 business days
i feel a lot better. thanks steve
lol i mean the dont be embarassed one could be true too. they do see alotta shit.
Half is from the prescribed meds
It is true, he is a controversial comedian, not a nurse. Nurses are not embarrassed of you or embarrassed for you
They do see a lot of shit, literally.
Bruh. I work in the ED if you think we care you’re too ambitious. You need to WORK to make us raise an eyebrow.
90% of your “embarrassing problems” are not even fit for a break room discussion
"Are you embarrassed?" oh no, do me a favor and do NOT tell me that. I need to be able to seek medical attention without getting PTSD 😂
"You're going to need stitches but don't worry it won't hurt"
"this will hurt like hell so just suck it up"
me going to the doctors tomorrow: 😭✌️ wish me luck-
"Are you embarrassed?" Yes, I am actually, now I feel worse 😆
Don’t worry most nurses don’t think like that, this guy’s just weak
@@Justyouraveragechaosenjoyer yes absolutely! I would never want my patients to feel embarassed 😥 thats the last thing you want from someone helping you when you feel vulnerable and need Help.
Don't be. I've been a nurse over 25 yrs and this guy doesn't know what he's talking about. He's just trying to be a comedian on UA-cam. Bear in mind we can't control the doctors and what they do. We have to deal with them as well.
@@Justyouraveragechaosenjoyerkeep copeing but the definitely all judged tf outta you when you came in needing rectal foreign body removal 😂
@@Unpredictable21- okay now *that’s* different because they could have controlled that lol
Thanks for making people feel better about themselves if I wasn’t insecure before I definitely am now 😊
Thanks alot for instilling confidence 😂
"The Doctor will be here in just a few minutes" said no nurse ever, especially if the patient is asking.
4 months now and I'm still waiting on that call to schedule a follow-up 😭😭
Please call an remind them or make an appointment for yourself.
Just call them and schedule the appointment
Well now it's been 5 months, did they ever call?
yup, it's bullshit, its there job to make follow up appointments to monitor your progress but do they ever fuck, they dont care about patients
Depands on the hospital and what it's for. Sometimes I get told to call them up and other times, they do it for me as they know I don't like making the appointment and I have so many appointments
I like the model where they set up your follow up at your current appointment. So much more efficient.
I always set yp my followup. Oh i dont need a pap for another three years? Lets get it in the books today thanks!
You forgot when they still charge you for the appointment you never scheduled
I waited 6-7 hours in the emergency room
"You might feel a little pressure" translates to "this will probably hurt like hell" 😅
Im still waiting for the blood work order they said they will mail me from last month.
i think the blood is dry
I actually promise to call n I definitely forget..too. will remember when I see the pt ..still haven't studied the results too.. forgive us pls our pts..😅
@lotstodo Idk man that one may be because of the snail mail
@@ingridmonica1126 no, i wont forgive you for not doing your job. set reminders.
@@breanda Granted..it's also ur duty to call to ask for ur results..I don't call because I have lots of pts and also some don't evn answer their fones. Normal tests take less than 24hrs except culture tests and viral loads. So in three days come get ur results....it's ur responsibility. In our country we don't mail results too..
This wont help the collective anxiety people have of doctor appointments
This perfectly sums up why i would trust a literal crackhead before i trust a doctor.
The fact that had surgery and the nurse was careful and honest really made things easier. So she told me that my doctor would arribes in one to two hours to remove my surgical drains. They were all honest with recovery and advice.
Thanks, I needed that. Seriously.
I’m more honest to my doctor then I am to my therapist
That last one is really fun when they say they'll get back to you for a followup on your adhd appointment and then dont and now it's been a month and we have no news and have difficulty initiating the followup
My mother is a nurse I occasionally would send her these either she would laugh or nod in agreement
Does she like being a nurse? I imagine it gets stressful.
@@blueseptember2174 oh she complains about it daily but she still does it
@@blueseptember2174 but it’s helpful to have her around since she can treat small-mid injuries no problem and she will know what to do if me or any of my siblings or dad was sick
@goblinthief8958 They got to rant sometimes. 😅
I'm one of those people who doesn't like to complain about MY decisions, but my mum and sisters do to get it out of their system. I listen and nod.
I goet exhausted thinking about issues I can't fix and I don't tell others if I know they're busy, have their own or maybe can't fix it
I just use their complaining to help me identify similar issues and possible solutions for mine 🤭🫡
Besides, I do love some gossip 🤷🏾♀️ it's like Canon when they update me.... the lore expands. New characters, etc... ❤
I just don't understand the last one. I'm too autistic for this shit just tell me to call to schedule wtfff 😭
Way to confirm all my fears 😂
"Give or take 1-3 hours"
As in.. the Doctor may have already been here 3 hrs ago and told no one that we're waiting now for nothing..
The 2 and 3 one got me on the floor😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
