As an American born in the USA, we thank you for sharing the vision of freedom and equality we have yet to attain. These are dark times for this nation, with perhaps the greatest enemy we have ever faced being that which comes from within. We the people shall not weaken nor concede. United we stand and united we shall prevail, and we shall not rest until we have truly achieved liberty and justice for ALL. Thank you again for your comments.

So did the 70's. But the 80's ones broke records for the number of people who watched. Roots being one.
And Richard Chamberlain was in a few that got noticed. The John Adams and the Jefferson series were good.
1776 I liked when the school took us to see it but watched it when I was older and just don't like musicals.

Yes. Hollywood did one later TV movie about Washington but it was not nearly as good plus accentuated this great American figure’s flaws and meant to do just that. THIS was a quality production, excellent direction and I thought exquisitely cast. Thank you so much for uploading this!

I'm a former soldier of the US Army (2017-2022). I served to keep the tradition of my family alive which goes back to Colonial America for the US. I didn't care about pay or benefits, I love my country and my countrymen. Seeing this film sets like concrete that Washington is my personal hero along with the men that fought with him during our fight for independence. I only hope my service honored the men of the past and that they would have been proud. I am proud to be an American citizen and deeply give thanks to all of those that fought and died for freedom over the last 250 years.
Edit: Because of my sense of duty to the Constitution and the Republic. I'm please to announce that I am reenlisting into the US Army. I was discharged originally because of the COVID vaccine now that it's not a requirement I can finally return to duty.

I had the honor of being cast as a British soldier in the GW miniseries. This was in the summer of 1983. Although we were considered "extras", the group of guys I was with were trained by the stunt coordinator Jerry Gatlin. We were taught how to dress and act like British soldiers, including: marching in columns, handling and shooting the flintlock muskets, taking simulated bayonet stabs to the gut, and also simulated gunshots to the chest. We adopted the nickname "Gatlin's Raiders". We appeared in many scenes filmed at Fort Belvoir, Mount Vernon, and Gunston Hall, Virginia. Probably the most fun I have ever had that was legal. TR

The story is pretty well written actually. They don't shy away from the fact that our founding fathers were human, made mistakes large and small, lived with all the normal human emotions and had to make tough decisions like we all do. Sometimes, they had to decide between two bad choices, but they did the best they could. They lived in the time given to them. Loved the location shooting too, All the CGI nowadays, I'd forgotten how the location can make the movie, shooting at Mt. Vernon, Williamsburg, Philadelphia and in the Mid-Atlantic outer regions like Jersey, and Valley Forge, seeing all the familiar areas that are distinctively East coast and not Southern California or someplace else that does not look like the region at all. It may cost more and be more "trouble" but the result is worth it. Barry Bostwick as Washington is a good choice. The look is exactly what I would imagine, always the tallest, most distinguished man in the room is the impression Washington gave his peers and Bostwick nails it.

Great production, and devotes time and emotion to the hero of the story. I never saw Washington so 3-dimensional before. His experience in the wilderness among the tribes of Pennsylvania and Ohio and how he met Caleb, who became his scout. He was a red-blooded man. The women in his life include Sally, the wife of his friend. He maintains propriety with her but he loves her.

This great man has always been one of my heroes. Out numbered, out supplied, out gunned in almost every engagement, he held the Continental Army together with his leadership and sheer strength of will. When he singlehandedly prevented his Officers from marching on Philadelphia with the intent of arresting members of Congress then taking over the Government, he established one of the most sacred principles of our Republic - civilian control of the military. He walked away from such an exalted position of power when he literally could have ruled the new America. He inspired me throughout my 31 year career as a professional military officer.

It’s nice it shows his more human side because it showed how much he struggled to be President and be the father of our country. I understand if he’s not for everyone. It’s also nice it shows his views on Slavery and his and Martha’s relationship with them. They really treated like them family especially George’s close aide William Lee. It also shows how he struggled with that as well. It’s also nice that it wasn’t one sided. It’s nice it also shows his chemistry with Native people. Definitely has some heartwarming and tearjerker scenes especially the scene where his daughter dies.

Not being a student of the American Revolution, which should be a required course in High School, IMHO, I was thrilled to see the true story of Benedict Arnold!! I had no idea he was so close to George Washington. Funny that 45 years ago, there were miniseries on George Washington, another excellent miniseries "Backstairs at the WhiteHouse"-(It's a little stiff, but excellent material) compared to the miniseries we have today which all seem to be fantasy and horror themes: Time travel, Zombees, Space exploration, Alien invasions- not that those things are bad, depending on how it's handled and presented, but to entirely forget the best things in the world, to teach about how our democracy was born or the lives of good men and women that sacrificed so much is a sad commentary on the times in which we live.

Viewed this series a year ago and now a second time. One always picks up much more. An excellent series. The French and Indian War is obviously where Washington learned the art of guerilla warfare which served in part to win the American Revolution. That and very much God's providence. Like the unseasonal fog that allowed the Revolutionary Army to retreat at one point in the war without being detected by the British. Washington and his troops had the supreme motivation too--belief in their cause and do or die. And faith in God. Washington read his Bible daily. No doubt David's Psalms were often a great encouragement to fight on, giving God all the glory for victories won and lessons learned too in many battles. Americans can be so proud of their great heritage.

I remember watching this here in the UK during the 1980's, thinking it was magnificent. It still is even today. As someone that loves history, the USA has always been a special interest to me. George Washington's treatment by the British military was nothing short of scandalous. At the time he was loyal to the Crown, and should have been given a command in the regular Army. Writing as a UK citizen I find it very embarrassing. However, we got our just deserts when he lead the Continental Army, and proved what an outstanding commander he was.
