    I just bought a 2'x4'x57mm slab of FastCap kaizen foam and made a shadow foam wall to store my gaming PC peripherals when not in use (desk doubles as a baby-changing table!) These are some extra tips I learned along the way:
    -the "plowing" vs "pulling" the cutout material...key technique and also very satisfying feel!
    -for heavier items like that drill you demo, make the cutout even further within the lines (cut an even smaller shape within the tracing lines) so that the foam holds onto it extra tight
    -also for heavier items, Amazon disk magnets tucked into hidden sliver pockets just under the last exposed layer of the cutout are invisible and very grabby
    -I made a "finger hold" melt tool out of a 3/4" copper pipe endcap/ 3/4" to 1/2" reducer/ 1' piece of 1/2" copper pipe. I keep the tool on standby heat via my Wagner heat gun set at 900F while I'm working. Then when I need it, I grab the 1/2" end as a handle (with leather work gloves!) and plunge the 3/4" end into the perimeter of a tool cutout. Instant, super smooth finger hold! So cool how the foam vaporizes perfectly away from the tool.
    -I cut my 2'x4' foam board in half and glued the two layers together to make a 4 1/2" super-thick kaizen board. Some videos use 3M type 73 spray adhesive. My local suppliers only carried type super 77, it worked well.
    -I mounted the board, laden with 15 lbs of stuff, to the wall with a hidden screw technique I devised. Mock the board on the wall, layout for your studs. I used 4x4"x#10 timberlock screws with fender washers. Mark where your screws with go. I used one near each corner of the board. I took an old 1 1/4" x 10" bathroom sink drain extension pipe I had laying around and, with a half-round file, sharpened the inside edge of one end of the pipe. I took the sharpened pipe and centered it on a screw hole location on the board, and pushed/ rotated the pipe down about 1 1/2" deep into the foam. I pulled out, but saved the coupon of foam. 3 more times for the rest of the screw holes. Now I raised the foam to the wall, screwed in firmly, plugged the holes with the coupons , keeping the top of the coupon flush. It's almost invisible and looks factory-made!

      @chriskelvin248 Thank you so much for the tips and tricks. I'll send this info to our marketing team and have them add it to the tips & tricks section of the website for our Kaizen Foam.

    I like the fast motion so much better than watching non-necessary footage at regular speed and also more than cut or fade out and in again. Please continue to do this when appropriate.

    I just complete my new camera case with the Kaizen foam, but I spray mount a top layer of colored felt first to give a real custom two tone look. It would have been great if it came like that to begin with (i.e.: red, blue,yellow,orange first layer the all black or vise versa).

    • @FastCapLLC
      @FastCapLLC  5 років тому

      Very creative! We would have to raise the price to change out the colors. Not sure it is important enough to everyone to make that happen.

      @@FastCapLLC Sure it's important! First, aesthetically it looks better, plus it would have a higher appeal to those that what a better visual reference that a tool or item is missing from their case. If you are the manufacturer, I find it hard to believe that the costs would be so exaggerated just to replace the top layer of foam with a thin colored one. Sounds like an excuse to me.

      @@Bobster986 Kaizen Foam is our number one selling product in the world. Everyone loves it because it's fast and easy and affordable. We could do that. Curious, how much more are you willing to pay for it?

    Great video. Thanks for posting. One question - I bought some from Rockler and it as their own brand - I don't know if its the same as the kaizen. It was nearly impossible to keep it even, it kept tearing out, like there was too much glue. I assume the kaizen doesn't have that problem?

      Even the FastCap foam doesn't leave perfect layers, every single time. Using the "plowing" vs "pulling" technique improves the results. Larger areas of removed foam make it harder to maintain perfection. As he shows, one technique is to over dig your shape, then scavenge a thin layer of factory-smooth top layer of your cutout to glue down to the bottom of the cutout. Alternatively, FastCap sells a fingerhold molding iron that can also be used to smooth out the rough bottom of your cutouts.

      Our distributor in the U.K. Is Rutland (www.rutlands.co.uk/). That would probably be a better shipping cost because it is a lot closer than us.
