- I have a NEW tutorial for the twist and pop mechanism that's even easier than the technique I show here. To view it on my channel, visit: • Twist and Pop Tutorial...
There's nothing more fun than opening a twist and pop card. But until now, making them has required an engineering degree. I've greatly simplified the process and enlarged the basic design. I'll show you how quick and easy (and less bulky) this pop up mechanism is and then guide you step by step through the creation process. We'll take a video tour of a fun winter card made with Tammy Tutterow Designs Stamps and Dies. Then we'll make a Twist and Pop card "from scratch" using Authentique's delightfully wintry Alpine collection. Are you ready to get your craft on?
I have seen this card but just could not get in my head how to make all of the folds. I understand how you used the card to make the score line in the middle. Actually, these instructions give you infinite sizes to make the card. My card is very rough looking, but I did make the folds and it pops out !!!!!! Yea. thank you for such simple instructions. I subscribed to your post.
Hello, Martha! This makes me sooo happy! Thanks for letting me know that you had a successful attempt at making this fun fold card! I did a second tutorial where I simplified the instructions even more. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/JsaLbFQ5axY/v-deo.html Happy crafting!
Hi Kathy, I live in France and love crafting. This morning, your channel was suggested to me and I have been binge watching for hours. I am subscribed to more than 70 channels but I have never been as impressed with anyone as I am with you. Bravo and keep making such beautiful cards (especially) for all of us. You are a wonderful artist.

Hello, Lynne! Wow, what a treat to have you stop by my blog! Isn't the internet amazing? Glad you enjoyed this tutorial! Hugs from North Carolina!
Awesome card. I didn’t get to use this paper collection before Christmas but the great thing is that it’s still winter. I’ll definitely be making one of these cards after Christmas. Merry Christmas Kathy. 🎄🎁🎅🏼❄️⛄️
Yes! This is the perfect winter collection, Cecilia! I hope you have fun making all kinds of pretty winter cards with it! Thanks for the lovely comment! Happy New Year!
Great
Thank you! It really simplifies the process!
Just awesome!, Thank you for sharing!,
You are so very welcome! Have fun with it!
Great card. I love the size. I was using the Lori Whitlock SVG file to make pop and twist cards, but it only makes the smaller size. Your tutorial gives us more options. TFS! Happy holidays, Robyn
Thanks, Robyn! I really like a larger size card , especially for the inside. Glad you enjoyed the video. Merry Christmas, my friend!
Thanks for the cute & adorable card video. Simply fell in love with your simple instructions so am your new subscriber now. Shall look forward for your awesome tutorial.😍😍😍
Thank you so much! I have a Twist and Pop Tutorial 2.0 on my channel that makes it even simpler! I think you'll like it. Welcome aboard...looking forward to getting to know you! Happy crafting!
Happy New Year!! ( a few days early). I did watch this video filled with cleverness, awesomeness, and Kathy originality!!! This takes out several steps with a die set I have. I like to make bigger cards too. Love the lamas too. Where did you attach the magnets for the envelopes? I guess one is on the panel so where did the other one go? Somewhere on the envelope? That’s a really good idea. TSMFS 🤗
Kay
Thanks so much Delphia! I'm glad you enjoyed this video! Yes, one magnet is on the panel, covered with a sticker, and the other is on the back of the envelope, also covered with a sticker. I did one with the magnet under the panel and inside the envelope, but decided that was too fussy, so I switched it up! Thanks so much for your great question! Happy New Year!
How adorable. I need to try this for sure. What brand card stock do you uses for the base? I am loving that alpine collection. The colors are so wonderful. Great tutorial..thank you.
Thank you so much, Mary! I'm so glad you enjoyed the tutorial! I use a lot of Recollections cardstock. However, the base for this card happens to be Authentique Paper's Artisan cardstock. I haven't worked with it before, and wow, it is fabulous! Have fun making lots of twist and pop cards! Merry Christmas!
Hi, Kathy Just saw your video I would really like to make this card but I am having a great deal of difficulty also. I wish you would take the time to redo this tutorial again. Please pretty please thanks
Hi, Teresa! I just re-made the mechanism following my own directions and once again, it worked perfectly for me. I think the mistake you might be making is with the fold. You need to create a square corner when you fold the "legs" of the mechanism over the tip of the square cardstock. If I get a chance, I'll make another card with this same design and share again. Keep practicing with printer paper. It really DOES work, and it really IS easy. Thanks for reaching out to me!
Hi, Teresa! Just wanted to let you know that I have created a new tutorial for the mechanism. You can find it on my channel at : ua-cam.com/video/JsaLbFQ5axY/v-deo.html
What is the basic concept of getting the measurements for the mechanism and panel when making this card in different sizes?
You have to figure out the ratio between the length/width of the card base and the mechanism. It takes some mathing and some trial and error to get it right. Good luck!
@@kathyclementkathybydesign I'll keep trying. Thank you.
whats the size of the pop out squares you glued in on each square
Hi, Mist...sorry, I've been out sick and just now found this. This is such an old tutorial that I honestly don't know the answer. I'm usually pretty good about sharing measurements, so hopefully they are tucked away somewhere in the narrative. Wish I could be of more assistance.
i have the same problem as sheilene. at 7:56 when you crease the paper using the chip board you already have it scored ...its the measurments of the triangle score lines that i can't figure out. my suggestion is that if you are going to give instructions on how to is that you don't use a piece of card that you used before that already has score lines on it.
Hi, Carol-Anne. I'm so sorry you had trouble with the folding of the mechanism. Thanks so much for giving me a time marker so I could review the tutorial. You do not have to measure the score lines for the triangle. Those lines occur naturally when you fold the paper in the way I demonstrated in the video. If you score on the short side, then mark the center point on the long side, mark a "cross" where those two lines meet, then place your square corner as I demonstrated, it really should work. I've heard from multiple people who have made the pop up mechanism successfully. Without being able to watch you in your process, I really don't know how to assist you. Maybe give it another try? Thanks so much for reaching out to me with this issue. Happy crafting!
Carol-Anne, I just uploaded a new tutorial for making the mechanism that I think you will like. Here's the link:
ua-cam.com/video/JsaLbFQ5axY/v-deo.html
With the bows, how do you put in the envelop???
I wrap in tissue paper and tie with ribbon, then mail in a bubble mailer!
Fantastic. Now I won’t buy a die. Thank you.
Hooray! I'm so glad you enjoyed this tutorial! Thanks for watching and thanks for the kind comment! Happy crafting!
