    Thank you for your review. I have figured out that most of my family and friends will never get their Ham license. Therefore, I am looking at GMRS radios. I was really happy to see the BAC-001 battery case included.

    I have found that it's quite simple to remove the screws for the speaker mic cover using the edge of a P-38 military can opener and also works well to remove the supplied thumbscrew should you choose to use it. No need to carry a screwdriver.

    I ended up with a KG-935G+, but I almost bought one of these. Maybe for the wife 👍🏻

    Would love to see a comparison between this radio and the Ailunce HA1G GMRS handheld. I've got both, and was curious which would be a better "daily carry" choice.

    • @GadgetTalk4U
      @GadgetTalk4U  2 місяці тому

      The big difference is the Ailunce HA1G is a dual band radio. So, the S88 won't monitor weather and other VHF frequencies. That, and price. Since you say you have both, what are your thoughts between the two? Cheers,

    Love my S88G, BUT I can't program it with my Mac Computer! Any ideas?

    • @GadgetTalk4U
      @GadgetTalk4U  Рік тому +1

      Not a Mac user. Is there a Windows emulation mode? Otherwise, consider a cheap or used Windows laptop for your radio programs. Most CPS's don't run on Macs. Chirp runs on Macs but the S88 isn't supported yet.

    I see there are no NOAA presets, can it still be programs on one of the DYI channel? For those folks who want NOAA channel on their GMRS radio, is this unit for them?

    • @GadgetTalk4U
      @GadgetTalk4U  Рік тому

      As I mentioned in the video, this is a UHF radio only. NOAA channels are VHF, so no, it is not. Lots of other dual receive choices out there. I have reviews and links on my channel. Cheers.

    How many characters will the display show for a channel rename for a repeater

      6. I mention that at 17:10 in the video. Should be enough for a meaningful abbreviation. Cheers

    Is it just me or is it identical to the Baofeng UV-13?

    • @GadgetTalk4U

      Similar but it's smaller and has two knobs on the top. It's also a single band radio - just UHF.

      No. You may be able to get some public service channels, but most police use digital and trunked systems.

    I'm a bit put off by the fact that this radio advertised at .5 watts and 5.0 watts is only outputting .2 watts and 3.1 watts. ☹️ 🤷‍♂️

    • @GadgetTalk4U
      @GadgetTalk4U  Рік тому +2

      Thanks for watching and commenting. As I mentioned in the video, I've seen others who got closer to 5 watts than I did. Could be my measurements. At the same time, many of these small HTs output between 3 and 5 watts so it didn't upset or shock me. If you get one, do your own measurements and let us know what you got.

    Seems expensive for the power output that you get. Only advantage is the size and the fact its super whatever

    • @radiohobbyist13
      @radiohobbyist13 Рік тому +2

      This is the NORMAL power output for a handheld walkie-talkie. There is no such thing as a super high powered walkie-talkie because it would drain the battery very quickly and it would be UNSAFE to transmit with much more than 5 or so watts with the antenna so close to your head.

      It's a super heterodyne instead of a homodyne system on a chip.
