Absolutely Brilliant, Nowhere did I see a ruler or a set of plans and nowhere did I see professional tools, just sheer scratch building for the hell of it..
I was tempted to skip to the last video, but didn't dare in case I missed something.
WELL DONE young Sir..
From right out of the basement to pond...very impressive!!!
A great piece of work. I love these build from scratch projects. well done. Need some videos of it with the top on.
Cool! If you plan on putting a "deck" or plywood cover over the open part of the boat you should build in a laptop cooling fan, it keeps the engine cool and gives it lots of air.
NICE carves the water well
i love this boat overall. The craftsmanship you put in to it is incredible! With my experience in Radio Control boating I have noticed that a inline rudder to the prop is more efficient than you setup. I recommend that you install a extended exhaust pipe out the transom of the boat. Your fuel tank is also at too much of a angle, I recommend you add counter balancing weights to the bow of the ship and put the tank more aft.
Great boat!
dual rudder and route the exhaust out and it will run and turn a lot better, all in all though, awesome build :)
Love the boat series! Keep it up!
woo!! NICE JOB i have been watin to see the finished product and it looks really good going in the water
That was awesome! Surprised by the speed of it, very nice work man. :)
dude that is freakin great..awesome job man!!
wow man that is awesome buddy you got mad skills bro
yeah it did really well thanks for inspiring me to make my own cool stuff like this man
it was worth the wait
Wow, not bad! Just rivet some strips of metal to the rudder.
ive been waiting fir you to test it for ever
i think it will stall because it takes in its own axhaust fumes again. when you start it you see the whole engine bay in the smoke. this is also the intake area. a long time ago i owned a real life jetski. it had the same problem. worked fine but under throttle it would stall. turned out that my exhaust had sprung a leak and fumes also came into the engine bay where it sucked in the air for combustion. repaired the leak and it was ok again. it is like you put a plastic back over your head with just a few small holes. when you breath most air is used a few times already and you will be out of breath soon
great project....I like that!
Amazing man keep it up
cant wait. very cool to see it work
Looks pretty good
Sweet man.. She sounds good!!
wow..took forever but worth the wait...cool
Real cool videos, and nicely shot and explained !! This is whats the hobby is about ... ! MAKING SOMETHING OUT OF NOTHING !!
haha so cool, and such a good idea using a weed eater like that, genuius man I might try this!
Hi I'm in exactly the same boat aha ha .....and you beat me to it .i learned shit loads from you,a and look forward to building mine .only il paint it ,a and seal the steering arm it's gotta be waterproof , but well done .cheers Capt PHIL
you should make the fuel tank further back so there is less hose for the fuel to get sucked through because the carb isnt designed to suck fuel through a long hose, this may be why your engine is stalling.
Wrll done u should be proud
I believe this motor came with a clutch. You should have left it on so your boat can stand still and it wouldn't stall all the time. I made one before but in sunk under the river when i tried to race my brother's life sized boat. Lol...overall you did a nice a job building it.
Placing the rudder behind the prop will improve the handling.
good job!
I could, but I want to try a simple rudder mod first, I will probably just use glue to test it out with so that I could always remove it and try what you mentioned. And the carb is tunable, so hopefully I'll be able to get it running better. Thanks for the idea.
sounded like the high jet needed tweaking...pin it adjust high and possibly the low jet to get it to sing at a smooth run..lots of the weed wakers after a few tanks of gas need adjusting for performance...honest..
Canadian Hey? Nice boat and well built I have the same fascination with home built rc things.
That worked pretty good, need to fine tune a couple of bugs. All in all good job, take care.
Local boat pond?? Never heard of such a thing xD. Coolest boat in the pond
impressive!
you remind me of myself except you made an awesome boat, and seem generally more productive.
Awesome!!! c:
very nice
.. Nice boat .. Lupit mo pre ..
I think the boat would be fantastic if you just put the rudder directly after the prop so it can direct the thrust of the prop and have a highly effective rudder
Hey guys... The Rudder is too far over on one side of the boat... the center of mass is not inline with the boat... so if you have a turning problem... just move the rudder to as center mass as possible
Impressive
the exhaust may heat the wood or even burn a hole so maybe changing the direction the exhaust shoots or adding a metal plate to absorb and deflect heat.
cheers! from Australia.
I knew I recognized the pond... I live in the same city haha.
good job when's part 7 coming out
muito bacana cara, vi do inicio ao fim...seu projeto e irado...
Thats greatewt homemade rc boat
Seems to be running rich. Maybe use less oil in the fuel mix too.
I ironically just bought 4 of those servos the other day.
Extend exhaust pipe out back. Mine was doing same thing until I was able to remove fumes.
You should put a second rudder on the other side of the propeller as well to balance and stabilize it, especially that fast
nice build!, some points: weed wackers like high rpm as it s a two stroke, prop might be to big for the engine and bogging it down, i had that problem with my boat, with prop on the left it will like to turn right easyer then left,, bigger pond and open it up, hope it turns out good Forrest
sweet !!
niceeee
Im probably gonna do that too :P
I like that
Cooooool
Maybe fill it with some foam or something?
If it flips or floods it`ll sink :/
On some of my boats, i made a small float of foam, with a string attached to the hull so if it sank I could get the float and pull the boat up..
You should try finishing the top and painting it!!
Interesting concepts... Have you considered a dual rudder one for each side. it could be run off of one servo with a linkage setup between the two?
Did you do a part 8 or finish your boat, cheers norm
what you have made here is a crude rc boat but still something to have fun with i have a 5ft weedeater boat and the thing i found out is one rudder isnt enough add a second still only using one servo all so paint the boat with some king of wood sealer
nice
Hello. ¡Great job¡ I can't see a good image of the propel,.. but the curvature maybe is wrong for the direction of rotation? In the future the propel be covered with a protector? (less danger in operation an protect the propel).
Yes!!!
I love this project but I think you should use a bigger rudder for better staring.
what parts did you need to get in order to control the throttle, and how much did it cost you?
Are you going to make a case/cover for it? and the hull should be plastic covered so the wood doesnt rot.
i made one like this and i am going to try it out today. I hope it works as well as this one does considering i did make it in my basement
gel coat is nothing to do with nothing. because the prop is deep in the water u need a wider rudder ,like u suggested or a turn fin mounted in the keel about 1/4 inch or a spin fin on the transom. something is needed to oppose the rudder to make the boat turn instead of slide. on a big lake the slid would b fun tho. also open up the "H" (hi-speed) jet on the carburator to keep the engin goin at full throttle. nice "project" .looks like u havin way more fun jus doin ya thang than lots of guys with the "pro" set-ups,, including me
6 years now..
Did you finish that thing yet?
Hey my father said that the rudder should be behind the motor to break the water. So if you do that it will help your steering problem
did you ever finish that boat? or has it sunk at the bottom of that boat pond?
You'll need a watercooled engine. Especially if you're going to put a lid over it.
your prop angle is at too steep angle. bring tank back to just behind engine so the front gets up.. richen the engine to let in more fuel.. thousands of people using these little engines in boats.. they go well. need to make a little manifold so exhaust goes out the back or it chokes the engine.
good
just wondering, why didn't you build a top/ deck?
I agree with others that poulan motor are crap, but I couldn't help but wonder if you fuel tank setup...with long fuel lines was part of the problem IE air bubbles in the line. it seemed your idle was too high as well, both causing it to run poor and making it so your prop always turns. Still, nice work thus far. you don't have much $$$ into it but it does work.
hey, Forresttrenaman I was wondering if you could make another vid on the micro t.....I just got a brushless system and don't know the right way to lay it out :/
Is this the boat pond in Victoria?
That looks to be a pretty weak servo for that size boat. It will appear to work OK on dry land, but when you have all the pressure of the water as the boat is moving , the servo will stall out. In addition the push rod between the servo arm and the rudder must be very strong and stiff, or it will bend when you try to turn at high speed. Your rudder will be more effective if it is closer to the center of the transom too. Otherwise nice work. Keep trying !!
you might wanna put a cover on it so you don't get too much water inside
yes,yes,and yes
with the fuel tank tilted up with the fuel lines on top gas cannot get to the engine
I'm building one like this and I don't know how to use the throttle. Like what transmitter reciever. What reciever do u use?
hey. if you have any plans/blueprints for this hull would it be possible to upload them please? cheers
It might not want to run because the fuel line is to long. The carburetor can't pump the fuel fast enough to get through all that fuel line .
The prop is angled down too low and it's pushing the bow of the boat into the water causing it to be slow, you need to somehow flatten the prop more and that will allow the bow to rise and work like a real boat
hi. if you could please also state the names of the glues you used that would be of great help. thanks,
Your gas tank needs to be moved back by the engine and mounted above the carb so it can gravity feed. The way it is in this video it seems like engine would not be able to draw the gas efficiently.
which prop do you use ? good building of you !
Pe Graf hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__13230__2_Blade_Stainless_Steel_Boat_Prop_470_x_1_4_1pc_bag_.html
what radio and rudder are you using?
U need a flex shaft
Need more weight towards the back.
Stalling was caused by not having enough fuel in your tank. Looked like only half a cup or so was in there. As the bow lifts, Your fuel line is sucking air. Give her plenty of flow! Its got a long way to travel to the carby. Wack on an inline filter in the line too. Also you need a breather so the tank doesn't crush if your seals are good. One other thing is, Install some trim tabs and at least one side fin to counter act for the gyro effect the prop makes, Install two would be better as it will give you more of a tight turning circle. The advice in the comments you should take on board by these guys also. ;-)
I gotta say though as someone who worked in the commercial boat building industry as a kid of 16 just as a labor hand, you have so far done an amazing job young man. Please don't give up on it!! You've done a great job thus far - Plenty of people who are here to give you some sound advice by the looks too!. I admire your enthusiasm man... As I said don't quit this project!!! - Take care mate, From an old dude in Western Australia, Midwest Coast 💯👍👍
