I mean I feel you but even in the OG tv show, Mario had an American New York accent. Plus, I don’t think we really want an ENTIRE movie with Mario’s high pitch screaming lol. I think we like it now because we only hear like 1-3 voice lines per game but an entire movie of that would be different.

The wouldnt bug me as much if i didnt watch the super mario bros show. which is amazing btw. but yea I miss the old voice, but the worlds not perfect this is one of the scenarios where its not 100% possible to get the original voice actor. Nobody to blame so im not really mad
Jack Black is getting better at his voice work with the experience hes gained from animated films, plus hes got a highly energetic wild personality so its probably easier for him.
I need to hear more of Chris. I dont want or expect some insane Italian stereotype voice or his classic game voice, but a little Brooklyn accent would be a nice touch. Aint gonna lie.
Edit: Forgot to add the animation and design is outstanding. Pure eye candy.
It's extremely easier for him to voice act as bowser. He's a rock singer, so a voice like that isn't difficult for him at all. And it shows. He sounds completely different.
He has an accent, people are just used to the super blatant and stereotyped strong accent people in Brooklyn have, you can hear an accent in "Mushroom Kingdom, here we come." and a bit in the last words of his first sentence, namely when he says "place". It could be a bit better, but it'll get tiring if he did a strong Brooklyn accent
I think they severely underestimated how people would react to Mario’s voice for this first trailer.
What we got was fine, but what they should of done was just give us a good few seconds of him just talking to toad or something. Not the “mushroom kingdom, here we come”. But so far, extremely promising 💪

Hard to believe this is the same studio who’s known for making just ok films. Not saying despicable me is bad but it’s cool to see illumination finally branching out into a different animation style like Pixar and dreamworks are doing. Not to mention bowser is absolutely perfect lol

The budget quality is actually INSANE. Jack Black as Bowser is PERFECT. If this movie succeeds, this will open the doors for so many other nintendo movies like Zelda.

marios voice would be hard to listen to for a full length movie, his voice is fitting for a couple one liners
That's what I'm saying. It's like, I understand we're all so used to Charles voice for so long, but Mario never really had full on dialogue like this. It works perfect for the games, but going in this direction was the right choice. Honestly, Pratt's voice isn't THAT bad and you can hear him sprinkle on a slight accent at the end there.

You do realize Charles Martinet has incredible range and could shift Mario's voice to be tolerable yet still faithful to the character, right? He's done a lot more than just Mario.

Just to inform, Mario's original voice was a guy with a New York accent, not a high-pitched stereotypical Italian, that voice came after so it's not far-fetched that he has a regular voice, the Italian accent was more specifically designed for only video game sound effects which is why Mario doesn't have dialogue in the games, but in the shows and the old movie he had a New York accent. If people understood this they will have more ease of mind
The animation looks WAYY better than expected, even by Illumination standards.
And as a big fan of the Mario franchise, I am really hyped for this movie. I can already imagine myself silently fangirling in the theater from all the references I'm going to see 💀

The high octave piano is used in a lot of cinematic trailers to give off a "peaceful mind" effect or give some suspense to the viewer because it makes you focus on the gravity of the situation

The dialoge is actually redone for the scenes, look at the scene where Mario yells and Toad pops up. Plus the final line is done when they aren’t facing the camera.

I think its a technique in music called leit-motif which consists of placing a melody on a character so that you audibly recognise them as well as visually recognising them. Except this technique instead of being used in a specific movie, they put it in trailers from past projects for nostalgic effect.

The animation is honestly solid. I genuinely think it looks amazing. The voice acting aswell doesnt seem out of place....like it just works. Bowser's voice fits, toad aswell. Mario is so/so but not because its bad or anything, moreso that im not sure it "fits" like the others just yet. Maybe itll grow on me so i wont judge yet. Looking forward to it this, looks promising. Funny enough, if you are old enough to remember. Mario was from a NY-like place, originally. So yeah, Italian, but American. In fact, Mario was already big since Donkey Kong. Mario Bros. then solidified him as definitely a plumber, along with his brother, and continued the NY-esque motif. Then came Super Mario Bros, which was quite a change of venue from the original games, so they quickly explained it in text.
