Funniest part in gears lore that I remember is that the lancer blade was made to aid soldiers in clearing wood and debree in tbe field without needing to bring extra equipment for it. Soldiers are also specifically told not to use them in combat because the blood and bone shards from an enemy would likely fly right into the users face and body Edit: Ok to clarify the lancer is also meant for killin locust, BUT it's only meant to do so when wearing full armor and a helmet to prevent debris and bone from injuring the user. Only problem is none of the main protagonists actually properly wear their armor
The Lancers chainsaw was developed by Adam Fenix after Marcus went to use a Retro Lancer blade on a locust and it snapped off. Marcus then grabbed a nearby circular saw and cut up the locust, leading Marcus to ask his Dad to put chainsaws on lancers.

That's why the Retro Lancer existed before they decide to upgrade it to combat the Locust/Grubs. The tough hide of the ground dwelling enemy was much thicker than most armored humans. The osmium blade on the Retro Lancer was not sufficient enough to pierce the hide of the Locust
@@Elitesolider1023 gameplay balancing is why it makes sense. Imagine playing as the locust and you can retro stab cog characters but they can’t retro stab you. Kind of defeats the purpose of a balanced multiplayer
@@d3th_2_all I can imagine the reason why in the games were able to puncture the locust is because the retro lancer requires great amount of strength to retro charge one let alone swipe at the fuckers with a simple melee attack if your not strong enough it's going to break upon hitting a grub through I could imagine it working more easily on lambent since the host body is decaying as the parasite further infects the body swarm on the hand don't know don't care since those games I don't consider Canon since thier stories suck.
If I remember correctly Serra has greater gravitational force over the planet which is why everyone is beefy in GOW. This could allow them to shoot larger calibers and take a few more rounds to kill many of the giant creatures there.
In my opinion, the chainsaw runs the wrong way, if it were running back to front, it would be able to push your enemy in front of your barrel, which is normally a much dangerous place to be

People seems to forget that the humans of Sera are MUCH bigger then humans here at Earth. We are pretty much the size of the females +- of the Sera. If you look at the ending of Gears 3 when Marcus and Anya are holding hands, you see Marcus hand are like 4x times larger then Anya's. also they are augmented as well. The snub pistol is a .50 Cal. and clearly marked with .50 Cal and not .50 AE. There are a reason why the mags are in front of the trigger and not in the pistol grip like .50 AE are on Dessert Eagle. All the weapons are MUCH bigger then people think they are. same goes to the calibers. And remember that they are wearing armor a 7.62 bullet simply do not penetrate and the Locust skins are very rock hard. So hard that some humans struggle to stab a Locust with their bayonet blades. This is also why the Calibers are so big in Gears of War.
Not with the rates of fire that we're seeing. 7.62 NATO seems about correct for the damage output of the gun in-game compared to most every other firearm
as a note in lore the standard locusts skin is stated to be stabbed proof with the exception of charging it with a spear or bayonet and even then it might not be enough and is the reason why gears use the chainsaw bayonet for the same reason you would use it cutting through a tree you can't stab through the tree you have to saw through it
Funny enough you actually see the animation account for the Locust having thick skin in the retro lancer charge kill, they don't just impale the locust they use gravity to actually do the work of penetrating their hide to lethal amounts.

@@FrenchLightningJohn this is true I was meaning in function sawing through it but since it is a flash that is a incredibly tough hide you have to change the design of the teeth and the function of the saw to be able to saw through the Flash and clothes instead of wood it's an example of modifying or taking inspiration of a tool and turning it into a weapon much like the war scythe, nunchucks, the flail except it's turning a chainsaw that would cut trees into a bayonet that would cut through Flash

@@FrenchLightningJohn I know a chainsaw can cut through Flash and cloth though a lot of chainsaws tend to dechain when it comes into contact with cloths the changes would prevent malfunctions and problems such as being dechain with cloth and being even better at cutting through flesh and Bone and potentially metal depending on the armor one might be wearing you modify what you have to be better at killing

Also that magazine is far too long to be 308, more likely 338 lupua or 408 cheytac. - Longshot was chambered in 950 JDJ in one snippet in a book that came with my game back in the day.
Consider they put chainsaw blades on their rifles is due to Locust having hide that’s thick as armor. So the higher bullet calibers and chainsaw bayonets are a need.
They're only shooting "marshmallows" because of the hardened skin on locust/swarm that can resist bullets similar to a cog marine, including armor they actually wear on top of that.
Don't the guns in Gears use a metal block for a magazine and the gun basically shaves off each bullet as it fires them or am I thinking of something else?
well that whole between the chainsaw in the gun is where they're supposed to hold it so holding it anywhere else is very ill-advised, it's actually surprisingly well thought-out
Addendum to my previous comment: the chainsaw bayonet is impractical for the simple fact that it would require constant cleaning and maintenance from use against the Locusts and Swarm. I understand that Gears Lore states that old Lancer bayonets couldn't pierce Locust skin, but most modern armies have pretty much abandoned rifle bayonets anyway because of obvious reasons.
The lancer mark 2 could most definitely work in real life as long as the person holds the gun properly it should work through I could imagine chunks of bone flying into the user which would be risky and you would probably have to refuel it or maybe in the game it's electric powered.

I've always imaged the COG snub pistol as a .50 GI, a real life caliber made by necking up a .45 ACP. It has the original .45 ACP rim so it can be retro fitted into .45 ACP guns with a barrel, mag and spring swap.
The chainsaw is completely realistic. We have underbarrel grenade launchers, shotguns AND FLAMETHROWERS. So putting an Battery operated chainsaw that's the size of a Bush trimmers would work. We are cutting fleash
Since warriors are weapons do one about how realistic it is for these dude to all be 7-9 feet tall and 600 lbs of muscle but the only thing they got to eat in later games is a few been plants growing on the roof of a building.
Fun fact the reason for the chainsaw in rhe lancer mk.2 is because the skin of a locust drone was to thick for the mk.1's bayonet to piecre without a lot of force behind it hence why you run to get an execution with the retro lancer
The laser originally had a nightmare on it, but that wasn’t very efficient against the grubs. The skin was very solid and tough. If I run correctly, the blade kept on going blunt too fast. A soldier i think it was Tai was being overrun Nathan Blanton. Everything sound was killed used that and it was a lot more effective and pesto hide pretty easily plus didn’t go blunt.
You have to remember how FUCKING huge the gears are. To them, the snub pistol might look like a 45 acp while for us it could very well be a .50. Again these guys are giants.
I honestly speculated that Snub- 10mm Lancer-7.62x51(like he said w/mag size) Long shot- personally thought it was something around 408 cheytac what with all that pressure but relatively small casing something that honestly looks too small to be a 50bmg casing The one shot- I agree 20mm Boltok- with the ridiculous amount of recoil it has I genuinely think 460-500mag Gorgon pistol- the things fukin massive for a pistol and the mags look way to close to ak mags so I’d say 7.62x39 Hammerburst- that mag just says 7.62x39 no question Gnasher- possibly 12ga or 10ga Breachshot- something equivalent to 7.62x54r or 7.62x63(30o6) GZ18- definitely 308(7.62x51)
There's a lancer blueprint in one of the games, the magazine is a weird quad-double stack, with 15 rounds in each stack for a total of 60 rounds, and the rounds themselves appear to be more similar to 7.62x39, 6.5 Grendel or 6mm ARC rather than 7.62 nato
Its actually kind of the opposite the cog training manuals state its not to be used as a weapon due to potential shrapnel like teeth and bone being propelled into the soldiers faces in judgement they even state around a few hundred soldiers a month go blind from exactly that lol
I suppose the Lancer was practical for that particular war the COG soldiers were fighting in. The Locust were nearly impossible to kill in close quarters due to their thick hide and superior strength, which is why they had a tendency to engage COG soldiers in hand-to-hand combat. Otherwise, the Lancer is definitely more practical without the chainsaw.
Both Halo and Gears of War: let's compete on who can make full sized rifle round the weakest despite us being both sci-fi settings. Also both Halo and Gears of War: actually achieving that by making per shot damage of a rifle lower then that of a common sidearm. Meanwhile Half Life: this MP5 is loaded with minituarized antimatter canisters.
If you look at pictures of a soldier holding that rifle the magazine is way too big to be a 7.62. it's nearly the size of a Barrett magazine. Also, the pistol would have to be .50ae because the mag well would have to be massive for it to fit a .50bmg or even .50 beouwolf. It would have the ergonomics of a phone book. The D-eagle is already a brick. My guess would be, the pistol is .50ae, the rifle is .50bmg and the sniper is a 20mm.
Fun fact: the lancer is actually chambered in 30.06, making it the gears equivalent to an 1918 BAR. Additionally, the lack of any padding on gears weapons is due to the fact that Gears are augmented to be less receptive to sensory signals such as pain. This comes with the caveat of not having a great sense of touch.
Sooooo there’s a lot wrong here. The snub absolutely is DE comparable in caliber, the Lancer is also a 50 caliber machine gun. The chainsaw lancer isn’t a design out of convenience, rather necessity. It was designed by Adam Fenix after gears fighting locust post E-Day found their typical bayonets could only pierce locust hides when a considerable amount of force was put behind it. Thus, the chainsaw bayonet was designed as a counter to locust in close combat.
The Barret company manufactures a 25mm Anti Matterial Rifle at is both magazine fed and semi auto with heavy recoil absorpion. The Chainsaw below the rifle is just stupid, and both the SCAR-H and M14 ebr have an actual 20 magazine (the one displayed on screen is about 5 - 7 rounds and the ability to mount either a shotgun or 40mm Grenade launcher
The single shot sniper isnt that far off. Anzio ironworks makes a 20mm vulcan bolt action AMR called the Anzio20mm, it also comes in 14.5x114mm (a round designed to kill Panzer 1, 2, and 3)

What he is forgetting is that the guns are to scale for Locusts and Gears, if he actually read the comics which are canon to the games he would know that the gears are very wide muscular humans with larger hands due to a super soldier program. Just look for the 1:1 scale lancer replica toys that were made you'll see plenty of pictures of 6ft tall guys that still look too weak to hold the gun if it were real, hell just play any of the gears games and you would see that regular humans like the stranded are small and skinny, the weapons are huge in their hands taking up at least their torso. It's like in Halo when you give a marine a covenant weapon and it takes up half their body.
Funny thing about the origin of the chainsaw bayonet, gears were complaining in the early parts of the war that their standard bayonets didn't work well on the locust. Eventually I think it was Tai who ended up killing one with an industrial chainsaw thingy, they then asked doctor Fenix to implement something similar for their bayonets
The change on Lancer making the Chainsaw smaller and barrel longer always annoyed me... Barrel being longer than the chainsaw would cause issues, if the sawing is too shallow...
.45 ACP + .05" gives you the cartridge known as .50GI by Guncrafter Industries. In the USA, the NFA limits Title 1 guns to .500" land to land, so the largest bullet you can fire from a "standard" gun is perhaps .505" or .510" with the lands reducing that effective diameter to .500" so the test plug won't pass through. Of course, you CAN have a firearm with a bore over half an inch, but it's either going to be black powder or it'll need to be registered as a Destructive Device on a Form 4 or Form 1, engraved, and you'll have to pay the $200 tax stamp. People don't know that you can buy machine guns, rocket launchers, grenade launchers, sawed off shotguns, etc. It's just gonna empty your pockets. 😺

You should look at some Skylanders weapons, specifically from the first two games, Spyro's Adventure and Giants.

People forget the humans fighting the locust are supposed to be super macho and muscular, they have to be.
The lancer mark 2 could most definitely work in real life as long as the person holds the gun properly it should work through I could imagine chunks of bone flying into the user which would be risky and you would probably have to refuel it or maybe in the game it's electric powered.

I've always imaged the COG snub pistol as a .50 GI, a real life caliber made by necking up a .45 ACP. It has the original .45 ACP rim so it can be retro fitted into .45 ACP guns with a barrel, mag and spring swap.

Fun fact the reason for the chainsaw in rhe lancer mk.2 is because the skin of a locust drone was to thick for the mk.1's bayonet to piecre without a lot of force behind it hence why you run to get an execution with the retro lancer

The laser originally had a nightmare on it, but that wasn’t very efficient against the grubs. The skin was very solid and tough. If I run correctly, the blade kept on going blunt too fast. A soldier i think it was Tai was being overrun Nathan Blanton. Everything sound was killed used that and it was a lot more effective and pesto hide pretty easily plus didn’t go blunt.

You have to remember how FUCKING huge the gears are. To them, the snub pistol might look like a 45 acp while for us it could very well be a .50. Again these guys are giants.

Boltok- with the ridiculous amount of recoil it has I genuinely think 460-500mag
Gorgon pistol- the things fukin massive for a pistol and the mags look way to close to ak mags so I’d say 7.62x39
Hammerburst- that mag just says 7.62x39 no question
Gnasher- possibly 12ga or 10ga
Breachshot- something equivalent to 7.62x54r or 7.62x63(30o6)
GZ18- definitely 308(7.62x51)
There's a lancer blueprint in one of the games, the magazine is a weird quad-double stack, with 15 rounds in each stack for a total of 60 rounds, and the rounds themselves appear to be more similar to 7.62x39, 6.5 Grendel or 6mm ARC rather than 7.62 nato

Its actually kind of the opposite the cog training manuals state its not to be used as a weapon due to potential shrapnel like teeth and bone being propelled into the soldiers faces in judgement they even state around a few hundred soldiers a month go blind from exactly that lol

I suppose the Lancer was practical for that particular war the COG soldiers were fighting in. The Locust were nearly impossible to kill in close quarters due to their thick hide and superior strength, which is why they had a tendency to engage COG soldiers in hand-to-hand combat. Otherwise, the Lancer is definitely more practical without the chainsaw.

If you look at pictures of a soldier holding that rifle the magazine is way too big to be a 7.62. it's nearly the size of a Barrett magazine. Also, the pistol would have to be .50ae because the mag well would have to be massive for it to fit a .50bmg or even .50 beouwolf. It would have the ergonomics of a phone book. The D-eagle is already a brick. My guess would be, the pistol is .50ae, the rifle is .50bmg and the sniper is a 20mm.
Another lancer hazard is it does use gasoline to power the chainsaw rev, evident in gears 2 due to the exhaust smoke
Fun fact: the lancer is actually chambered in 30.06, making it the gears equivalent to an 1918 BAR. Additionally, the lack of any padding on gears weapons is due to the fact that Gears are augmented to be less receptive to sensory signals such as pain. This comes with the caveat of not having a great sense of touch.
Sooooo there’s a lot wrong here. The snub absolutely is DE comparable in caliber, the Lancer is also a 50 caliber machine gun. The chainsaw lancer isn’t a design out of convenience, rather necessity. It was designed by Adam Fenix after gears fighting locust post E-Day found their typical bayonets could only pierce locust hides when a considerable amount of force was put behind it. Thus, the chainsaw bayonet was designed as a counter to locust in close combat.
the longshot might be something like a 700 Nitro Express since the gun is not an anti-material

The Barret company manufactures a 25mm Anti Matterial Rifle at is both magazine fed and semi auto with heavy recoil absorpion. The Chainsaw below the rifle is just stupid, and both the SCAR-H and M14 ebr have an actual 20 magazine (the one displayed on screen is about 5 - 7 rounds and the ability to mount either a shotgun or 40mm Grenade launcher
The single shot sniper isnt that far off. Anzio ironworks makes a 20mm vulcan bolt action AMR called the Anzio20mm, it also comes in 14.5x114mm (a round designed to kill Panzer 1, 2, and 3)

What he is forgetting is that the guns are to scale for Locusts and Gears, if he actually read the comics which are canon to the games he would know that the gears are very wide muscular humans with larger hands due to a super soldier program. Just look for the 1:1 scale lancer replica toys that were made you'll see plenty of pictures of 6ft tall guys that still look too weak to hold the gun if it were real, hell just play any of the gears games and you would see that regular humans like the stranded are small and skinny, the weapons are huge in their hands taking up at least their torso.
It's like in Halo when you give a marine a covenant weapon and it takes up half their body.

Funny thing about the origin of the chainsaw bayonet, gears were complaining in the early parts of the war that their standard bayonets didn't work well on the locust. Eventually I think it was Tai who ended up killing one with an industrial chainsaw thingy, they then asked doctor Fenix to implement something similar for their bayonets

honestly I dont think a mounted chainsaw is terribly unrealistic for a weapon, just not necessarily good for standard issue stuff
The Locust have very thick, scaly hides, so chainsaw weaponry and higher caliber bullets are more useful.
They do have magnetic slings atleast, making the problem a little less problematic

This is like comparing mass effects Normandy to the Top of the line Space Craft we have. The tech is vastly different
.45 ACP + .05" gives you the cartridge known as .50GI by Guncrafter Industries. In the USA, the NFA limits Title 1 guns to .500" land to land, so the largest bullet you can fire from a "standard" gun is perhaps .505" or .510" with the lands reducing that effective diameter to .500" so the test plug won't pass through. Of course, you CAN have a firearm with a bore over half an inch, but it's either going to be black powder or it'll need to be registered as a Destructive Device on a Form 4 or Form 1, engraved, and you'll have to pay the $200 tax stamp. People don't know that you can buy machine guns, rocket launchers, grenade launchers, sawed off shotguns, etc. It's just gonna empty your pockets. 😺

I always replace the lancer with the Retro Lancer, they say it’s painful, but I saw fucking anya use it and lift impale grunts without any prior combat experience . If the COG weren’t bitches and didn’t downgrade, the locusts would have died before the lightmass offense
