I watched this race live on television ...Gary Gerould, Danny Sullivan and Bob Varsha! Just incredible commentating! I was at the Michigan 500 at the turn 4 tragedy one week earlier I'll never forget those days Thank you
Best CART/Indy Car broadcast team ever, Varsha and Sully were perfect together. And I'm a huge fan of Paul Page Sam Posey and Bobby Unser! But these guys were on fire. Not sure if Sully called it quits or the replaced him for '99, but it's a bummer. It's been all downhill from there!
Whoever thought back in 1998 that the boy in the blue shirt giving the command would go on to be a driver himself, driving for his father and winning races, albeit not winning the Indy 500 and championships like his father did in his prime.
I had a good laugh at that actually. I was crewing for a guy in SCCA Formula Atlantic competition in 2005 and we raced against Graham at the Runoffs in Mid-Ohio that year. He decimated the field. Of course he was practically born at the track, had the best of everything equipment wise, along with a 7-man professional crew from their Toyota Atlantic team so if he HADN’T destroyed us all there would have been questions. Still a fun experience and we spent some time with Bobby and Graham at the TRD dinner that year. Good family and good people. Wish Graham had found more success in his career than he has though. Bobby was one of the true gentlemen drivers of the sport.
Learned today that George Lucas had a sound guy with equipment at *THIS* race recording the cars. They used the sound clips to create the sound of Anakin Skywalker's pod racer in Star Wars Ep.1 The Phantom Menace 🤯
50:20 alex sitting outside the racing line at the bottom of thunder valley and no yellow flags by the corner workers. I'm glad to see the standards are still kept as high in 2023 from what I saw, haha

In case anyone is wondering, the song in the intro starting at 2:04 is "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight" by Genesis.
Love Genesis
Cool to see a young Graham Rahal.
Gary and Jack were great play by play. They should have pulled them out of the pit lane more often.
Thank you so much for posting these
