@@melanietahna So, here it goes. Some spoilers regarding the ending is there, of course. docs.google.com/document/d/1G8CRmPAumkmZxuFw61jvG1ut0QOTrseHPy209H60pUc/edit?usp=sharing
They butcheres the ark of the show. Ang did not water bend once. Every bit of dialogue is repetitive exposition. The cast barely ever spend time together having fun so their relationship to one another feels un earned. They dont go on enough adventures so you dont see people learnikg and using new skills. Also i hated zukos scar it should have been more gorey and bigger. Also rhe writers butchered zukos character making him seem whiney instead of angry about what had happened to him. Will his arc which was the best arch in the animated show gonna be delivered well. I rhink it wont because it was set up so poorly. Ps sorry for the typos mobile keyboard sucks
I have been worried about how the writers would translate all their wacky adventures and there are definitely some plot lines we’re missing out on. It will take some really tight fine tuning to clean that up for the next season for sure. And I have heard a ton of people comment on Zuko’s whining, but honestly that comes off as accurate to me. He was banished during the extreme discomfort of puberty and is only 17 when he finds Aang and his arc begins. For me it just makes sense, because he’s not the villain, his dad is. So his anger is almost funny to us because he’s a sad teenager more than anything.
I just couldn't enjoy it and then eventually grew to dislike it especially the last episode. I just think there are no likeable characters. IMO Aang is boring and wooden, Katara is awful and I thought her line delivery was mainly to blame, Sokka actor just doesn't have comedy chops and his character has nothing redeeming, Zuko is the worst coming off as a weakling incompetent loser with no redeeming traits. I could go on for almost every character but the main vibe I get is that they are all lame. I think undeniably bad acting at times combined with writing where you could cut 80% of the dialogue and not lose anything really weighs it down even further. I swear it would have lines like "he is entering the spirit world *should stop there* that's where you go to a place where the spirits live, by leaving this world and going to theirs, he has to do it to speak to the spirits, the spirits live there" Yeah we got it fam. I think visually the cast is great but if anything this show has shown me that casting for aesthetics is not as important as I would of thought. I really do think I would be fine with changing things if it was interesting, a change that I think illustrates this the most is the opening episode when Aang becomes frozen. I asked my friend who was a first time watcher why Aang was frozen and he misremembered it as the fire nation attacked which caused him to flee and get caught in a storm and drown. This actually didn't happen his memory made that up due to the confusing editing. What actually happened was Aang decided to go for a walk(fly) to think, he then casually fell into the water and froze himself for seemingly no reason, then independently the fire nation attacked. Both of these differ from the original, if the change was what my friend described it would of made more sense been more interesting and I would of been on board. Instead its like they found the least interesting way to do it. On top of that netflix adaptions always have the worst cinematography and editing, just par for the course though. I really thought I was just being a hater but then I went and watched one piece Live Action which has many of the same issues in editing and cinematography but that show is carried by its main actors and seems to have a heart attached to it. Especially in the later episodes where scenes are actually fun and emotional. Things I found Avatar extremely lacked.
@@JoshTruff for sure! Rant away! Honestly I totally see the points you’re making and I recognize where people are going to be disappointed. I really don’t think I blame the actors though, for me it’s largely the writing. There was that entire voice over with Iroh in one episode and I couldn’t figure out why it even was necessary. And I do think the casting wasn’t simply aesthetic, as they wanted to be racially and culturally accurate. At least it’s better than Shyamalan’s adaptation and those kids were white 🤷♀️ and I agree with you about the opening with Aang, and I’d be curious to watch with people who don’t know the original.
I loved it. Maybe they can make an animated adaptation in the future? Wonder how many seasons we'll get. I'm guessing 5?
i love the cartoon and do like the live action Netflix because I feel like it is told more realistically. i loved yue!!!!!
Me too! She was so sweet. My heart has room for both versions!
So yeah, youtube don't want my links to be shared, so do you have any safe or disposable email so I can share link or drop my essay as a text file?

It was fun. Not perfect, but fun! The original is a masterpiece. It wont be adapted perfectly ever. But the new one is cute!
Exactly! Kinda hard to beat the OG
