Ahhhh... developing scenery with MSFS 2020 SDK still in beta! Haha! I do hope M$/Asobo improves the useful but buggy terraform tool and also makes it more versatile by adding tapers/slopes/multi-elevation-features/etc. My gf and I just visited Krabi and Phuket in southern Thailand and I would like to tweak FS2020 to match some of the many unique shaped rocky karst islands in the area that mostly appear as featureless lumps in the sim. Anyway, please keep 'em coming F.T. as you're helping so many of us and I appreciate it! 👍😁👍 Gotta admit I've watched more helpful tutorials, gotten more advice and helpful tweaks from YOU in just the past little while than I ever got for the nearly 1 year I spent struggling to develop scenery for the X-Plane platform in 2018 with the crappy scenery creation tools they had that were also chaotically scattered all over the place. In spite of the many brick walls I hit and only hearing crickets in reply to my many requests for help in their forums, emails, and on YT channels, I'm proud to say that my 'handcrafted' custom 3D-modeled XP scenery turned out fantastic. Sadly it simply proved to be too frustrating and I finally threw in the towel. Thankfully, the MSFS community is nothing like the arrogant unhelpful chumps at brand X and I'm now enjoying creating scenery again... so big thanks to you and the many helpful folks here on YT!😁😄😊 As always, Cheers from Thailand young fella! :)
I'm so glad these videos are helping people create the scenery that they really want to see in the game. I think the SDK still has a long way to go before we can create really finely tuned sceneries. It's pretty good already but there's so much more I wish it would do. The Flight Sim 2020 community so far has been great, flightsim.to is a great resource for free add-ons, reddit.com/r/FS2020Creation/ is full of really helpful folks too and there are some other great tutorial videos on youtube. It's great being part of such a welcoming and warm community!
In the new SDK if you create a rectangle and use that for terraforming then go into the Profile Editor you can set various points If you look for MSFS _custom_airports_v0.2 by Lyriax4391 he has a PDF for a tutorial
Hi and thanks for your channel, I find it a must have for developing or designing my own airports. Could you find the time to do a tutorial on adding roads and getting road vehicles to travel on them please. I watched your video about placing bridges in the correct place but it didnt answer my needs for roads. Hoping you can do this for us. Much appreciated and thanks again. Regards Brian
it would be nice if you could change the color gradient of the runway texture to match the actual one. The overlaid runways look like an opaque surface over the original texture which looks kind of fake. matching the color would help a lot.
I love your tutorials. Thank you! Would you be able to do one using the parallax interior option (looking through windows at a fake 3D room for example)
I have tried this loads of times and it just doesn't work for me. I'm trying to remove the 4 storey building on approach to rnwy 24 at EGTB. It doesn't exist in real life. Any help appreciated. SDK V 0.12.0.0
Hello there will you able to help it seems that the latest SDK is buggy, it seems out of sink with the mouse and the menu inside the flight Sim can you or someone else able to help?
Is there any way to remove the tall rocks that are all around the airport of my hometown of Augusta, Ga. these rocks don't exist and they are everywhere around the airport KDNL. I have tried to insert the Google map scenery according to your tutorial but have been unsuccessful. These rocks are also all around the Key West airport KEYW.
Select the glass msfs sdk material and in albedo, upload a grey PNG image. The albedo here works as a mask and grey means it will be half transparent. But I noticed that it has to be a PNG for it to work even tho the PNG itself doesn't have to have any transparency in it (I could be doing something wrong here too but this is how it worked for me). After that just upload a dark roughness map for the roughness to give the glass some reflections. But the msfs sdk material has only one slot for AO, Roughness, Metalness and uses the different RGB channels for each. So a regular dark image will also end up being used as a dark AO and that will mess up the look. Make sure you combine a DARK Roughness map with a WHITE AO map in the GREEN and RED channels respectively. I do this using Quixel Mixer which is free.
I just use the glass material in MSFS options, play with the alpha settings. Or use the standard material and change type to render parameters alpha mode to blend, under that sliders for material properties, play with alpha cutoff number. In area called color multipliers, you can tint the glass with albedo other than white, just a little colour is required, play with alpha multiplier number.
This may be a dumb question but how do I put my CGL package into my main package. They're already in the same project but they're different packages and so when I build, it creates two different folders to put in the community folder. I want just one folder
what is the CGL package for? aerial photos? I had a similar issue where I wanted scenery BGL files and a mission file for a bush trip in the same package but it just wouldn't build that way and wanted it as two separate packages.
@@FlyingTheston Yes its for aerial photos. I have that package in the same project with my BGL package using the method you showed in one of your previous videos. I tried creating a new CGL within my main package and then placing the aerial images into the new created folders but it doesn't seem to work. I don't know what I'm missing :(
Awesome tutorial as always. Its possibile to show US how to place a costom marking signs on the ground. I need to place a custom arrows on the apron. Greetings!!
I'm not very familiar with SDK but I've got multiple taxiway lights at my home airport that are way off and would like to remove them if it wouldn't be too big of a job. Would the method that you just showed work for this or is there an easier way?
To remove taxiway lights you're better off using the airport object and putting it over the airport then just disabling the taxiway lights via the option, watch my earlier videos on airports for more details
@@FlyingTheston I've tried a few different things but getting rid of unwanted taxiway lights is obviously beyond my very limited abilities in SDK. At this point I feel accomplished in being able to create a polygon :) ....I do enjoy your tutorials so maybe someday all of this will make more sense.
@@FlyingTheston I truly appreciate your help, but being so new to SDK I'll admit you make it look very easy while for me it seems very complicated. If you could do a short video specifically demonstrating the step by step to removing unwanted taxiway lights I might be able to follow that. I'd like to correct this at my home airport because it is annoying and distracts from the realism but I also realize that Asobo might never get around to fixing it. It doesn't affect flight which is the main thing for me. Again, I want to thank you very much for everything you're doing to make this sim better.

@@FlyingTheston, yes, I know that. It seems the problem is that I didn't know how to build the package.
