I'm actually more fascinated at the fact they managed to fit a B&M Invert of all things in there and make it look like it's been there before. Huge props.
Monster really surprised me beacuse I didn't knew how the ride would feel in terms of forces. But I really liked that it was not focused on intensity and wippy elements compared to some of the older models. This is definitely a unique inverted coaster by the ride himself, but also by how it has been implemented, Gröna Lund did a great job at creating this ride !
Well objectively speaking, the fact that the roller coaster is different compared to other B&M roller coasters because it is forceless and because it lacks really strong and interesting elements does not make it in any way unique (in a good way) and thus automatically good. In my opinion 8/10 is simply too big of a rating. Even though B&M managed to build it into this very small space, it doesn't mean that the ride itself is 8/10 good.
@@maxhagenauer24 if that was the case, I would've not rank Untamed, Wildfire or Ride To Happiness REALLY HIGH on my ranking (which are intense to my knowledge) I juste like that some coasters give a different feeling than some others of the same model
Thank you, someone, agreed with me that roller coasters are fun I love the wip on steel vengeance and maverick but god bless the raptor that b&m needs retracted I love intense roller coasters but with head banging if I want a headache I would go on rougarou instead of a raptor because that doesn’t justify giving you a headache but it feels like your head is in a blender the hole time
I almost feel like this layout would be better as a flying coaster. Not that it’s bad as an invert, it’s just so graceful like it’s trying to give you that feeling of flying and I feel like that gracefulness along with the flying all around grona lund would be so cool as a flyer and thinking about it I kinda wish they would’ve went that route
Having taken a few days to think about it...yes, I absolutely agree. It wouldn't have robbed the park of a suspended coaster in the sitting position either, given they have a Vekoma suspended coaster in the park. They tried to get a loop kept for years but I really think coaster type should've definitely been reconsidered when that got removed from the layout efforts, and it would've actually made it more unique to the park itself as well. Still hardly not a good coaster, but yep, in 100% agreement a B&M flyer would've been the way to go here.
This was my opinion from the beginning, and I think a flying coaster would also fit into Grönan's lineup better, as they already have another invert and another semi-thrill coaster, with some other glaring holes in their lineup. Apparently they wouldn't have been able to operate a flying coaster, though, because of the weather in Sweden. Monster is very reliable when it comes to operating it in the rain and is pretty much the last ride to close for poor weather conditions, and the mechanisms required on each seat in a flying coaster wouldn't allow for that. That is the reason I read somewhere online sometime last year, I'm not sure if it's true or who said it, though it seems very likely. What is true, though, is that Monster is a reliability beast as it stands.
as a roller coaster enthusiast the first drop of the coaster is pretty banked as a regular roller coaster wich wouldn't feel good for a flying coaster for many reasons, and you might say that they could just make a less banked and less steep drop, but no, they really don't have any soace to work at here. I rid this coaster and it fits perfect for a b&m invert
I just think Grona Lund is amazing at how well they can make the atmosphere at their park feel. The energy at that park is always so amazing and this ride really helps because it is always flying over you.
This is a great example of a coaster in it’s context, where the circumstances around it’s very existence really matters! This just fits in Grona Lund, if it wasn’t for the ride experience obviously being new gen B&M I could’ve believed that it was a older ride
This. I think that 8/10 is a bit too much for this coaster. I would give it 6.5/10 at max, simply because it was very forceless, and it didn't offer good variety of interesting elements. Sure, they managed to put this thing to this park, but I feel like it doesn't justify the 8/10 rating.
The floaty elements are cool, don't get me wrong, but I hope that not all B&Ms are like that and that there will still be whippy ones like the old school ones.
I agree that it's REALLY worth appreciating when parks go out of their way to make newer additions look/feel like they've always been there. You don't often see that anymore even at really big budget parks like Disney/Universal.
so it was my first time today i rode it and it was amazing. ive been scared of coasters even if im a coaster nerd. But now i feel that im not scared anymore so this coaster will have a special place in my heart.
Monster’s aesthetic is the Paris Metro. From the stairs at the entrance, to the signage, font, tile walls, etc. The station itself represents a metro station.
@@CoasterStudios Yeah IIRC the theme is that theres a literal monster residing in a disused subway station that once had trains between the park and the city. Don't quote me on it though. But that would also be why you see those vintage posters, made to look like old school advertisements for the park.
great video, i think you were very fair with this ride! you missed one of the large supports though after the first corkscrew on the right which makes 4! ahaha
If you showed this coaster to anyone that doesn't know Gröna Lund, they would think the coaster came first and they fit in the paths and buildings around it and under it, but when you tell them it's the other way around...
Idk I’ve been on every invert layout in the US minus Silver Bullet and I think Banshee is the most forceful by far? Like the most positive G heavy but not whippy like the old ones
If you have the footage, a part two would be awesome of how they weaved the ride and supports in and around buildings and pathways. Seems like the extreme version of SheiKra's support in the BBQ restaurant. Engineering nerds like myself and El Toro Ryan would appreciate it.
Nemesis remains the gold standard of compact B&Ms. I doubt it will ever be bested (even by its own rebuilt version in 2024). But out of all the compact B&Ms in small parks at Scandinavian capitals, Monster is the best.
Actually, the station is more made to resemble a metro station (because it is underground). The "Monster" entry sign is based off vintage signs from the Paris Metro
this may sound weird, but i dont think vests would hinder the rides too much, because inverts are not airtime based, they are made for inversions so that's why i wonder why people do not like vests on inverts
I don't think its that people don't like vests on inverts, I think a lot of people are just not a fan of B&M's vest design, period. They can be pretty restricting on the body. People prefer a more freeing feeling.
I have the exact same thoughts about monster. I was kinda underwhelmed when i rode it last year in september. I loved the first drop, but the rest of the ride was kinda boring. I also liked it more in the front. I had one night ride on it in the front row, that was my favourite. But i'm not a big fan of b&m inverts in general, i rode black mamba & nemesis inferno and wasn't a big fan of them either. Still a very smooth and good looking ride, just not a stand out rollercoaster imo. But maybe i have to go back and ride it again!
Like someone else pointed out, I'm pretty sure the theming of Monsters station is supposed to be a disused subway station. Also you really called Jetline a family coaster? 💀That ride was the signature thrill coaster of the park for several decades and one of the largest coasters in all of the Nordics when it was built.
I personally found Monster to be more forceful than Jetline. The drop, Jr. Immelmann and turn after the first corkscrew all packed great Gs on my two visits, plus some other moments with force, whereas Jetline only ever had two moments of noteworthy positive forces for me. Both are great rides, though! 🤩 I also prefer Monster to Black Mamba... like a psycho 🤣
I prefer Old B&M, I feel they've kind of lost their touch and are getting outclassed by Intamin and RMC in the thrills department. I want to see a world class looper like Kumba or Montu open and wow enthusiasts like Velosicoaster, Gwazi and SteVe have.
I rode Fujiyama a month before riding Monster and the cringe was real when I heard the speaker voice calling it "The King of Coasters". So much, in fact, that it tainted my impression of the ride itself. It's fine though. But I can't imagine that it would be a "better version of Banshee". Banshee looks much more like my cup of tea with the longer layout, more height and a loop. Monster was too 'twist and turn' for me. I enjoyed the more sustained turns the most because my favourite part of any invert is to get pulled outwards. That's why I miss those loops.
I find it unfortunate that the newer ones are not going to be as intense, yes it's better for the general public because they want graceful but it defeats the purpose of these rides, they are suppose to be for people who want intensity.
This way I don’t want to become a coaster enthusiast you guys are so picky on forces when I live with kings island well I haven’t been since Orion but still, b&m is better with new generation because raptor sucks it’s ruff, and bad I would care if cedar point asked b@m to our vest harness on they need to retract it with a new b&m track or if they need to get rid of it I love you new b&m at least I’m not picky I love all forces negative and positive. Hang time doesn’t matter to me as long as the roller coasters are good that said something to me this is why I have a nerve because I am like a roller coaster physiatrist I love roller coasters but if I have to be picky with forces and say oh old Vietnam is better but there’s a Ross now I can’t even compare to banshee yeah you guys I don’t want to become like that. I’m better off sticking with my own opinions in that’s that I think well I have a burn on Monstera because I can’t travel across the damn world because I’m not rich but you know if I could kill red on the monster, I wouldn’t even care if it’s not intense and if you don’t like me. If you go away, I Love new b&m

This reminds me of how Knotts was able to weave Silver Bullet into its location and still provide a surprisingly potent ride in tight quarters
isn’t the station subway themed? The entrance is in the same style as the dragonfly metro entrances in Paris. I could be completely wrong though 😅
And there’s posters of transit advertisements in the loading area. It definitely gave Paris Metro vibes to me. Not “movie theater”
