My mom's intermittent Goodman gas pack had flame sensor, gas valve, then 2 boards installed then the tech gave up. I resoldered 9 cracked joints behind the plug to all the safeties. The amount of factory solder was very minimal, I think they all cracked when the plug was smashed on.
I'll bet that the problem with the defrost board was simply just one visually obvious cold solder joint on the connector, that could have been easily fixed in about a minute with a soldering iron and some solder, you wouldn't have even had to fully disconnect the board.
Cold solder joint…just weird that it lasted so long if it’s original…if you look at the back of the board and wiggle the input pins there will be at least one moving within the solder
I'm a very honest service tech myself in Florida. But I'll tell you what she's lucky. She called you because everybody else. Every other salesman with lof the but a new unit there.
It looks to me like the ground pin in the board had a broken or cold solder joint which allowed the pin to break contact when the plug was moved. Possibly could have been soldered to repair.
Curtis, I love your work and you’re a great and honest contractor. BUT if I opened a new part and saw what you saw I would not have installed it, but rather called them and reported it. They could say You caused it to fail how do we know you didn’t damage it? You got lucky my worthy friend.
My brother had this same unit up til 2 yrs ago in the house he purchased 😂 Nobody thought it was real/operational. They thought it was just yard debris that he hadn't hauled off yet
Been a while since I've seen one of those. They must have been pretty good systems. Circuit boards, sometimes they can be easy, it's the newer models that concern me. Good job
You might have taken a pic of the board and serial/model and texted them to make sure it's what you wanted. Arcing seems to indicate bad ground on the board.
Hello Curtis. Great video for sure. I'm not certain I would have been so calm with used parts and limited access to the unit. The customer seemed calm and grateful to have you out.

My supplier won’t take any circuit boards that was open…. you buy it it’s yours.😂

I think it's better to not disconnect to solder- it might recrack when you replug the wires.
Why take the chance of a callback. Just put a new one in and be done with it.
Bad solder joint on the back of that circuit board to that connector pin.

Well done Curtis, maybe next time lift that drain higher up the wall out of the dirt 😉 👍 Au
26 years and still kicking! We both would have lost the bet about the charge just goes to show old school quality
Good job Sir!
My Goodman lasted 25 years. Finally replaced for good measure and R-410.
19:31 - Second pin from the top on the cable pin header has a cold solder joint.
I'm a very honest service tech myself in Florida. But I'll tell you what she's lucky. She called you because everybody else. Every other salesman with lof the but a new unit there.
It will be replaced is just a matter of time sometimes its the best option.
Good job Curtis thanks to you the old girl lives for another day thanks for the video
You bet
Great video. Thank you for your hard work

I would have soldered to test and check charge but I think it is illegal to repair boards
Curtis,
I love your work and you’re a great and honest contractor. BUT if I opened a new part and saw what you saw I would not have installed it, but rather called them and reported it.
They could say You caused it to fail how do we know you didn’t damage it?
You got lucky my worthy friend.
They have a nest on the wall! That could be part of the problem 😂
My brother had this same unit up til 2 yrs ago in the house he purchased 😂
Nobody thought it was real/operational. They thought it was just yard debris that he hadn't hauled off yet
The OLE TRASH CAN AC
THE OLE NO COUNT NEST
YES SIR YOU EARNED YOUR PAY.
Iming that a New Used part Sold at NEW ( INFLATION ) PRICE.

Great Video! That was a big arc coming from low voltage😊
Came across the same issue on a few units in a apartment complex not bad for them to fail after 20+ years 👌
Talk to your sales rep, they are charging you 30.00 more.the blade is what caused the problem.nice vid.
Huh?
@@willwise9445 fan vibration.
Vibration! I bet youre right
Give that Nest the Ted Cook reliability test. :)
I'm surprised the parts house returned an electrical part; maybe his brother-in-law?
Most places i have done business with will not allow electrical parts returns.
I think they were lied to. They shouldn’t have accepted that.
Yes sir, up here in Jersey the Carrier/Bryant/ Payne distributor will not accept any electronic parts returned for ANY reason. I agree on that policy.
You might have taken a pic of the board and serial/model and texted them to make sure it's what you wanted. Arcing seems to indicate bad ground on the board.
I think you must have every hvac tool known to man. yes i am jealous! lol

Buy a good soldering iron and fix these solder joints .
10:15 That's why I love wago's man; fool proof.
I am surprised you can get parts for some of these older units. Circuit boards can corrode after less time than that.
That condenser is running but sounds like it’s about to come apart.
Woah Im never this early. Thanks for making your Spanish Channel Vato 👍.
De nada
Hey Curtis great work! By the way are you liking the open top bag? Every time I use mine I get caught in the rain, I switched back to my MC bag.
I love it! I try not to work in the rain!
Just a little electronic but i guess you played it safe
Get rid of those wire nuts go to wago connectors
They sure don't build them like that anymore 😕
I might have tried to spin the unit to gain better access.
with the age of that line set you don't dare move it
That board was acting all crazy. Bad solder joint?
Oh the dreaded hockey puck thermostat
lol
Why not reflow the solder on the connector?
Do they make anything better than wire nuts nowadays for connecting those 24v leads?
👍👍👍
Why would you put a drain in the ground. Sloppy work.
👍👍😊😊
If you are skilled and adventurous you could resolder the connection.
If there simply wasn’t another option I’d try.
If it was low on freon what would of done r22 no longer available r22 was the best people have been getting busted from bringing it in from Mexico
R22 is very easy to buy now, no problem
