also a wedding includes two people and if she gets her venue and the food he should be allowed to invite everyone he wants to have at his wedding.. if wedding planning only goes according to one person that is something that can cause resentment in the future (just my opinion)

I think Dongin is right about the guests. I personally got married on 2/22/22 at the courthouse with just us two, then had a nice meal at an Italian restaurant with our close family (20 people) that night. A few months later we had a more traditional west African wedding that was relevant to my husband's culture when the weather was nicer in September. For that we had a buffet and about 65 people. It was nice to be intimate on the actual day, but we wrote vows and had more ceremony for the September wedding with everyone there and shared those special words with our community. I like that I got to wear a big white dress for the official marriage, then an African print dress at the ceremony. Both days were amazing in their own way because we were able to process our emotions on the small day with just us, then celebrate later once we got used to being married for a few months and wrote vows. Just my anecdote lol Congratulations to you two!

As an Asian it’s really difficult to just choose close 10 people for the wedding. Like it’s important to invite from both the mother and father side close relatives ( like cousins aunt and uncle )
As a Latina, I agree. I can't really imagine having a wedding without inviting close relatives, which is my grandmother, 3 aunt, 1 uncle and 5 cousins on my mom's side and 1 aunt, 1 uncle, 2 cousins, plus their plus 1 and both my grandparents on my father's side, which is like at least 20 people, and then there are my friends also. 10 people would never be enough

As a professional wedding planner (in the States) I would love to give you my favorite tips I give my close friends and family when they start the wedding planning process:
- Don’t listen to anybody else’s opinions/ideas about your wedding besides your fiancé
-Secure a venue FIRST. Because everything else is determined on the venue. Sometimes even the date of your wedding
-Absolutely get a good wedding planner. Not only will they make your life way easier through this process but it’s essential for the rest of your vendors to have only one point of contact for your event
- You don’t have to do “The Show” all at once. You can always get legally married this year, then do the ceremony and reception next year
-Lastly don’t stress. You’re marring the love of your love. And this will be another happy moment to make in a lifetime of joy and love 🥰🥰

With the whole event vs. people debate, while I do understand what Farina is saying about the beauty of the event for the people being married, I feel like the moment is even more beautiful when everyone you love is there. Being married is an important milestone that a lot of people wouldn't want to miss. Of course, it's your guys's choice! I'm just a random stranger putting my opinion out there hehe. I wish you luck in your wedding planning!
I agree with Dongin that people being there is more important than the venue/food. I mean at the end of the day it’s about marrying the person you love and being with the people who love you. Like he said, you guys may find ways to cut costs so it can stay within your budget. It’s just my opinion though. As long as you’re both happy that’s all that matters.
My best tip is to make it SIMPLE and CHEAP so you can invite all the ppl you want. Dare to be unconventional! Don't be too attached to the venue or location. It may stress you out and cause conflicts. It's all about having a nice party with ppl you love. Remember that... 😅💖
Let your family and friends contribute to the wedding in stead of giving you unnecessary gifts. You don't need a wedding planner if you make it that simple. 😅
Well, it's important to be flexible because this wedding is for both of you. Take into consideration what each other wants. Also, in my opinion, the memories are created by a good atmosphere and the presence of friends and family, not solely by the food and venue.

Farina, I understand that you have a vision for the wedding but please don't let Dongin not have all of his special people there even if it is 50. I mean, if he's saying he's close with them all, then he is. If he is willing to pay, then go through with it. A wedding is a life changing moment and definitely a familial included event. Your guy's cultures are different and the way weddings happen are different so please be open and flexible with that in mind. Maybe you guys can split tasks like he deals with the guest count and you deal with the aesthetic of the venue (decor)? Best of luck planning and congrats again on your engagement!
family and friends are important in events like that .....dancing with them and having fun with the people you love is the thing that makes it memorable and a big event in your life .....
I believe some people are being a bit harsh bc farina thinks the venue is more important, but by the end they even saw a place that would fit the number of people dongin needs and also fullfils the event that farina dreams of. Guys, I'm here for you! I really love how you both can say whatever you want without arguing and then comencing from that point

ooooooo i agree with dongin, as an asian, your closest family can literally make up 20 people 😅 10 spaces for family is definitely not enough…. i think maybe a good compromise would be to have a super intimate wedding at the perfect venue with the perfect food, but then also have a second celebration with a bigger circle of family and friends!

Wedding planning is hard. I would keep in mind, you don’t want to have any regrets bc you will only get married onetime. Yes, you could have another one to renew your vows. But there’s 1 first wedding. So plan the wedding you both can work with. No matter what, it’s both your wedding day and you both should be happy with the venue and those attending. Can’t wait to see your journey ❤
i agree with dongin here, ofc the food and location is important but the people are more important. after many years you will remember the memories made with the guests and the fun you had not the food. u should get a wedding planner, doing everything yourself is stressful
This might be a great opportunity for everyone to understand the cultural differences that are causing the core issue here - the importance of family. For the Asian person, regardless of gender male or female, the significance of family cannot be understated, but for the western person, it may not be such an importance because individualism is valued to be of greater significance. Until there can be mutual compromise and understanding, this core cultural difference in perspective is going to creep in over and over again throughout the course of your lifetime together. It can either make your marriage, or break your marriage. I am Asian (Singaporean) but married to a white American, and we live in the United States, but we travel often (yearly) back to my home country for my family. Luckily for both of us, my husband and I met when we were older and more mature, we married in our mid 30s and now are in our 50s, and still happily married, maybe happier now than we've ever been. I wish you both good intentions.
I’m Spanish( “western”) and have the same issue that DongIn has, so don’t reduce “culture” to eastern/western, is very simplistic. In Spain family is very important too, and most of the mediterranean countries are the same.
I really hate when people simplify cultural traits base on if the country is from “this continent or from that continent”, every country is a world. Please, have it in mind before talk about this kind of things…

We had a small wedding 40 guests, in a vintage style sunhouse and it was such a perfect day
If I ever said I’m only inviting 10 people to my wedding, my parents will be furious, my entire family will be extremely offended and my bloodline will probably disown me 😂 (No offense tho. I know culture can be different. I understand the beauty of intimate time with the closest people. Sometimes, our reality takes over some matters)

Nachdem mein Mann und ich unsere Hochzeit alleine geplant haben hier ein paar Tipps 😊
1. Es ist EURE Hochzeit und sie muss nur euch alleine gefallen!
Wie haben una am Anfang etwas gezwungen gefühlt einige Leute einzuladen und wir waren so froh, es am Ende nicht getan zu haben. Vor allem haben wir Unruhestifter nicht eingeladen. Niemand möchte schlechte Stimmung an dem Tag.
2. Überlegt wer kommen soll und sucht dann direkt eine passende Location. Bei uns war es sogar so, dass die Veranstalter auch einen DJ, Blumenladen und Bäcker, sowie das Restaurant als Bundle hatten. Dadurch mussten wir nicht viel anderes suchen.
Denkt auch dran, dass wenn die Leute da übernachten sollen das auch möglich ist (vllt. auch für Leute die ein kleines Gehalt haben).
3. Sobald ihr einen Tag habt geht direkt zum Standesamt dort. Bzw. Macht einen Termin. Wir waren etwas spät und dadurch war unsere Trauung statt 13 Uhr wie wir es gern wollten schon um 10.30 Uhr (das war super doof, weil man nicht ausschlafen konnte, zwecks Friseur und Stylistin...) Der Tag war dadurch viel zu lang und wir waren um 0 Uhr schon mehr als durch.
4. Lasst euch von Trauzeugen helfen, wenn ihr sowas möchtet. Unsere waren einfach top und haben so viele tolle Spiele (Schuhspiel) organisiert und dafür gesorgt, dass sich jeder ins Gästebuch einträgt.
Wir sind ohne Hochzeitsplaner sehr sehr gut ausgekommen und noch jetzt bekommen wir immer wieder Komplimente:). Wenn man das Geld übrig hat dann klar, aber es geht auch so, wenn man z.b. nur die richtige Location hat. Bei uns gab es z.B. alles vor Ort. (Stühl, usw.)
its so interesting to watch you planning wedding, because as an azerbaijanian i can say that in our wedding 100 guests are minimum. i was at wedding lately and there were 700 guests and its okay here. even if you dont have enough money, people do everything to invite everyone they love. i love you guys so much and hope to see you as a married couple soon!!

A work around for the amount of guests is you invite your closest circle of family and friends to the ceremony and those are the people that you pay for accommodation at the reception (or wherever you have your wedding), these people will also be served the meal after the ceremony. You invite everyone else you want to invite to the after party where you serve drinks and snack type foods. Then it will be their responsibility to pay for their own accommodation, of course you help by recommending hotels nearby. Hope this helps!

I am with Farina on this one, I got married a few years ago and at the end of the day, this is a day for you but it can so easily get over budget. It is about what is the most essential, especially when you have a clear budget. In some countries inviting lots of people is more common because families pay for it but when it is the two of you, it totally makes sense.
Definitely get a wedding planner. Sister of mine and her husband decided to make the wedding happen by themselves only and they were so stressed even on the D-day that they weren’t able to enjoy it at all.

I can see both sides, I wouldn't want a wedding day experience to be clouded by the stress of the money for any couple but also couldn't imagine not sharing it w as many people as I would love to have their. But there's options to have a beautiful venue that can fit more people, so definitely keep looking to find something that gives you both what you love.

I am happy to see you in my country! Welcome to Italy! Being "Comasca", I recommend other beautiful areas to visit, near Lake Como: Argegno, Menaggio and all the Valle d'Intelvi (where I live)! In Lanzo Intelvi, towards Switzerland, there is a place called Balcony of Italy: it is a beautiful place to visit! If you will have your wedding here please invite me! :)
Could you have a very small ceremony at the Como venue? And then have a second ceremony at a much less expensive & bigger place after?
having many guests and still keeping high quality of location, food, etc/ consider 2025--2026 that way you have time to plan and save for everyone who you want to share this moment with. Basically you are hosting a big party, so take the time you need to be able to do everything you both want.

Mein Cousin hat auch in Italien geheiratet. Das Hotel für die Gäste war zu Fuß erreichbar. Gäbe es also ein bezahlbares Hotel in der Nähe von der Hochzeitslocation, wäre das auch eine Option. :)
Außerdem hat sich die Familie in Deutschland zusammengetan und einen Bus/Busfahrer gemietet! Dann sind alle zusammen, ca. 20 Leute, mit dem Bus angereist. Gefahren sind wir von Freitag Abend bis Samstag morgen. Am Sonntag war dann die Hochzeit, und am Montag ging es zurück mit einem kurzen Halt am Gardasee! Das ganze war über Pfingsten, sodass alle am Montag sowieso frei hatten und sich lediglich den Dienstag freinehmen mussten ^^ Hotel und den Anteil am Bus hat dann jeder Gast selber bezahlt. Vielleicht wäre das für euch ja auch eine Option :)

it's not a family gathering, y'know? it's a event for them to celebrate their relationship and how far they are now, in my opinion the focus shouldn't really be in the guests that much :b Sure, having the people you love there make it lots more special, but the point is: When you have to make your "dream" wedding cheaper just so you can make it better for other people to fit it, is it really a event for you and your fiancée?
Maybe it is because I'm a foreigner, but i can actually understand Farina's side much better :D You guys are forgetting its her wedding too, it should be as special for her too! So I suggest finding a mid-term, rather than making EVERYTHING cheaper to fit more people or getting an amount of guests that will make one of the sides feel bad
In the end, Respect whatever they come in terms with, it being one way or another, it's their event not yours
