In the future people will look back on 1950 to 2000 as the greatest period for music ever
The future already started, far as I’m concerned.
😅.
Love hearing great artists grooving on embryonic versions of later hits. Steve Miller did it, Zeppelin on occasion, The Floyd for sure. Far and away this is my favorite version of the song that would catapult Miller to superstardom in 2-3 years. We’re lucky to have this.
Don´t get it, later hits ??? "èmbryonic versions" of what ?
These early live versions of this song are universes apart from the "hit" that got produced. The radio hit was groovy...these live versions are inspired beyond explanation.
@@ralfschmidt6719 Steve Miller played this song for several years in this version before it was reworked and put onto an album.
Well said. Hell yeah.
@@perrywolberger7493 Thanks. Just nice to know someone’s on my wavelength-to get all ‘70s and shit’
Saw him in 67, at the Fillmore, right before I got inducted into the Army, the next dat..he was awesome, wearing white leather, with fringes.
This is awesome 👍😊❤️ God bless humanity 🙏♥️! God bless the world 🙏 and all of it's inhabitants.
I’ll have what you’re having!
I can't believe it took me 50 years to hear this version of the song. What a rendition of the song. Reborn 😅🎉
Awesome listened to at 11. I'm now 59 and still listen
The Steve Miller Band seems to have a real grip on how to be awesome 🥰
damn we use to get so stoned listening to this song back in our teens lol
1/20/2024 RIP Mark we love you and see you Flynn with the Eagles.you never gave up.
Just beautiful
Steve Miller's God father was none other than the legendary....Les Paul. Any questions on why Steve is one of the all time greats?
It reminds me of when I got my first Steve Miller album, our art teacher in 10th grade let us bring albums and play music during class, Steve Miller album was a huge hit in class
Steve Miller (and band) were into rhythm, melody and damn good music.
"God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen"...11 days after Christmas, 1973. The Feast of the Epiphany would be the day after this concert, btw.
Wow, so much more nuanced and rich than the radio version.
That is absolutely right. A fantastic special version. But without the (original) radio version we would not have known this song or it would not have gotten this popularity in the western world. I have the original LP 😏 Greetings from 🇩🇪
They were still jamming out the version that would eventually become the single - two years after this was recorded! He did another trippy version on Don Kirschner's rock concert that's also available on this app. Glad to have EVERY version. I was around back then, and had no way of hearing this.
Thank gawd for youtube!
Prayers for Steve wells. Flying with the Eagles RIP
this is the song for when I pass on,cause I am going to fly like an eagle & be free
Yo también 👍🦅
THis is performed in 1974 and wikipedia is trying to tell us that this song was released in 1976. I believe that this was performed in 1074. But later, in the article about this song, wikipedia does, add ---"The band first performed the song in 1973 while performing at New York City's Felt Forum on a bill with The Marshall Tucker Band, Buddy Guy and Junior Wells."
I’d pay serious coin to go back in time and dig that show, for sure.
This version is the best song I have heard in years
WOW!!! 😊 I can almost picture an Eagle 🦅 flying at Mach speed with that intro. Cool 😎
Seen the late night tv performances. THIS, is something really special.
oh my dear GOD that intro was so divine..
You better get saved. The end is very near.
The groove reminds me of War
The only psychedelic version of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen I've heard.
I thought i was the only one that noticed it was a Christmas song
Comfort and Joy...
Kin u do it better?
The tune was around as an English folk melody for at least a hundred years before it was first used with the words of 'God Rest Ye merry, Gentlemen' in the mid-1800s. The original tune used by 'God Sit ye Merry, Gentlemen' was not the same melody. By the early 1800s another English folk tune, 'Cornish' was used as the melody for the carol.
old skool thanks comrade this still rings true to this day ,shame on those war mongers .but we shall overcome
If you have surround sound speakers turn it UP Amazing sound & Legendary Band
Epic version.
I like this version the best!
OH YEAH WINTERLAND SEEING STEVE MILLER I WILL NEVER FORGET THAT SATURDAY NIGHT 🎤🎸🎵🎶🌟✨⭐
I think I was there too. I wish I knew who else was on the playlist that night. I was usually under numerous influences..

That groove is amazing. Drummer great feel
Always loved the drummers style. Can't stand the drum machines.
Wow, this early, psyche-blues version is like a million times better than the official version!
Absolutely! I saw a recent version by the band that was so constrained. This is how I remember this song, with Steve's vocals open and clear.
had my birthday yesterday, age 52 I'm a sort of "space cowboy" and like both but I prefer this one better. the guitar does it! And clearer vocals.
@Atlas King *_RIGHT?!_* 😱😍👍🏻
No es lo mismo tocar en directo ,que estar en un estudio, hay grupos que al tocar en directo pierden mucho,en cambio otros lo hacen mejor, muy buen tema.
Pure, unadulterated gorgeousness.
Quickest 11 minutes in history !!
Fantastic ❤️ tune, another musical genius , no doubt!
Awesome
Love love love such a creative genius. He can croon like no other rocker!
The one and only Space Cowboy.
The God-son of the great Les Paul.
Sucha musician, whoa!I saw him and his band in Chicago back in 1975 around when this video is from. Man, so high was I and young and happy.I had a band ZI was in and to see him perform this album is indescribable!
Steve's God Father was the legendary Led Paul!
Absolutely love this more psychedelic version of the classic tune. I'm used to hearing mainstream in late 70's - early 80's s this is Very Kewl!!
Love some Steve Miller.....
Legendary. Love this version!
Why is it so rare to capture a version like this on tape? Almost never is a long, trippy extended song like this on tape or vinyl?
Commercial controls determine how much to give to the public to determine the most money made. It effects everything in the business. Give them everything they want...could lose a lot of potential profits for the future. Why there was and is so much friction between musicians, agents and companies...money.
This is so LIVE
Damn funky.
This was the impromptu jam version. He explains it on a video on u tube. It wasnt complete until early 76
What a treat
amazing ! ! ! ! ! fabulous ! ! ! !
Love this song
interesting there are two versions of this song. this one has the badassness of a guitar instead of the echoing space synthesizers.
..that was AWESOME!
incredible audio and I like the black and white visuals
❤ love this song🎼🤌❣️
the one and only stevie guitar miller thats awesome
🔥🦅

speaks through the guitar
Great stuff!!! I live in Phoenix...
He's using an Echoplex and Maestro phaser all over this show
Awesome, thank yo for posting.
ONE FINE DAY
This rec is high AF, gosh so LSD, wow, brlliant strings n drum work ❤
Stoned
Fucking mindblowing awesome...
That is what I’m talking about
The intro is "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" with delay (yeah, the XMas song). He did that same intro on Midnight Special. LOL! But, whatever, it still sounds groovy man! 👍❤️🤟
wow reminds me of weed and Boone's Farm wine
😆😆😆
Oh my God, remember those days! Boones farm Apple.
HAW! Strawberry Hill
😂
THE AMAZING & ICONIC STEVE MILLER... BITCHES!! 🎶🎸🎶🎸🎶

A prophet musing over the fading...REVOLUTION...and how through the..Spirit of the Eagle...to get that GRACE of Vision to fly back Home once more.I want to fly from the RESERVATION...WOUNDED KNEE (Steve payed out the inspiration for the song as coming from the 1973 Native American occupation of Wounded Knee) 🐝🌈💫 Mitakuye Oyasin
💛
I am going to fly like an Eagle when I die into the sky and I am happy to be healed by Jesus. K.a.s
Go for it man. I hope things work out for you.
Tick tock tick 🕰
john king good drummer
🌷 Hare Kṛṣṇa 🌷
Lyrics are a bit all over the place. Either, the song wasn't fully formed yet, or he was in a very psychedelic zone :)
I like this version better than the studio version. So spacey.
Boz scaggs plays too?
Yep! They were kids together; as teens playing!
Who is the drummer?
1:50
Omg

huelga ?
some of these live videos are so poorly made, why does youtube allow this kind rubbish?
You are kidding, right? Videos like this are gold dust from a different era.
Right on ted149
Wow. I thought this was golden also.
Bill Graham, who ran Winterland, had an impeccable audio recording system, as you can probably hear. Video in early ‘74 was much more primitive, and decayed swiftly over time-hence the bleached grainy B&W we see here. If you care about rock music you are grateful to have this to see and hear at all. If you don’t know you don’t know.
