Goosebumps. This song, that solo by Vai, the sound of everyone, the crowds appreciation that night, it was just so unbelievably incredible. Thanks for capturing this I was so enthralled and couldn't even think about recording it! But I did Vancouver, and I think this song and that night made me go! So great!
How Steve has been evolving his solo over the various performances of the Beat Tour? Just astonishing. He is a legit guitar god. I told myself I was going to wait until I get to see them in person, here, in my city. But I haven't been able to take my eyes off them since Day One of the tour. And Vai has been brilliant since that first day, but is also refining and upping his performances EVERY TIME. This version of his solo for Sheltering Sky is exceptional and amazing and such a masterful evolution of his solo on the first gig! That was enough for me, that first time. But for him to keep evolving it, and expanding and improving on it? Totally blown away by this Maestro of his instrument.
I was there too. That Steve Vai solo might have actually changed my personality, life philosophy and life goals for my final years. I've never been more entertained by watching guitarists. And Adrian has long been my fave rock 'n' roller period.
Thanks for posting! This was such a highlight of the show... Vai's solo was something out of this world. Honestly, the entire second set was one of the best concert experiences I've had in a long time. Opening with Waiting Man into this track was such a mindblower.
Well we know they saved the more exciting material for the 2nd set! Damn did this show deliver! I appreciate your comments on my post. It is my pleasure to post this for all to appreciate. Mark
Great video, fantastic sound - especially Tony’s sinister bass lines. Such an organic song: Danny the heatbeat, Tony the spine, Adrian the brain and Steve the soul.
Thanks for your positive comments. I try hard to bring the performance to all the people who did not get to see it live. This tour is likely one of the best shows for the past several years. Mark
I went to see/listen to Beat last night near Pittsburgh. What a great show ! Really fantastic. One of my favorites line ups that was just exploding with talent and sound scapes. My favorite x brother in law and I both enjoyed the shows. We used to listen to discipline by King Crimson when our kids were little over 30 years ago.
heck, i too but more like 40 years ago. The 3 albums are so cutting edge even today. I am so glad that Adrian and Tony found a way to bring it back to us seasoned fans as well as all of the new fans that are finding this today! Mark
I love this version as well. BUT..... I, with my friends also saw these original shows in 1981 to 1984 with Robert Fripp & Bill Bruford. Those shows were every bit as amazing and you must consider that those additional two helped write the music. But believe, I am soooo happy to see this performance and one again, see these guys recreate the MAGIC. So I send thanks to your comments. Mark
I saw this song live with King Crimson in 1982. This version stands up very well against it. Thanks go out to Robert Fripp and Beat for allowing these videos on this platform. I had tickets to Charleston but life chose a different weekend for me. So again, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
my reaction is the same. When i saw the original show in the early 80's, my friends in a band called "Art in America" opened for KC. Their 2nd set opened with this song. Bill came out with a wooden box and and he continued to tap on it for the full song without skipping a beat.
Vai!!! I saw this a couple weeks ago in DC, and have watched many videos of this song from other shows and Vai's solo is always different but always amazing, just letting it rip!!!
I've talked to Tony about this and I can say that he and Adrian both watch the solos of Steve and Dave just as if they were fans watching a show themselves. I can tell you that all 4 are really enjoying themselves. Mark
I wish i could shoot these shows with multiple cameras like King Crimson did on their last tour themselves. They had hidden cameras pointing at each artist so that they could mix the show after the fact. I just have one cell phone (Samsung S23 Ultra) so it is hard to move from person to person in an attempt to catch each critical phrasing of the song. I know them and as such tried to jump around when needed but I can also tell you that sometimes Robert's parts were played by Steve and other times, Adrian played them. I still think I captured the soul of the show. Mark
@@ChampippleD I agree, the sound was actually very clean and although I had ear plugs, I NEVER PUT THEM IN. I wanted to take this all in as best as I could (even though I was distracted just trying to shoot the whole show knowing that I will see it several more times). Mark
I saw Beat in Cleveland, and The Sheltering Sky was the highlight of the show. I've watched other performances from their tour on YT, and see that they change it up on every performance. Vai's playing is great, but his extended solo gets away from the original mood of the song. Too fast and pyrotechnic for the laid-back vibe.

Tony told me that Steve plays it differently every show! Tony & Adrian watch his solo just as fans do! But all 4 of them have chops!!!! Mark

omg - I too came here to say this - the first comment
pls come to Europe!

same same in DC and RVA, each solo was different, and yet perfect, at both venues, and yes, as good as the 1st part was, the second set was amazing
That Vai solo was one of the greatest feats of musicianship I have ever seen seen up close. So glad to hear it again.
Steve is incredible, incredible
I've seen many BEAT videos. This is the best I have seen yet.
Thanks. I appreciate it. I also just posted the Detroit show although i was much farther back. Mark
I was 4th row "D". Unbelievable show. Thanks for capturing it so well.
thanks for the positive comments. It is not easy to shoot a whole show. Mark

Thanks. I appreciate that! I shoot the show with love to the performace. Mark
Fantastic analysis
This is mind-blowingly awesome! Vai's solo brought goosebumps on my goosebumps! Great sound quality, too. Thanks for posting!

UNBELIEVABLE!!! GOING SUNDAY IN DETROIT!!!
did you see that I posted the Detroit show as well? Mark

What an incredible show and this song in particular was amazing. Thank you so much for sharing with us.
Thanks, means a lot to me for your kind words
I feel this is now the definitive version of the song

@@1edarnold Yes I too saw it back in the 80's. Yes thanks to Robert for allowing these to remain on youtube.
Me encantaría haber podido estar allí !!!
Masterful. An incredible show.
Sound mix is 10x better than in the balcony.
Super Wow!!!

i think he is kind of adaptating to what these songs require, this is truly amazing, this music has waited to much time to be played the way intended

Saw them in Moncton. What a show.
Yes, every moment is very special! Thanks, Mark
Thanx 4 sharing❤
my pleasure
Saw them at The Egg Monday night 10/21. 1st set was good but second blew me the fucking away, especially The Sheltering Sky, WOW
Playing in Hartford, CT 12/3. You have to see this, good chance will see them again
I agree, the 2nd set takes this show to a whole new level! Mark
@@johnabrahamstreeter7398 Agree that this is one of the tours that requires multiple views
😮❤wooooe🎉💥🤟🏻
says it all, Mark
Tony _literally_ playing two parts on the Stick!
and sometimes in different time signatures! mark
@TheSwid1 The man is a machine!
I like to find out who does every sound i loved from this song/opera.

Interesting how Tony sounds like he's playing 2 instruments-- tapping out rhythm while doing his bass phrases.

I was there, and that sound seemed to swirl around in a way that made my skin goosebump.

Tremendous performances, on this tour though I must say that Belew has lost his edge.
