I don't think you could call "first vote offs," a racist thing. Given the circumstances, Semhar would have been first off regardless of her race, she was driving everyone nuts. Nadiya was rubbing a few people the wrong way with some comments she made (one that comes to mind is telling Josh she was counting him as one of the girls), and Seikou was on a tribe of African- Americans, so I guess it would have been a "racist vote," no matter who went home.

hedwig041 First vote offs are the hardest because everyone has an equal target and even looking at someone funny is enough to get a big enough target to vote you off, it has nothing to do with race, if it was race thing all first vote offs would be of a racial ethnicity.
1. Marissa voted off first - Gervase's celebration fault
2. Jolanda - Screwed up that first tribal challenge in Palau
3. Nadiya - Voted off because she already played a different game and people knew of their aggressive gameplay
4. Semhar - Weakest link, and was driving everyone crazy.
5. Sekou - Not only was he on a tribe made up of African-American people, but he was also the overall weakest.

Jake S. Don't call someone an idiot just because you can't see something. There's a lot of racism on Survivor, and any smart person can see it. Can you explain why it is that it's so hard for minorities to win that game? Compare it with the Amazing Race, which is a game that is based more on merit than how much people like you. You'll notice that way more minorities have won the Amazing Race than Survivor. One of the rarest times a black person won Survivor was because there were three black people in the final. I truly believe that if there had been even one white person in that final, he would have won. Colton Cumbie is a clear example of racist people on that game. In Phillip's case, I agree it wasn't racism, and anyone who watched that season knows that. He was just playing crazy because that was the only way he could trick Rob into keep him in the game. But as you watch the game, season after season, you start to realize there is always a reason to vote the black person out; and black people are often among the first people to be voted out. This is not random; it's plain racism. The company who organizes this game wants it to be a social experiment, and I think this is one of the things we can learn from it: it's hard for black people to get ahead because other people just don't like them and will do everything possible to stop them from succeeding.

I don't think think 'first vote offs' thing is necessarily racist, but I would love to see if there is any statistical significance between ethnicity and first boot (of course excluding cooke islands). If there was, I don't think it would imply racism, rather it may mean that the cultural divide was too wide to bridge. We can't deny that African Americans have a unique culture, and while not all black people adhere to that culture, it may make socialization difficult in a tribe full of culturally "White" people, for lack of a better term.

However being that you said 5 times in all 29 seasons a minority went home first is still pretty high being that maybe there were 2-3 minorities out of 18 players. Meaning 14-17 Whites per season.
I did the math and based on the numbers.. there is a 34% chance that a minority would get voted out first. This also based on the number of total players. White and non white. 34% is still really high because there is usually only 2-3 minorities on the show.

Darryl Flinch True, but with 2 seasons in which they had more than half of the cast as a minority (Cook Islands and Fiji), a minority going home first in those seasons would be expected, so those 2 shouldn't really be considered Racist, especially Cook Islands, since everyone at the first tribal council was the same race, so racism could not have possibly been a factor.
Also, did you count for who was voted off at the first tribal council or who was eliminated first, because in some seasons (For example, Blood VS Water 1) They had vote-offs before the first Tribal Council, so the race of the person eliminated first could be different based on how someone counts. Using Blood vs Water as an example, Laura B. and Candice (both white) were voted off first, but it was Marissa (minority) who was voted off at the first tribal council, and Rupert (white) who was the first person to be eliminated. So based on the opinion of the person who counts, the number could vary.

However, usually there is always that one annoying one or that one that everyone is like yeah that person is gone.

Darryl Flinch No they shouldn't. Reverse racism is just as bad as racism. People are selected based on what will make good entertainment. When Survivor tries to play social justice, it's a horrible season. Just look at Survivor Fiji. Survivor Cook Islands would have been just as bad had it not been for Penner, Ozzy, and Yul. The percentage of black people in the U.S. is about 13% and that's represented on the show. They receive very little quality applications from all races.

Some good, some bad here. There were some blatantly racist moments over the past 42 seasons but Phillips crazy rant wasn't one of them. People also keep bringing up the fact that one of the first survivor players voted out who was black was on an all black tribe but i don't think that the black people who were voted out first is an example of racism unless the vote was based on race, and the fact that the tribes were segregated by race was more racist than being the first voted out anyway. Either way, there were 6 black survivor players who were voted out first in 41 seasons, however there's also been 10 black survivor winners in 41 seasons as well, and way more black survivor players who have made it to the merge/jury than i could care to count.

I don't see why the first Cook Islands vote off could be considered Raicst, everyone on the tribe was the same race. Also, all of the votes I remembered from that list had a legitimate, not based on race reason. I think a better number one would've just been Cook Islands itself

on cook islands, the tribes were divided by race. so when the tribe of african americans had to go to tribal, it was inevitable that an african american would be the first vote off. and on survivor sam juan del sur, yes Nadiya was first off, but her twin sister won that very season. but the situations in survivor samoa, redemption island, and one world are inexcusable

1. That's the funniest joke I've seen all day. Lets break down every first boot who was a minority
Season 10- Jolanda- drove people crazy and bossed them around. People were tempted to keep her because she was strong but she drove them crazy.
Season 13- Sekou- Was on an all black tribe lmao
Season 22- Fransesqua- Was identified as a threat by Rob when she discussed getting rid of him early
Season 23- Semhar don't really remember her too well but pretty sure she got into a fight with someone and sucked at challenges.
Season 26- Fransequa I believe people wanted to align with Phillip (who is also black) who had beef with her lol
Season 27- Marrisa Peterson- Technically Laura and Candice were the first 2 voted out of their tribes, but she was the first to be voted out at tribal so I'll count her. She wasn't the greatest social player, but really it had more to do with getting back at Gervase for boasting and being obnoxious.
Season 29- Nadyia- Had more to do with being a woman honestly as she was trying to create a female alliance and the men shut that down quick.
Season 30- So Kim- Another one I have a hard time remembering. I think she made the mistake of targeting a really good player who turned it on her.
Season 32- Darnel-Honestly I just remember him taking a dump in the ocean in front of everyone lol. I believe he cost the tribe a challenge and they felt the fair thing to do was vote him out.
Season 33- Rachel She was awful at challenges and socially
Season 35- Stephanie- Another hard one to remember, but I believe she messed up a challenge badly and wasn't good enough socially to stay.
Season 40- Natalie- Made sense as the old school players wanted to play with Jeremy but also knew Natalie was his ride or die.
Season 41- Too aggressive to quick
Season 43- She was very weak in the challenge.

The jury on Survivor Fiji deciding on Earl, Cassandra, and Dreamz, one member came out the gate pointing at them saying "eeny meeny miney mo/ catch a liar by the toe". If the final three were white and played the exact same game, she wouldn't have said that. The original lyrics to that nursery rhyme are brutally racist. I'm 100% sure this was a dogwhistle. Oh and Big Tom saying he'd shoot Clarence for sharing food was big. And Russell burning Jaison's socks specifically felt off.
