  • Storytelling has been an integral part of humanity’s history since before the written word. From podcasts to TED talks, storytelling has taken on new forms as technology progresses, but its presence is constant. Sharing our stories of joy, pain, success, and loss deeply connects us to other humans in the world. The Brainpower Chronicles is our way of creating community and breaking down the mental health stigma that keeps people silent. No notes. No powerpoint slides. No podium to hide behind.
We know that the power of a story can change lives. NAMI Washington is proud to share storyteller Alyssa Meaker at the 2019 Brainpower Chronicles. Brainpower Chronicles is real people talking about real life, and mental illness. Alyssa Meaker is s graduate from Western Washington University with a degree in psychology, and a minor in philosophy. Alyssa was classically trained in ballet for 14 years, and trained in various other styles including jazz and modern. She held the titles of Miss Whatcom County 2018 and Miss Columbia Basin 2019 in the Miss America Organization. She enjoys filling her time by teaching dance classes, babysitting, taking photographs, and watching Netflix with her very own prince charming, her husband Aaron.
Directed by Bill Bernat and Susan Fee, the 2019 Brainpower Chronicles was filmed November 9th, 2019 at the Museum of Flight in Seattle, WA.
