I love how the "woke" are constantly attributed as being snowflakes and sensitive, yet there's such a massive backlash to players wearing *checks notes*... laces and armbands? It's literally little bits of fabric that are making grown ass men foam at the mouth with rage. Everyone just needs to calm down and learn to just ignore things that don't matter to you like flags, because such over the top reactions only reinforce the reason for their presence in the game.
They are not "literally little bits of fabric". By that logic it'd be fine for a player to rock up with a swastika and n-word armbands. Since they're just bits of fabric with no other meaning? Such as promoting the physical and chemical mutilation and castration of children. But idk tho
It’s not the flag itself. It’s what the flag represents. This is a straw man, and it is the only argument that people can make do defend the progressivism. “It’s not that big a deal. Why do you care?” We as a society have diluted traditional values and morality, and we have lied to ourselves by saying that all behavior is equally useful to society. It’s not about hating anyone. It’s about recognizing good, useful, and virtuous behavior. That what you’re doing when you wear the armband. You’re celebrating behavior that just should not be celebrated.
@@shawnlewin9057Maybe not celebrated. Normalized why shouldn't it? Unless your society is hell bent on repressing 3% of the population for no good reason, you don't need to be "celebrating" the fact that you can live and breathe and do everything else everyone can do.
People should be complaining and protesting club ownership for increased ticket prices, injuries left-right-center, the fact that you need like 3 streaming services to see all games, etc etc. Greed is the problem in football, not the person you love. I get that the rainbow flag is a bit obnoxious, bit gambling ads are way worse
you intentionally frame it as being about love, which is just disingenuous, almost like you and others know deep down that love and lust are objectively not moral equivalents but still choose to pretend otherwise.
@@thelonewolf115Nah, it’s not. Take a look at the average Pride parade. If half of the things that happen on them were done outside of that parade the people involved would be banged up for public indecency. They are one long cavalcade of perversion and they get away with it in the name ‘tolerance’. Just so you know, because most people aren’t aware of this, the phrase ‘love is love’ that the rainbow crowd use was first used by paedos. It is still used by them.
Remember that many of these players who refuse to wear Rainbow gear for religious reasons regularly put on kit that is sponsored by companies that their religions are opposed to, like gambling companies...
I have a no room for racism patch on my football shirt i don't get people verbally berating me about it, even though when it first came in to the league it was a bit uncomfortable at the start but now it's better, if I wore rainbow laces I'd be verbally talked down too right now but it will get better in time, especially when an openly gay player comes out in a top league which will happen in time. Keep it in the public consciousness. Because it isn't going anywhere, you don't CHOOSE to be gay. Let those who hate waste there lives away being miserable, let those who feel unseen stay seen. As for Coote coming out im happy for the guy, wish him well in his future, but just because he is gay that doesn't excuse his past issues.
"No room for racism" isnt vague messaging and is very concise and impossible to misinterpret. It also isnt tied to any political activist groups like the bending the knee gesture was which is why nobody has a problem with no room for racism but taking the knee caused far more outrage. You could even make a campaign called "No room for homophobia" but completely disconnect it from the LGBT movement which is a political movement and far fewer people would take issue with it. The problem is using BLM or LGBT-whatever as the vehicle for these campaigns.
@@rekzahogk6476 The LGBT community isnt a political movement, it's just a community of people who have comradery in their identities, there are people who use the community for political gain all across the political compass, but the community itself isn't political, and the rainbow laces campaign has the exact same purpose as No Room For Racism, but for homophobic bigotry rather than racial bigotry, it is true that the meaning is less obvious, but the intent isn't political
@@rekzahogk6476 you say that the no room for racism is impossible to misunderstand yet you're still getting buffoons who believes it's acceptable to be racist, we've seen many examples recently and as for the rainbow flag being too "vague" it's literally the one thing that folks who take issue with it seems to know, rainbows= LGBTQ to them, it's why you get triggered fools complain when a kid has a rainbow painted on their face (something nobody had issues with years ago only now everything is a fear mongering culture war). The way you have commented it seems like you equate LGBTQ for just gay people and it's not that at all. It's not just about homophobia, it's about making all of those who identify as part of the LGBTQ community feel safe and welcome. That's why it's the rainbow flag because it is a coming together for everyone who is a part of that community or an ally who is supportive.
@@rekzahogk6476 you say that yet you get buffoons who deem it socially acceptable to be racist look at how saka was treated after the 2020 euros, it's gotten progressively worse since then. The rainbow flag isn't just for gay folks so the "no room for homophobia" is too vague, it's for anyone who is part of the LGBTQ community. Everyone's going to be selectively outraged and all this upset will go away when someone is comfortable to come out, might be a bit of bantering to begin with but society moves on. It happened in the UFC, rugby union ect.
The issue is just the top down way that LGBT issues have been advocated in football and men's sport in general. The main issue really is just the homophobia present in locker rooms present from a young age, which pushes gay athletes out of the sport and allows the issue to fester. Thats where LGBT advocacy in football should focus its efforts, regardless of whether footballers wear armbands or not
I’ve been to football games with a pride badge on my coat and have never received an issue, I swear nobody in real life cares about this and it’s purely a symptom of the toxic twitter environment now a days
Why do you guys feel the need to scream to the world that you are part of the lgbt community? Genuinely why? You’re gay or lesbian or whatever…good for you. Just enjoy the football like everyone else. Do you do it for attention? Do you want to brand yourself as different to everyone else???
@squidsquad6286 I'm going to answer you assuming you're asking this question in good faith with a genuine want to know. I personally wear the pin to know that people who are feeling like they aren't able to express/talk about thier sexuality that thiers no reason to hide/be scared about revealing who you are. It's also a symbol of solidarity for those who previously weren't able to or have faced adversity for doing so in the past.
@ I just think homophobia in the west would go down by 99.9% if your community just acted like everyone else. No need to showcase your sexual orientation to everyone. Most people couldn’t care less what you do in your bedroom.
i accidentally wore my kuffiyeh at the den, only notice afterwards. no problems whatsoever. but there is a huge culture of homophobia in football, illustrated by the fact that there are zero openly gay players in the PL. statistically, that's downright impossible
Utter woke nonsense. FIFA and the Prem have rules against players making political statements with their clothing and other statements, so then, why do they PUSH this upon us? There’s a political statement if I’ve seen one. And then talk about the backlash and controversy if you don’t want to participate. Like Marc Guehi, who is a devout Christian, yet he got heat for it from the press for writing Jesus loves you on the armband. Sometimes you say things that make sense, this ain’t one of em. I just wanna watch football, I don’t care what players/fans are gay, Muslim, Atlantean, Grey alien, etc. Why do they gotta be so extra? At the end of the day, support my team with me, or support your team and we banter. If you’re too soft for that, maybe you should go back and play house you pansies.
Also you fail to realize that that's not how it works for most people. You may not care and are able to support how you want but many people can't due to being lgbtq and fear of backlash. There are probably players with talent that have been pushed out of sports for being gay, maybe even some pro player who haven't come out due to fear of backlash. That said i do agree that the rainbow laces is failing in educating on why all of this matters and makes it seem like an empty gesture but at the end the representation does matter.
The thing with woke culture is that yes, it’s very obnoxious, but it’s not NEARLY as obnoxious as the boohoo crybabies who CONSTANTLY talk about it. I mean for fucks sake I’d have less “woke” shit in my life if people would stop complaining about it 24/7
Absolutely, It does get over the top and is pretentious. But the anti-wokes are the whingyist little sobs. They see the wokey monster every where. They think civilisation is falling because there's a misplaced black character in a drama. Im alive 41 years, very social. I've met one person in the entirety of that who I though was overly woke. people have shit to do
ironic really. and the funny thing is woke culture has been so bastardized by corporate motives that its not even really a thing anymore. anyone complaining about it now is ironically either a part of adjacent to the fascist right wing movements that have been and are becoming even more the norm in the whole of the western world.
It's not an issue in football. It's an issue in human culture. The forced propaganda in some football games is not going to change anything. It is only pushing people farther away. Just Let them play football.
I watch your videos because you are reasonably insightful and your analysis is balanced. You’re in deep waters here, bud! “It’s just wearing some colours” is seriously diminishing the issue. Given your intellect, zi expect more from you. It’s not just about colours, it’s about “forced participation”. You’re a Burnley fan, but if you were told you had to wear another team’s colours, would you do it. Not doing it doesn’t mean you “hate” the other team, but there is a quite divisive oppression at work in insisting that you MUST wear those colours. No? When footballers are forbidden from removing their shirts to reveal personal or political messages on their undershirts, how is it possible that it can be enforced that they should be commanded to wear personal or political emblems? Simples, no?
You know that's absolutely not the case. It's the people behind the colors, at least the ones that are undermining the message. If I flew the isis flag and said "oh it's just a flag these people are so offended by it" you'd obviously slap me to bits. But the goal of ISIS was country building. No obviously I'm not comparing isis to the LGBTQ+ movement. I'm just saying that the people behind the LGBTQ movement are so "anti normal", i.e they want to be celebrated for just being themselves, do weird bdsm bullshit in parades, and pretty much expecting entitlements for just having a different sexuality. This is what annoys most people, and more importantly, most LGBT people who just want to live normally. The rainbow flag movement is a loud and annoying minority, that completely undermines their goal, and brings unnecessary animosity.
And all those Jews offended by a flag with several black lines are also wrong? What a silly comment, forced ideology, no matter what it is, threatens the freedom of the individual in psychological and physical ways. A modern day "touch guy" is Matt Le Tissier who was sacked for not taking the knee and wearing a little badge on his jacket on SkySports. I am not offended by colours but by the imposition of ideology within the space of sports. If I take my kids to the football, I do not want to be talking about what those flags means, especially as they are counter to my religion. Wrong place, wrong time, wrong people....
Because these people are the very definition of hypocrisy, it’s either “You’re with us or against us”. If these morons weren’t so tribal, then there should be no reason for it to be a big deal that a person refuses to wear an armband. But for some reason, it is.
Hiding behind religion is an excuse. Why these players don't have any problem repping their betting/gambling sponsors? Also what is their actual reason being against LGBT besides they find it gross? How someone else being gay hurts you personally?
"Woke" is a crap word that people have adopted to describe this phenomena in media. A better phrase is "Performative Diversity". When you describe it this way, it becomes clear why people take issue with "wokeness". Some hate the diversity full-stop (see homophobes using religion as a shield for their attitude). Others, like myself, hate the "performative" part. The insincere parade of women, non-white people and the LGBT as if to self-righteously announce that corporations see people... as people. A parade that interrupts or stifles the actual thing I'm here to enjoy.
Well, you danced around the disenfranchisement caused by new discrimination to right historical wrongs, which is illogical blood libel. People are getting their truth boots on bub. The hard ass types that are so benighted? You are safer round them then your metropolis of diversity dreams.
I feel like most people agree, that you should freely choose whoever you want to have a relationship with, as long as it's consensual and between adults. Then you can discuss and even disagree on how you go on from there. But when someone who's not even disagreeing, but not 100% supportive of any policy or program that includes diversity, is labeled as homophobic... That's really problematic. Because you turn people against it. (Sorry for language errors - german)
Homophobia isnt really the problem. It's just finding a reason to insult people. Ive heard people shout at refs for their personal family issues, injuries even things like hair cuts and glasses. It's just an insult culture, and being gay is just one common insult. FA associations around with world introducing Imasculine arm bands etc is not only pandering to make the league look better, but it also makes a "masculine-man" sport more feminine. Bright rainbow flags and feminine dudes for the sake of pandering when I just want to be taken out of the world for 90 minutes and watch my favourite team, is annoying and counter productive. I see some comments disregarding the arm bamds as nothing, which is easily the dumbest and worst argument out of all. It it means nothing, when why have them at all? If its JUST an arm band, I guess they can stick a swastika on it? Just an arm band and means nothing right?
Have you never met masculine gay men or lesbian women? Lmao how is it feminine? LGBT people can be as masculine or as feminine as they want, it's not about that, it's about their sexual orientation or gender identity not aligning with the norm of being straight. And a swastika (as used by the Nazis anyway, not the original Buddhist and Hindu symbol) is straight up a hate symbol encouraging the discrimination and murder of others. Do those waving rainbow flags encourage the murder or discrimination of straight people or Muslims? By and large, no.
One of my "favourite" parts of this discussion is that the very people who bash James Mclean, year in year out, for not wearing a poppy are the very same people who say it's Sam Morsy's choice not to wear a rainbow armband. Ultimately, this is about getting rid of bullying from football. Mind you, the same people who think this is a political exercise are the same who think kicking racism out is also political., so there's that...

Please do not equate resistance to woke ideology with homophobia/racism etc. Those are issues in their own right, but “woke” refers more to the totally disingenuous top-down implication of left-wing ideologies in places they aren’t wanted and, in fact, onto wider society at large. This has been done for decades now, with zero tolerance for pushback and with zero attempt to have an actual conversation around these issues and why some might oppose them. It has been completely astroturfed onto society by government, the media (social and legacy) and by powerful corporations using it to virtue signal and the reality is that there is only so much gaslighting that people will tolerate. This applies far wider than just football, too. It is everywhere and people are sick of it at this point. “Woke” is actually having the reverse effect to what it has intended - making racism and homophobia part of the counterculture. People find it funny again because of how sanctimonious and self-righteous the proponents of the “woke” stuff actually are. I am not suggesting that these issues are solved, but I would say that, at this point, it would be better for everyone (racial and sexual minorities included) for things to wind back. Those who are eternally online on reddit would disagree, but they should understand that their echo chamber has never represented the view of the majority.

Good video Liam, personally feel like nobody has to support anything but celebrating pride in football is harmless. Some people are just looking to be outraged.
I go to football to be entertained and support my team. I dont need to be lectured on social issues by a load of millionaires. Even if in a lot of cases I might agree with their stabce on that issue. The hypocritical climate on this when most of football was happy to go to Qatar and take the petro dollar. Does football really give a crap about gay rights.....yes but don't let it interfere with business.
Seems like some of the Muslim players are very selective about the things that they don’t want to represent for instance, none of them seem to have a problem with the betting companies as their advertisers and they wear those shirts every game
Everyone is very selective about the things that don't want to represent. Everyone is a hypocrite, nothing to do with religion, just that people are hypocrites and always will be. Some people are very anti-gay (not just Muslims mind....)
Look, let us be clear about his. Theres only one reason he's admitting he's gay and thats because he wants to use it as a shield whenever he gets criticised for his bad refereeing decisions. nothing else.
The bigger issue is the fact that people have turned to mega-corporations, governments, sports teams, and celebrities to be their moral arbiters, and they mock those who turn to God. That's where we are in the world today.
You are a very sensible guy my friend and even though I don’t agree with most of what you said this video I always love the articulate, considerate and sensical way you put things so fair play dude and don’t worry, ain’t nothing gonna make me unsubscribe to you
Football isn't political. Nobody should have to wear anything. If players can't share messages about troubles in their home countries why are they being forced to do this ? Gay people aren't marginalised there's discrimination laws, society has progressed. Comments online are literally just comments. Mostly coming from literal losers of society.
Football is very political, whether you think it isn't meant to be is your opinion. Football is very political because it is such a followed sport with a lot of power, influence and money. Therefore it becomes political as you can see from ways Stadiums are built/expanded, playing WC in places like SA and Qatar (its massively political, HITC Sevens did a very good video explaining about how football is very political)
People should be free TO NOT BE FORCED to support certain causes without being labelled as a Racists, Homophobic, Transphobic, Arachnophobic or dogphobic.
The problem is that most people who don't support these things are racists, homophobes and transphobes. If you are not any of these, why would you not support these initiatives?
Personally dont have anything against gay people, but its all the messaging, its annoying now. Its gotten to the point were if i see someone with brightly colored hair or anything rainbow ish i get annoyed. Im pretty sure normal gay people go to football matches and dont get harrassed, so i guess its to due with the packaging of the message now and its just a bit jarring now.
That sadly works both ways If you want proof look at another flag that used to be positive and now within some people inspires negative feelings, the British one If you spend all your time demonising someone you’ll hate everything that reminds you of them We’ve gone too far. We all hate each other like Americans do now
Both sides are very obnoxious. The activists pushing the whole thing are annoying as hell and the people who push back constantly are also annoying. Players who don't want to wear the armbands should be allowed not to wear it. Forcing them to endorse a message they disagree with is a very ineffective way to change peoples minds which is why so many people who would otherwise not really care are so aggressive with their opinions against the campaigns.
thanks for talking about this topic. Its sad that you have to expect, that this video will do poorly and your comments will be filled with hate. thanks for being humane
Football just ain’t the same anymore. Kneeling before games. Armbands. Women making out they are somewhere even close to men’s game. Best era long gone sadly. Stick to playing football and leave the politics at the door.
@sho-m-er5194 no it hasn't mate, football traditionally has always been about football, but multi-billion dollar corporations like pl enjoy to spread it's wings to get more money in the front door
@banastic oh yeah sorry I forgot. It's acceptable when the NF had legions of hooligans in different football clubs or when Abramovic bought Chelsea to extend Gazprom's, and by extension Russia's, supply of natural gas to the rest of Europe. But a piece of coloured fabric isn't because it pisses off yer da
the various differences in women's and men's football in terms of acceptance of queerness just makes me sad. thinking of all the closeted footballers at all levels and how difficult it must be for those who have to hide part of themselves. it's such a weird gulf between the men and women's games. i don't think it's just football though, i think it's a broader issue of toxic masculinity and continued ingrained hatred of gay men and the association of gay men with femininity. sadly i don't see things changing unless more broadly we address how hatred of women and narrow views of what it means to be a man negatively impact men to, of all sexualities.. i agree with the surface level of things. i'd much rather a world where queer men footballers feel safe to come out instead of empty gestures...
Even rugby the more physical burley tough sport is more supportive of gay players than football where they roll around and dive like crazy but don't be gay, that's too much
It’s not just “a bit of colour.” If it were just a bit of colour, why would it be so important to gay people and their supporters, like you? By that logic, the Nazi flag is just “a bit of colour” too. You could say the same about anything. We don’t care if you’re gay or if you support gay people-just stop trying to push politics into the game we love.
The issue is, a lot of discourse on the internet is largely children, they are the ones who really have the time to sink into it, and most content creators market towards children. When you have a family and/or fulltime job the last thing you want is to be winding yourself up by reading the opinions of faceless people who are only brazen enough to speak because they can't get boxed in the eye. And now companies, celebrities and politicians are basing their opinions of off the opinions of children, which, are mostly not fully formed and lack life experience. And they wonder why people get wound up when this gets regurgitatd. Most people are not far right, most people are not racist, most people are not woke, most people just want to live and let live, yet we're constantly being told how much everyone hates us for holding any sort of opinion that doesn't fit either side's narrow minded narrative. Blame the likes of Charlie Kirk and Hasan Piker for marketing uninformed political opinions to children.
I feel like I shouldn't comment. However, while I think some of your thoughts on younger people being at the heart of discourse online merit an interesting discussion, what you've said seems to be mainly self conjecture based on an opinion that's not completely informed and subject to emotional triggers. You brought up Hasan for instance, I think if you actually spent some time actually engaging with him and his audience you would find that not many of them are "children," and his politics is hardly uniformed. (honestly not sure why you even felt the need to bring him or Charlie Kirk into this)
You're absolutely right that they market towards children, however, both sides-ing this issue is a false equivalency. One side is simply asking for recognition and has to force campaigns like Rainbow laces because people themselves are wholly unwilling to progress their views to accept everyone as they are, while the other side threaten violence to people based on who they interact with. That's not the same at all and equating Hasan to Charlie Kirk is a wildly misinformed take. If you've ever watched more than a 10 second clip from either person, it's pretty clear that Hasan deals in facts (whether it supports his position or not) while Kirk deals simply with emotions through his blatant racism. While Hasan has his faults when it comes to trying to form a coalition with people from the middle left or typical democrats, he is still informed on what he speaks about and is willing to change his view if he's wrong. Kirk will just tell you that "the bible says xyz so I'm right and you're wrong" and stick to his white supremacist views.
@@HamiV So; Hasan openly claimed the Iranian attack on the US embassy was a false flag operation, and went full tinfoil hat saying it was non-stare actors, Iran then claimed it was then three days later, Hasan was asked to retract it, didn't. He claimed Iran followed denuclearization, but they didn't and still haven't, openly so. Claimed China had the right to colonise Tibet and based this off Tibet having slaves with little evidence (China have slaves now in concentration camps), so to him colonisation is fine if it's from the left wing. Platformed a Houthi terrorist, and laughed with him about dancing with hostages and asked no hard hitting questions just sucked the farts out of his ass and asked him if he watched Anime. The Houthi's also take slaves. Openly supported Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthi's, all who have 'death to the Jews," in their flags, but won't hold them to the same standard as the IDF despite their crimes being remarkably similar. There is a slave trade of Syrians into Lebanon orchestrated by Hezbollah. Constantly got facts about the IDF's attacks on Gaze wrong (I don't support Israel at all, but perpetuating lies that they killed 800 and hit a mosque when they killed less than 8 and hit a carpark just makes you look stupid). He also claims to be a socialist, yet lives in a 25,000ft manor, wears Gucci and Louis Vatton, who have sweatshops mind you, and buys power cars and constantly flies on private jets. He's like a faith healer for socialism, where a faith healer uses Christianity to take the money if the vulnerable, Hasan uses socialism to dupe his audience. He's not a socialist, I'd say he's the ultimate Capitalist using the veil of inflammatory contrarianism to paint himself as a gallant revolutionary, when is in fact part of the bourgeoisie. I'm not telling you to not listen to him, but are you telling me you don't find even some of his behaviour concerning?
@Nufc312 I'm not sure laughing with Houthi terrorists dancing with hostages and asking them about anime, and openly supporting Hezbollah (who have been running a slave trade into Lebanon of Syrian women for nearly a decade), and claiming China had the right to take over Tibet because they had slaves, when China themselves have slaves and concentration camps where hundreds of Uyghuri Muslims are tortured and die everyday, makes him much of a better role model. Not to mention he claims to be a socialist who lives in a 25,000ft estate, wears Gucci and Louis Vatton (who have sweat shops) and buys muscle cars and takes private jet flights every year. He's like a faith healer, they use religion to acclimate a following, he uses politics. He's not a socialist, not really. And as I've grown up I started watching him less and less until I kind of realised, he's just as bad as the other side. And I'd say I'm more of a socialist now than I ever was when I was watching Hasan, because I've got a better source of it now. The Kavernacle is a channel I recommend for better fact based takes. I'm not saying you shouldn't watch him, but you can't tell me you think some of the things he's done and said aren't a little bit concerning.
At Liverpool we stopped the whole “Chelsea rent boys” thing because our LGBT supporters group went on RedmenTV to explain why exactly it was homophobic.
I feel like the problem is just what it resembles as most players have religions. What I think would do is changing it from the lgbt badge to the 'stand against homophobes' or something like that with a black background. I mean tbh the colors kind of ruin the visual aspects and its just kind of forcing to religious players. By changing it to 'stand against homophobes' it'll at least make some aspects to religions that say 'respect and love everyone' and I think it'll receive less criticism. Almost like how the UEFA made the 'stand against racism' campaign.
I'm Muslim but I'm ok with gay people but it is haram (a sin). Just so you guys know, the reason the Muslim players are like this (not wearing the rainbow stuff) isn't necessarily because they don't like LGBT people it's because when they grown up they were taught it's bad. Many Muslims don't think like this, if you watch debates between LGBT people and Muslims none of the Muslim people are being homophobic. Btw vizeh you're my favorite UA-camr love from Minnesota
Everyone will never share the exact same opinions so it would be nice to aim to respect each other. If you don’t want to wear the rainbow armband don’t wear it and if you do then wear it but we shouldin’t abuse or intentionally offend other just because we disagree. I personally have no problem with anyone’s sexuality the only problem I see with LGBTQ is the extreme side of it I see online from people in the USA. I disagree with there being more than 2 genders and I disagree with trans talk with minors & sex change beginning phases for them & some the people at the marches that are weird and take it too far like I saw naked people etc.
Football, at its core, is a universal sport-one that transcends borders, cultures, and backgrounds. It unites millions under a shared passion, regardless of where they come from. So why bring personal ideals into it, especially when the sport already has a diverse, global audience with different beliefs and perspectives? Take homophobia, for example. Many argue that its presence in football stems from introducing topics that aren’t inherently related to the game. When something like sexuality is brought into the spotlight, it becomes an easy tool for people to weaponize-just as racism has been used to unsettle players of different ethnicities. Fans, in an attempt to rattle opponents, exploit these personal aspects to break a player’s focus, even though they have nothing to do with skill, tactics, or performance on the field. At the end of the day, football should be about the game itself. It should be a space where talent, hard work, and teamwork take center stage-free from the distractions of external narratives that can be manipulated or turned into points of division.
Ik everyone should have a freedom of basic expression but you also need to understand that in many societies LGBTQ is not as big of a phenomenon as it is in a country like england. Hence in those societies it is fround upon. I'm should make it clear again that in no Manner I'm supporting the hate but this is something that is expectable if you have such a global fan base as a football club.
To the people that are saying it’s a problem that players and fans are rejecting all the lgbt agenda and campaigns is a problem. Why are they put in a position to reject anything at all? If you’re gay, okay be gay. We don’t need a rainbow armband, rainbow laces, rainbow this rainbow that just for people that exist. Who cares in my opinion. I think it’s fine for organisations to state their values of non discrimination and inclusiveness, I also think there should be actions against anyone that says anything offensive or discriminatory at a football match. But we don’t need the constant reminder shoved down our throat. The more this agenda push happens the more resistance you’ll meet.
The FA consultant is right. People being forced to do something or constantly pushing it is always going to result in pushback from some. I would rather bodies like the FA, etc focus more on what brings the fans together: the game of football itself. Highlighting differences between people does create awareness for these groups, but can also creates division between fans and distances them from what they have in common.
You're saying that it's just a rainbow on your arm so it's not a big deal, but yet everyone makes such a big deal when they don't want to put that rainbow on their arm.
Because their reasoning is mostly pure hypocrisy. They don't want to wear a rainbow armband because of religion but they do play with gambling ads all over their kits. Just say that you don't support it, don't try to justify it with religion when you are already cherry picking which parts to actually follow.
it is a small action, but the act of going out of your way to refuse it isnt. the players don't lose anything by just wearing the armband, and they dont gain anything by not, so why is it such a big deal for them to wack on a rainbow armband for a match and make queer football fans feel safer
@@margaretthatchersgravecandle Probably because that's go directly against their personal belief and as a religious person they would hate to be seen as a contributor of the wrong message essentially it's like telling people to hold a poisonous pill in their mouth without swallowing it just to make people believe that the dude was not a threat to others around him. The homophobic and transphobic culture in football is why i have ended up distancing myself from watching football as much. Funnily enough it's the people who arent affected by it at all which complain about it
Where is there a culture of footballers being scared of gay or trans people? I only ask because you've trotted out the classic "phobic" go to comment that we always get when you run out of valid points. For the last time, not agreeing with something is NOT the same as being scared of something. If you're going to throw around cliche terms, then maybe you should look into the meaning of said words. Funny how we never hear the term Hetrophobic?
@@daveb5998 Have you looked up those terms homophobia and transphobia? Or are you triggered that it has the word "phobia" in it? Because if you'd look them up it doesn't mean "being scared" of gay people. But nice strawman argument.
I don't think Homophobia is a big thing in football here in England, i an bisexual, I play for my college team and support a Premier league club, I often paint my nails and have always had support from the"laddy" teammates and none of them really care which is great. At a West ham game, and all games I go to, I wear a rainbow scarf, its rainbow and is a pride scarf, the only comment I've ever had was 2nlads, one said, oi look at his scarf he's funking guy, the other turned to him and said to his to shut it and to leave me alone. I have never experienced bad homophobia and when I have ove always been somewhat supported and I am quite open.
I do wonder what more can be done, I think if they push it further it will just annoy the same people more It’s a hard one to balance, but one that still needs to be said

While I get the side of the argument in the arm bands that people shouldn't be sensitive about wearing arm bands, I also believe at the end of the day everyone has free will. And as players they shouldn't get punished for what they believe in. They should get ridiculed or judged. "it's just an arm band is one of the most dumb arguments there. I can't force someone to do something so just to appease my beliefs. The same way some people say," why do you care about the arm band?" I can raise a similar argument saying, "why do you care so much if they don't wear it?" I believe the freedom to choose what you want, as long as it doesn't harm anyone, should be upheld everywhere. It's literally one of our freedoms. FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION
Liam, I’m so glad you feel this open about your belief to say what needs to be said no matter what. Respect and many people agree and are just ignorant and it’s just bants to them.
I will say the England squad saying they were going to wear the rainbow armband up until fifa said the captain would be booked for it, in the qatar world cup, was an embarrassment, and showed to me that they only do it when it benefits them, same with jordan henderson doing what he did.
Homophobia in football is a symptom. Even though some people in stadiums wouldn't normally be homophobic in their daily lives toward gay people, the atmosphere brings out "the worst" in them (by "the worst," I mean their true selves and their hidden prejudices). There are only so many things that these clubs can do to change the situation, and unfortunately, I think that limit has been reached. From now on, if we really want to "eradicate" this sort of behavior from stadiums, we have to take action outside of them. That's where it originates. Thank you for this video.
A footballer wearing a jersey with gambling ads, alcohol ads, banks/interest ads, and in the same breath refuse to put on a rainbow amrband, to fans tuning in to watch the HEINEKEN ucl, Barclays PL, SKY bet etc. Talk about hypocrisy.
“Why not just wear the rainbow? It’s just a flair of color.” I hate that argument: Why not wear the Swastika? It’s just a flair of color. It’s not being put on the jacket for no reason. There’s a very clear reason.
my friend, you are well and truly lost if you are actually comparing a rainbow flag with a swastika. pls log off the internet for a few days, go outside and talk to some people
"It's fine wearing it, you shouldn't be annoyed by it" 1. IMO it's what decided the US presidential election 2. Why fine Marc Guehi for writing a message on it ? the message wasn't bad either... for me the last one is what ignited this aversion for pushing messges everywhere (and holding people from doing the same)
I think if a player refuses to wear rainbow armbands, they should have to explain their decision at the clubs next LGBTQ committee meeting. If they really believe what they are saying is right, they should have no problem going into a room surrounded by the people they don't support and telling them
The thing is that this only ever seems to happen in football/ soccer, I almost never see or hear the same occurring in day rugby. Nigel Owens came out years ago and is one of the most respected referees in the sport. He even makes jokes about being gay too, like one time a player threw on awful ball all over the gaff and Owens laughed and said “fucking hell even I’m straighter than that!”
While I think campaigns like Rainbow Laces are beneficial to cultivating a welcoming environment for LGBTQ people, rolling out rainbow armbands etc as a one time special event will always be limited in its impact. A much more impactful statement is the one made through choice, like choosing to lace your boots with rainbow laces every week, not doing it on the single designated day because everybody else is as well. David McGoldrick taking the knee before kickoff in the very first game back after COVID wasn’t an iconic moment because the FA was running a Black Lives Matter campaign, it was iconic because not only did he choose to kneel to send a message, but he asked his teammates and opposing Villa players to join him, despite pushback from the league
I can’t stand it when a player uses their religion as an excuse to be bigoted. They ask for respect, but how can I respect an opinion that is literally against my existence? I disrespectfully disagree.
To be fair, if everyone was gay as of today, we'd all be dead in 100 years, therefore we'd all be against our own existence. I can't stand it when a player uses their sexual preference to play a victim. I disrespectfully disagree.
i cant stand it when uneducated people like yourself think like that. they're not bigoted, they are following a book that they've grown up with for their whole life. in a christian view, you are not to judge someone who is a part of that community, but you mustn't practice it, and i believe its similar with islam. i think you're bigoted for not seeing that wider view on others instead of yourself
Most people don’t care that people are gay. They care that they’re jamming it down people’s throats. I don’t care if people are gay at all but am against my past grade school flying the rainbow flag and teaching kids and my daughter that there are 100 genders to choose from.
I think most people are okay with it just when it gets shoved down your throat or you are getting forced to wear it and stuff like that. People with say something I think that’s good thing at the end of the day we are here to watch football 💙

too many people (americans, europeans, everyone) don’t understand that free speach doesn’t mean you can say whatever you want wherever you want to whoever you want. it is the idea that the government cannot prosecute you for your speach assuming it doesn’t constitute a threat. private companies/businesses can allow or ban whatever they please. you can think that’s lame, and i tend to agree that people should be allowed to say what they want and if it’s bad then they can get the backlash they deserve. kinda like the idea of not interupting your enemy as they make themselves sound stupid. people tend to think that being banned from an app for “hate speach” is anti free speach which it is, but that is and always will be allowed under the first ammendment. Many of my fellow Americans don’t realize how lucky they are as in many other countries, you can literally be arrested/charged with a crime for something you said on the internet or wherever
I don't think it's homophobia. People would have the same reaction if every week footballers had to wear a religious symbol or political stripe. And many people view the rainbow as distinctly politically left wing and less so about people's sexual orientation. Imo keep it out of the game and just focus on the football. 👍 (Canadian btw)
I feel like social media has made a lot of things bigger than they need to be, like you’d probably get an article in The Sun or Daily Mail calling it virtue signalling or whatever and maybe someone down the pub having a rant after having one too many. The problem with social media is it can amplify voices that aren’t representative of society as a whole. My personal opinion is each to their own. I’ve always found the whole “woke” thing a bit tedious.
Exactly mate

You actually do choose to be gay. It's an action of sexuality. You can't choose to not be a race or ethnicity.

The way you have commented it seems like you equate LGBTQ for just gay people and it's not that at all. It's not just about homophobia, it's about making all of those who identify as part of the LGBTQ community feel safe and welcome. @@rekzahogk6476 you say that yet you get buffoons who deem it socially acceptable to be racist look at how saka was treated after the 2020 euros, it's gotten progressively worse since then.

Except the stance is not political. The fair treatment of people whether or not you agree with how they live is not political at all.

No obviously I'm not comparing isis to the LGBTQ+ movement. I'm just saying that the people behind the LGBTQ movement are so "anti normal", i.e they want to be celebrated for just being themselves, do weird bdsm bullshit in parades, and pretty much expecting entitlements for just having a different sexuality. This is what annoys most people, and more importantly, most LGBT people who just want to live normally.

That sadly works both ways
If you want proof look at another flag that used to be positive and now within some people inspires negative feelings, the British one
If you spend all your time demonising someone you’ll hate everything that reminds you of them
We’ve gone too far.

How is hasan piker uninformed? I agree with charlie kirk being uninformed but hasan piker makes very informed and detailed points.

'be a good person' isn't on the armband.. it's a rainbow.

It’s simply upon pushing it to everyone should players be forced to wear Islamic air bands to show they aren’t anti Islamic . This is nonsense .
Haram!!!
Love the content, please tell me where the lovely shirts from x
Love all the uploads
You're saying that it's just a rainbow on your arm so it's not a big deal, but yet everyone makes such a big deal when they don't want to put that rainbow on their arm.

6:18 Can we stop judging religious people as if we're angels, just bec someone does one sin doesn't mean it's pointless to stop doing other sins
I think if a player refuses to wear rainbow armbands, they should have to explain their decision at the clubs next LGBTQ committee meeting. If they really believe what they are saying is right, they should have no problem going into a room surrounded by the people they don't support and telling them
Why do footballers own you anything? Who gave you such power just because you desire the same sex as your?
What a garbage take.
@Ligmaballzallthetime I actually think it's a splendid take
The thing is that this only ever seems to happen in football/ soccer, I almost never see or hear the same occurring in day rugby.
They’re not demanding or forcing you to respect it. They don’t have to wear it as it goes against their religion and you can disagree 😂

too many people (americans, europeans, everyone) don’t understand that free speach doesn’t mean you can say whatever you want wherever you want to whoever you want. it is the idea that the government cannot prosecute you for your speach assuming it doesn’t constitute a threat. private companies/businesses can allow or ban whatever they please. you can think that’s lame, and i tend to agree that people should be allowed to say what they want and if it’s bad then they can get the backlash they deserve. kinda like the idea of not interupting your enemy as they make themselves sound stupid. people tend to think that being banned from an app for “hate speach” is anti free speach which it is, but that is and always will be allowed under the first ammendment.
