Excellent work! I like how the Confederates and Federals turned out. They look really good standing shoulder to shoulder. Thanks for posting the paints in the description box. The guide on cutting down the hats to make kepis is really helpful, too.
Thankyou, some projects work so well with contrast, others I struggle. These I enjoyed. My key learning point this time, was not being afraid of using Agrax to darken where 2 colours join, or to hide mistakes.
I think they look great. I got hold of two copies of the mag and am likely going to use them with things like One-Hour Wargames as, effectively, a battle in a box.
I thought i had, i have 2 massive 10mm armies, but i love the look of these, ranked up. If i was a betting man, i would put money ECW. Its a John Stallard Favourite (he wrote the warhammer historical book), and again 1 sprue can do both sides.
I really like the mods you did! I plan on making them 3 stands as well. With any of the starter sets you can really get some units on the board. With the modifications you did you could even get some flag bearers on some of the smaller size units but treat them as regular sized. Even keep a few 5 base units as regiments at full strength and count as huge. Do the rule sets that come with the boxed sets talk about range modifications for the smaller scale? Again, great video!
I believe the rules will talk about reduction in scale. BP1 rulebook covered this In it's appendices. I did a video about this as well. With 28mm, and playing on a 6x4 we reduced scales by 1/4. Movement bounds being 8 inches for example.
I like your unit size organisations of 3 standard etc. Warlord have missed a trick here me thinks as 5 to a base would of been better for us Wargamer’s and more particle to show Column for example
I'd liked to have seen some sprues with exclusively kepis and forage caps; the slouch hat wasn't really a thing in the Union Army, save for certain units, eg The Iron Brigade.
Thanks for the info, I didn't know about marines would be white. Like I said in previous projects 10mm I wanted them to stand out. This is black all the way.
Thanks and really like the idea of adding Kalistra to the front rank of a base. Definitely helps break up the monotony of the 1x10 strips.
Great to see how to match up with other ranges, the Kallistra command sure knocks it up a notch!
Thanks for posting this video . Shows what can be achieved with the Warlords plastics , and how they can work with existing figure ranges .

Nice to connect up with you again Stephen, looking forward to see more on your ACW armies.
They have come out excellently. Nice to see converting the hats to kepis is no bother.
I am pretty much going to do all my union with Kepis. So yes I too am glad it's no bother!
I haven’t played BP but I’m doing the same as you counting as two bases for Fir and Fury, Civil War battles etc. Nicely done - great video.
Warlord Games does Command strips now.
You’ve made a great job of those. Very nice. 👍
One of the best use of Contrast Paints. Really well done.

@@Unclecthulu I was thinking to first base coat black then spray white front and back so as to create some form of shading
Very nice painting
Thankyou. Though it is all technique. Having painting loads of smaller scale. Agrax earthshade from GW does.help hide a multitude of sins.
Bought my magazine today and I'm really looking forward to painting mine, yours look beautiful

They look really good Be interested to see them do other periods- done all the ACW I'm ever going to do!

ECW? Interesting... I could do the 30 Years War with those...
Sorry, should have said your minis look superb!

Very good review! Fabulous results
Cheers! I have really enjoyed painting these. Ask me again when i am deep in the battle box!
Thanks for posting this, very helpful!
My pleasure, I am really inspired by the project.
Very helpful - thank you.
You did well to paint that lot up in such a small amount of time.
Thankyou! About 6 hours over 3 days. I do a lot of small scale models, so I didn't have to invent the wheel!

Great video ive been thinking about using contrast paints and now the mind is made up! any chance of listing paints used in the video description
Done. Hopefully you can follow that.
I say warlord.plastic at the start. I meant warlord resin!!@!
Nicely done!
Could you post the campaign game you mentioned, please?
Very nicely done Unclecthulu!! These came with a recent Wargames Illustrated issue?
Yes they did. I bought 2 copies. Had anorher 2 sprues sent to me as welk from friends!
I want to do the Kallistra commands but can you buy them in smaller quantities from anywhere? I don't need 60 models!
If in the UK try colonel bills 2nd hand figures,
@@Unclecthulu thanks! I just bit the bullet and ordered a couple of packs!

I agree, but we work with what we have. I will be trimming down my Unions into Kepis
Not sure the Black hats from Wisconsin aka the Iron Brigade wore 'slouch' hats....
@@erics745 ah yes you are correct. I was using the term generally to describe wide brimmed hats.
@@erics745 I'm no expert- always see them in wide-brimmed/slouch hats.
"Hardee hats"?
White belts would be marines, black was the more common option.
Thanks for the info, I didn't know about marines would be white. Like I said in previous projects 10mm I wanted them to stand out. This is black all the way.
Yup, US Marines wore white belts and trousers
