I hope that Kermode is actually there when Tarantino's interview is done. It'll be interesting to see Tarantino's take on Kermode's opinion of his movies.

"Les Miserables and his Orchestra" ... Comedy gold!
I think Russel Crowe was the only person in that film that seemed to realise how awful it was and just messed about and actually went as over top as he could get away with.
I take it Mark doesn't like old school kung fu movies. Thought Rza's take was spot on of the classics. a lot of the old ones had a tongue in cheek humor in them. This type of movie is not meant to be high cinema. It is meant to be simple action fun.
The reason Tarantino isn't making films as good as Jackie Brown - although, I personally really liked Inglourious Basterds - is because he's no longer reading Elmore Leonard novels and ripping off the plots.
Here's what he actually says about kung fu movies: "I'm sorry, but if I want to watch a scrungy, sleazy, splattery exploitation fight movie, I will go and watch one of the originals." He seems to like them fine, but just doesn't see the point of remaking them without doing anything new and interesting with the format. And sorry, but "simple action fun" is usually just another way of saying that the film makers didn't really care about what they were doing.
I speak as somebody who likes a good bit of exploitation sleaze with a little bit of a postmodern twist in it... sometimes. In it, and I didn't mean *innit* as in "*innit*", I meant postmodern twist "in it". ROFL. OMG.
i completely disagree with this review. this is one of the best films of the year, completely underrated, should've had more screenings in the cinemas, and both the acting and directing was top notch. the plot, also, was very unique and still had that sense of originality.
Casting non-martial Azns is hardly spot on classic, neither is the lack of good action. Cung Le (actor/actual competitive Martial artist) was miscast as he was fast cut edited! Kermode's recognition of the 2012 film 'Haywire' is proof he knows what cinematic physicality is. Tongue in cheek humor, over-acting, simple storylines, all the Kung Fu tropes..its all good if the action is on point but here, it isN'T what it is. Gimme some: Shaw bros, Cheh Chang, Woo-Ping, w/ some Wu Tang on the side!
That moment when Mayo tells Mark: "By the way, it's The Riz-eh" - golden.
Mayo cracking up while reading the daughter's text. Classic
The face Simon pulls at the slicing and dripping cracks me up :)
I would love to see Kermode and Quentin in the same room. Oh lord please make this happen.
Gotta love Mayo's purity that all liquids have a baseline equation to fizzy orange.

Love the reaction Mark had when Simon told him how to pronounce RZA. Lmfao.
Great review, can't wait to hear your take on Django Unchained.
Is it too late to point out that one of the bands who contributed to the sound track is called "BADBADNOTGOOD" ?
Look em up they're awesome!
Came here to see if Mark can pronounce RZA
It's RZA, you know to rhyme with GZA.
Love the Tarantino Impression...
It's about freakin time for Tarantino to finally appear on the program.
Waiting for this too...it's the reason I subscribed. That way I won't miss it.

Kermode mocked by his daughter via Mayo. Perfect.
Whoops, posted that mid video, didn't hear Mayo's correction :)

What was your price Louis?

Funny way of saying Rza!!!!
"RZA" is spelled "Riza", by the way.
You do a great Tarantino impression :D
Has it happened yet?? :)
This new studio and their change in position has thrown my world into complete disarray.
Roffle, oh em gee. Mayo completely slays him in this one. So cruel, hahaha.
Wait, is Tarantino actually coming on the show...
OH I CANNOT WAIT!!!
You shouldn't take these type of films so seriously, they're pretty much Grindhouse films.
We're getting a classic Kermodian rant here.
Jack the Knife? Mack the Knife, surely?
Ah, so that's how you pronounce "titular"! Thanks Mark!
Wait, is Tarantino actually coming on the show...
OH I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE THE FALLOUT AFTER SPEAKING WITH KERMODE!!!
Jackie Brown was... serviceable.

Rza, pronounced 'Rizza'
Arr-Zee-Ey? I don't expect Mark to know his hiphop legends, but come on, haha.
adult supervision is required

Pluss Mark like a lot of none high art Cinema
That'd be more epic than The Man with the Iron Fists lol

..."Wu Tang Clang."
Russel Crowe and the Rza are actually good friends. I can see why they decided to work together.
