If you haven't yet, please please please check out Magus of the Library. It's honestly super underrated and criminally unknown outside of Japan. It has amazing art and tackles a lot of interesting themes, like racism/discrimination, gender roles/equality, and, in my personal opinion, it has the potential to become one of the best fantasy manga ever.

i agree, it's not one to rush through. a very worthwhile read, i just selfishly wish the volumes came out more frequently

It's been forever since I've read ACOTAR, but it's a fun time and became popular for a reason, I get the reluctance about voicing positive opinion about the series, but it's just fun!! I don't remember much other than enjoying the books so no critical review from me, but I do remember thinking the last book was way too long and I was just happy to be done with it at the end. I thought the change of love interests was interesting? I feel it was uncommon at the time (not sure how common it is now, starting these long fantasy series take out so much from me that I don't read a lot). I have watched a lot of like flame reviews and I do agree with a lot of the criticism thrown at the series, but I think you can recognize the flaws in a series yet enjoy your time with it.
Also the Day6 comeback was soo good! They always deliver!!

i agree, the series was a great quick read to get me out of my reading slump. i'll talk about the third book in my april log and i also thought it was too long. that's when i started seeing more issues with plot holes and such but overall i'm glad i read it!
and yes omg the album has been on repeat for me TT sad ending is my fave song

Can't wait for season 3 of Alice in Borderland. As I understood the new season will have a new material after the manga, so we'll see how it goes.

oooo! curious to see then. i wonder if the mangaka had any involvement? in looking it up it seems like there is a short sequel manga so i wonder if it will be based off that

Book clubs are so fun! We have a horror/scfi book club here at the library I work in and it's so fun discussing good/bad books because it varies from person to person. Like the last book we read was so interesting until the ending in my opinion. It blended thriller, drama and horror well but my one issue was the ending.
The book we read was called "Near the Bone" if anyone is interested.
**TW: Domestic Abuse, Gore, Kidnapping, SA, Violence**
K-Pop in March was decent. Loved Wendy's comeback - didn't care for her debut either, glad she went a direction that suited her much better. Vermilion was my favorite off that album but like you I enjoyed the entire project. ILLIT'S debut was also fun, Magnetic is stuck on repeat. I do hate how short songs are becoming in K-Pop now though. a 9 minute album is ridiculous.

The only manga i read in march was Flying Witch Volume 12 and i loved it ♥ It's still one of my favorite manga because it's so cozy and wholesome ^-^
I'm still debating if i should read ACOTAR or not, since i'm not a huge fan of spice and have heard the series has a lot of it.

    • @amandak.4246

i have been waiting so long for this volume of flying witch, yay! that's why i have no interest in acotar.

    • @tsukkinotes

nice! and yes there are spicy scenes but i think it depends on your tolerance for it? i read quite a bit of romance so i’m not really fazed by it. my coworkers were pretty scandalized by the amount of spice and they were faster at reading than me and were like warning me lol. the scenes were more funny to me but i can see wanting to stay away from the series for that reason. i am surprised it is advertised as young adult though …

If you arrange Alice in Borderland in ascending order on a shelf there is a cool message in itself where you could see the light rays (that appears as firework in the games ..more would lead to spoilers) hitting the city

Interesting opinion on ACOTAR! Thank you so much for sharing since I was on the fence on this hahaha. Hearing about your opinion on these works actually help me decide on whether or not to pick them up 😆
If you'd like to try another novel series, I recommend The Selection ☺ IMO, the world building is so great. No fairies and such. Some political themes as well. But the world really was the selling point for me. It was so new for me since I read it in hs.

thanks for the recommendation!! and overall the acotar books were fun in my opinion, i listened to the audiobooks through my library so i would suggest looking into that if you don't want to invest physically!

Personally i will never read anything from sjm because of her post on breonna taylor and how she used her death to promote her book. She also a zionist and support the idf. And when it comes to her actual books have a lot of problems with playing into sterotype of different groups of people. I just wanted to let you know because i think it important to let people know about authors behavior so it doesn't hurt people.

If you have time can you expand on the transphobia and attempted rape in Alice in Borderland? Sounds interesting but I want to see what those triggers are about

    • @tsukkinotes
      @tsukkinotes  6 місяців тому +1

there is a trans character in aib and honestly i think she is a great character and it is good representation. she is disowned by her father though for this reason which i would say is the most potentially triggering thing and i believe there are a couple jokes thrown at her expense about her manliness between friends and she takes it in good humor. rape is attempted twice in the manga and both instances are pretty unsettling. it is between the same characters both times. a villain type and the main characters love interest. i think the extent is her clothes almost coming off but the intent is clear and gross. hope that was enough detail 😅 these are very small parts of the story though, just want to make sure all the warnings are covered
