Congratulations on an excellent, quiet commentary which nicely supported the steady camerawork and gentle pace of exploration. No hype or self aggrandizement! You captured the impressive structure, the sheer scale and feel of the site to perfection. With your lovely assistant providing a useful, mobile measuring stick for the colossal stones and the height of the walls. I found the triangular entrances very interesting. They had not used the more familiar lintel stone except in one single instance. One could imagine the problem with the construction materials themselves. Providing all too many hand and footholds for an invading army.
12:38 Is there a catalogue anywhere of the total volume or weight of rock of all those megalithic constructions of the early antiquity all the way up to historical times? Perhaps also the total weight times the distance the rocks had to be moved? It would be useful for putting in perspective the populations of these ancient civilisations (and perhaps their engineering or planning skills, to a degree). I am assuming that at the time the walls of Tyrins were built, there were no stone carving tools, correct? How did they shape the rocks when they shaped them and what did they use to shape them?
Interesting that the steps up into the ruin at about 3.5 mins looked like they have been adapted for ease of use,on top of what looked like an over sized original stairway that would have been more comfortable for larger people.
My first thought seeing this is, why did they build this. What were they trying to protect themselves from seven thousand years ago, that they needed to begin building such a fortress?
@@vinrusso821yes, and on the exact islands that they were “ attacked and captured “ in the mythology … there were even mammoths stil around on Rangle islands after the pyramids were built…😮 and if you look at an elephant’s skull it looks like a 1 eyed tusk bearing giant… the trunk hole is the “ eye” of these giants… 😮
Maybe that is where they got the impression or idea from mammoth skull and dreamed up the cyclops but 100 percent they did not harness elephant or mammoth to build any megalithic structures all human muscle and ingenuity pulleys and cranes ran by crank
The stone at 8:00 ? Agreed, it would have had a circular wheel like mill stone in the groove and two wooden shafts. One in the center of the base as a pivot, the other through the mill stone, to be driven by an animal most likely. It even has an outflow groove on the edge to collect the oil.
It seemed like some of those walls are partially polygonal with giant stones... I wonder if they're so old it was before they had the technology to make them polygonal 🤔 🤔
Yet another example of ancient humans building something massive, as if the winds were moving at hundreds of miles per hour, constantly. This one seems later than many others, marked by sloppy workmanship we don't see elsewhere, except in in-fill areas. Maybe, the stone masons were stretched too thin, or didn't survive, or, possibly, events did not lend themselves to the builders taking their time to "do it right".
Thank you for sharing video footage from your visit to Mycenaean sites in Greece. Did you visit the site of Gla in the region of Boeotia? What are your thoughts about the walls at site?
The doorways. Pointed to the top. Perhaps an easier way to build. It seems the people who used the structures were not giants. If they were tall they did not have broad shoulders. I have seen smallish thin people do hard physical work. Moving a 1 to 3 ton block over uneven ground/stone must have been very difficult. Yes could use levers and pivots however it seems to position the stone near the edge it'd need to be lifted and supported. The use of levers and dragging the stone could leave marks on the stone. Thanks for releasing the vid.
Now mirko what is your theory on why they built these massive stone structures. Obviously so they lasted the test of time but there is a reason for everything that is done so what do you believe the reason for the way they built this is? and why the strangely built passage ways?
Well, this trip has just ended one month ago and I'm still elaborating. But I've raised a few hypotheses on this documentary of mine about polygonal walls in Italy. You can find it either in episodes on this channel, or as a full documentary here ua-cam.com/video/qV05fF9z1fQ/v-deo.html
Human arrogance. To believe EVERYTHING we find from antiquity is made by humans. Joke and poke fun all you want. The truth is we don't know, without a doubt, who or what constructed these ancient sites. Also yo assume that everything we find is a Tomb, Treasury, or a temple is simply ridiculous. Jmo.
Instead of offending other people's work and ideas, it would be nice to hear your opinions. If it wasn't humans, who was it? And if they were not temples (I rarely consider a place to be a tomb, except when it is absolutely certain) or other places of worship, what were they? Express positive and inspiring ideas, instead of such destructive attitude!!
@StoneRiddles exactly 💯 👏 well said. We need to work together out the brightest minds together in this topic and field. I believe we could figure out why they built these structures the way they did and your correct my friend everything is not a tomb or a temple I would love to know what they are exactly. The thing that really gets my attention are the holy wells they you have explored they blow my mind. There is something about ground water from the earth like it must have healing properties or something like that for them to build them in such an articulate manner. Just curious about all these structures especially the dolmans and things of that nature.
Another awe inspiring construction, love your style . Cheers.
Great video Mirko! I’m so glad I found your channel 👍🏼
Awesome! Thank you!

Thank you for your nice comment, really appreciated!
I enjoyed the tour and commentary. Thanks! 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for sharing. Fascinating content !
That's 😍🤩 amazing..
Thankyou for the video.
👍👌👏
11:20 or previous archaeological restorations!

@5:24 is that a drill hole in the top block there to the right of the gate?
ohhh it could be a saw hole mark. But since the wall has collapsed on the other side, the opposite stone would be downhill someplace?
The wall construction is rather crude when compared to the interlocking polygon blocks at Cassope and Necromanteion

I always wonder where all the stones came from. We’re such massive structures really necessary for protection
The cyclops refer to the skulls of the extinct Mediterranean elephants that may have been harnessed to build these edifices.
Mediterranean elephants 3500 years ago?
In Greek mythological terms a cyclops was a one eyed giant who fed on human flesh.

I best surounding bulidings and towns were built from this place over and over thousands of years.
Reminds me of Kuelap Peru.
Let's not forget that the elite population had access to numerous slaves as well as their own peasantry.
