I saw that Agerola is also a cheaper place to stay. I am staying 2 nights in Ravello and 2 nights in Agerola. What do you think? I found that there is a SITA bus in Agerola that takes you to Naples
Yea that's a great place to stay, I only chose Sorrento because of its connections and it's bars and restaurants. Always do what you think works best for you.
Hello! Another way to combat sea sickness is to stand on the boat and stare at any land you can see to stabilize your eyes and brain. The worst thing you can do is lay down. You need to take the medicine at least 45 min before getting on the boat or it won’t work. The combinado of the medicine and not laying down can help!
I enjoyed your video and I know that naples isn’t for everyone but we spent 3 nights in Napoli and we fell in love with this historic city. Yes, you have to watch out for pick pockets and not make yourself a target (but that is common sense when traveling anywhere). The food was very reasonably priced and delicious! We loved walking through spaccanapoli and the Spanish quarter - even at night - and we felt safe. We toured the underground city and the Napoli museum as well. We had a phenomenal time there. Yes it’s noisy and hectic with the scooters driving up and down the alleyways but this craziness was a big part of the town’s charm. I definitely recommend taking a street food walking tour! Forza Napoli sempre!!!
Little budget tip, Minori is on Amalfi coast well connected, and you can find cheaper hotels there than in Sorrento, also i booked two night there and other nights in Agerola( which was around 200$ per person for 6 days!) very cheap and also the bus is well connected. I would also suggested Salerno, town on opposite side of Amalfi, its well connected and cheaper, has supermarkets, bars, restaurants, little less touristy than Sorrento
This is by far the most useful video about the Amando coast I watched. So many gems in here. I watched so many useless videos videos before I got to this.

@@jacklawsontravel thank you so much for getting back to me! Yeah, I actually do have a question for you. I was looking at hotels and found some affordable ones in Furore and Agerola? Planning a trip to Amalfi, Sorrento area in 2nd week of May. Flying into Naples from Mykanos. I am so so so Happy that I bumped into your video that was EXTREEEEEMLY helpful with all kinds of tips, do's and dont's, Vegetarian food options (me being a veg very comforting to hear). The Best travel tip video for this area I ever seen and makes my planning all the more easier. Thank you SO VERY MUCH Sir and instantly subscribed to your channel and looking forward to more tips on your travel experience. You are my new Rick Steves for travel advice.
Thankyou for this great video. One thing that I think needs mentioning is that, when a train ticket has been bought, it needs to be 'validated' in a machine on the train station, otherwise the traveller without a validated ticket could be fined €200 if caught by the conductor checking tickets on the train. We were warned about this by our Italian car mechanic before we went to Sicily this year, and it was a very valuable piece of info that our travel agent never mentioned. I don't understand why the ticket has to be validated, as it has the travel info on it already, as in, date, destination etc, but Apparantly the validation is to stop traveller's pulling a fast one and using their tickets on other days without paying. I presume that there must be tickets that don't have dates etc already printed on for this rule to be in place, otherwise it doesn't make sense. Anyway, VALIDATE YOUR TICKETS FOLKS, to avoid being fined!
One of the most informative videos I have ever watched about the Amalfi coast. very very useful and also entertaining! keep it up and thank you very much!
Yes this the boat you can see in the video. It's really easy to buy tickets on the day but you can buy in advance if you want. Ticket Price: from EUR 14.70 to EUR 18.30.
A lot of my recommendations weren't vegan restaurants they just had vegan options. So Enjoy The Little Things in Sorrento is a great small restaurant the Carbonara particularly is great!
Hi jack , your video was so helpful , I actually watched twice to help me navigate when we go to Amalfi coast end of March, we are family of 6. You gave everything I needed , keep it going mate !
Thank you! Train is the quickest and cheapest way to get to Sorrento from Rome. You'll need to catch a train to Naples then switch there for a train to Sorrento.
Stumbled upon your video and it's perfect for my upcoming trip! Thank you! I and my mum are traveling from Thailand to Naples in early June for business and I'm planning 3-4 days trip after the work is done. My plan is similar to yours but may be less walking for my poor mum's knees lol. I plan to base in Sorrento and take day-trip to Amalfi coast towns by ferry. Hope we wont get bad sea sick though. I will be considering going to Pompeii from Sorrento as well because I also don't want to stay too many night in Naples. While in Naples I plan to visit some castles, churches, and archeology museum + pizzas of course! 😄😄😄
Oh sounds like an amazing trip! Pompeii is a must see. Remember when you land in Naples there's a bus that can take you to the main train station where you can catch a train to Sorrento. Always be careful in Naples it's not as wealthy as other parts of Italy so it's good to be on your guard. Make sure you visit the Pizzeria I mentioned in the video. It's amazing!
Fantastic video , definitely the best I have seen for visiting this area , its full of useful information , just what we were looking for, thank you so much. I cant find the link , showing where to buy the tickets for Pompeii in advance , can you help please ?

Really helpful video mate. Iv taken your recommendation and staying in sorrento as our base. Planning to visit coastal towns from their. One Question About what is the best way to go from the airport to the train station
I assume you mean to getting to Naples train station from the airport. I believe I cover that in this video, there's a bus that runs from airport straight to the Naples Train station. From there you get a train to Sorrento. Sorrento is the end of the line so you can't miss it.
Yes Salerno is a great place to stay, with a lot of history especially from WW2. The reason why i didn't stay here was that it was more difficult to get to from Naples Airport. So the money saved on hotels can sometimes be counterbalanced by the cost to get there if that makes sense?
Sorrento is one of the most expensive places in Italy & Europe to stay in !!! Napoli is cheapest !! And that is not a cable car goes to the top on Capri ..it's a funicular ! 💜🥁🐉🎤💞
Well the Amalfi Coast is an expensive area to visit and for those who want to stay in the Amalfi Coast Sorrento is the most cost effective. Certainly when you compare it to Positano, Capri and Amalfi etc. While Naples in cheaper than Sorrento if you want to stay near the Amalfi Coast it's just too far away. It's 50 minutes on the train just to Sorrento which is just too far if you want a holiday in the Amalfi Coast. Even though it's one of the most expensive areas to go, I still got a hotel for there for 4 days for £138 per person which I think is a great price for the area. So you can do within a budget which is what my video is all about :)
Hi! First of all, thanks for this amazing info! I would like to take my drone with me (249gr), but I am afraid this is a windy place so.. any thoughts? :) Also did you or someone find any place to let your belongs (drone included) when at beach? Thanks in advance!
Thank you! It can be windy but it's all weather dependant like anywhere else. Yes most beaches are private so you hold these in lockers, plus there's some bag drop offs in most towns where you store your things.
Wow, this is by far the best UA-cam video about traveling to the Amalfi Coast! Question: I pulled up the bus schedule online and saw that the last departure from Positano to Sorrento leaves around 9 pm which is still pretty early in the evening. Do you know if most businesses close around that time? Or better yet, do you know if the ferry/water taxi operates longer hours for those who wish to stay in Positano later at night? THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Glad you found it helpful! If I honest i'm not sure. I know there is a water taxi but this is dependant on weather. This website should give you all the information you need www.positano.com/. If you want to stay late though you could always look into getting a private transfer.
Hi Jack, great video thanks. Thinking of going to Rome next February then calling into the Amalfi for 4 to 5 days. My question to you is because it is so early in the season are we going to see the best of the Amalfi or will we be disappointed. I know it would be great to see the sights and getting around and cheaper but a bit concerned we will not see it at it's best. What do you think. ?
Thanks for the kind words. It all depends on what you want to see. Although it will be a cheap time to visit the maximum temperature would be around 14c on average and you may see a lot of rain. Personally the best time of year to visit this region is around September. You're out of peak season but the weather is still great and the sea is at its warmest if you want to swim.
renting a scooter is the best solution to visit the Amalfi coast, there are free parking spaces but few of them, and especially in the summer months it is practically impossible to find, in May or September you shouldn't have any problems, the other option I recommend is to use public transport, such as buses or ferries, tickets are cheap and you don't have to worry about having to drive or find parking, the only downside of public transport is that it can always be crowded, and especially in the summer it can happen to be left behind and having to wait for the next ride
Hello Jack Thank you so much for this video. This is the best video about the Amalfi Coast I have came across until now. Kudos to your work. I am visiting Italy this Mid September with my wife and two kids for 10 days trip. Can you provide your feedback about 10 days will be sufficient to cover all this destinations? Thanks in advance! Day-1 Landing in Rome. Day-2 to 4: Rome Day-5 and 6: Naple local food (Famous pizza) and other attractions Day-7: Sorrento Day-8,9: Positano, Capri and Amalfi Cost Day-10 Return to Rome
Thank you! For me I wouldn't spend more than half a day in naples. For me it is not a very nice city, it's run down and doesn't have much to offer. I would go to it just get a pizza and then that's it. I would instead say spend some time in Pompeii, it's an incredible place or if that's not your cup of yea just spend more time in the Amalfi coast. you'd need a day at least just for Capri and you can easily spend a day in Positano. Other than that it looks great!
@@jacklawsontravel Thank you so much for your feedback. Another question: Do you think 3 days are too much for Rome and Vatican and I should go to Florence for 2 days instead and then proceed to Naples?
All comes down to what time of year you're travelling, as you can only get ferries from Naples to Amalfi at peak times of the year but you should be able to get to Sorrento from Naples most times of the year. Personally I like to avoid the ferries if possible due to rough seas can be pretty common, but it's all down to personally choice.
Hi Jack. First of all, thanks so much for this video. VERY informative and useful. Wife and I, and our 4 year old son are planning to visit Amalfi Coast on the 1st week of October. We are heavily considering your tip to make Sorrento as our 'base' to visit the sites. We are not a 'hiking' couple so places like the Path of the Gods would be out. It really more of a relaxing trip. No plans really to swim as it maybe too cold by then but we may just try to take a dip while in Sorrento. Any advise on the place to stay in Sorrento? Is a day tour to Positano and Amalfi (1 day) by bus advisable as we may not really explore the inner parts of those places due to the walking.
Ok great! Sorrento is a great place to stay, I stayed at the Hotel Rivoli Sorrento, which was good for the price, and in a great location! If you're going to the Amalfi Coast you must see Positano and Amalfi, they're stunning places. The towns aren't that big either so don't worry about a lot of walking, there are a lot of steps though.
We have just booked a lovely Airbnb in Salerno but now wondered if we should change to Sorrento? Travelling in Sept and will have option for airport pickup. Will be Opposite ferry terminal for island tours etc. Any other tips please. Fantastic & helpful video! Thank you...🔆🌏
Thanks for the kind words! I haven't stayed in Salerno so I can't comment on but from what I know it's well connected. The links in the description of the video should help! For me you make sure you do the Path of the Gods, it's a stunning walk and take some boat trips to see the coast line from the water.
Awesome video. I am planning to stay in Amalfi Coast for 4 nights. I will be coming from and back to Rome. Wouldn't Salerno be a better base from cost and connectivity perspective? I will anyway not have much time except dinnertimes to explore the base town.
Great information, thank you Jack! The link to the cheap tkts is not working! Also, please let me know if you know an economic and safe way to travel from Athens to Naples.

I am visiting Italy this Mid September with my wife and two kids for 10 days trip. Can you provide your feedback about 10 days will be sufficient to cover all this destinations? Thanks in advance!
Day-1 Landing in Rome.
Day-2 to 4: Rome
Day-5 and 6: Naple local food (Famous pizza) and other attractions
Day-7: Sorrento
Day-8,9: Positano, Capri and Amalfi Cost
Day-10 Return to Rome
@@living4foodntravel no 3 days is Rome is a good amount of time. 100%! you Florence is definitely worth seeing more than Naples!
Can a wheel chair be used
Hi, thanks for the video :)
could you recommend other transport options from getting from Naples airport to Positano other than taxi/car?
thank you!
As I said in the video the cheapest way is to get the bus from Naples airport to the main rail station, then get a train from there to Sorrento.
Any good restaurants that also offer gluten-free pasta? Traveling with someone who’s allergic to gluten.
Yes there's a few, in Sorrento: Frankie's Pizza Bar Sorrento Brunch & Vegan, La Fenice and Fuoro
@@jacklawsontravel thank you.
hey. What about a ferry from naples --> Amalfi coast (positano, amalfi etc.)?
Whats ur view on that
All comes down to what time of year you're travelling, as you can only get ferries from Naples to Amalfi at peak times of the year but you should be able to get to Sorrento from Naples most times of the year.
@@jacklawsontravel thank you!
Is the hotel you refer to as Hotel Sorrento the Hotel Sorrento City?
No it's Hotel Rivoli Sorrento 😊
Is October an OK time to go?
You can get some great weather in Early October
thank u!
Glad I could help!
Awesome video. I am planning to stay in Amalfi Coast for 4 nights. I will be coming from and back to Rome. Wouldn't Salerno be a better base from cost and connectivity perspective? I will anyway not have much time except dinnertimes to explore the base town.
Yes in my opinion Sorrento is the best base for cost and connections to other parts of the region
@@jacklawsontravel I hope you meant Salerno there :)
@@ADthehawk No I meant Sorrento. It's closer to Rome than Solerno, but I haven't been there so I can't comment on it as an option if i'm honest.
This is awesome I feel like I have been prepared for my trip🥰💃🏾🤍
Great ☺
Do you recommend going to Italy via a travel agent or visiting independently?
I'd always recommend going independently when ever you can. You'll save a lot of money and you can plan the trip exactly the way you want to.
Hi.. is capri best to stay overnight or is a day trip sufficent ? ❤
Day trip was enough for me personally
@@jacklawsontravel thanks
Nepalese Pizza 😏😏😏
Great information, thank you Jack! The link to the cheap tkts is not working! Also, please let me know if you know an economic and safe way to travel from Athens to Naples.
Oh thanks for letting me know, I've now updated that link so you can view it if you want. The best way to get to Naples from Athens is to fly. I think on average the cost is £39, if you need help finding a cheap price let me know!
To experience the Amalfi coast , is Sorrento too far?
Not at all, this is where I based myself and had a great time. For me it was the best place to base yourself due to the connections it had.
Can you tell me what flight you took?
I took a flight from London Heathrow to Naples with British Airways
The ferry to capri is 25 euros pp each way now😅
Hello Jack. Thank you for the detailed information. A quick question: how bad (if any) is the pick-pocketing situation in the area?
I personally didn't experience any, but like any busy tourist destination, always be aware. For me I found it a super safe and friendly part of Italy.
@@jacklawsontravel Great. Thanks so much for the speedy response! Best of luck to your channel.
@@zhenli2345 Thank you!
I forgot to ask what hotel did you stay at in sorrento?
I stayed at Hotel Rivoli Sorrento, it's right in the heart of Sorrento.
What time of the year did you go?
I went in late September
Caaap -ri
sorrento is not the cheapest at all lol
in my experience, it is when comparing to other places in the area.
Where do you think is the cheapest?
You look vegan
That's interesting because I'm not vegan.
