Anti-National Front Demonstration In Southall (April 1979)

- This is a small news clip covering the clash between the police and the predominantly asian community in Southall, London. The National Front had chosen to hold an election meeting in the town hall. Coming during a period of when race relations were at a low, the local community were incensed that an outwardly racist group chose to hold a meeting in their locale.
It should be noted that three years previously Gurdip Singh Chaggar had been murdered in Southall in a racist attack. In 1978, Judge McKinnon ruled that the National [Front] leader Kingsley Reads pronouncement on Chaggars murder - one down, one million to go - did not constitute incitement to racial hatred.
This confrontation achieved notoriety with the death of Clement Blair Peach a teacher from New Zealand. Peach was knocked unconcious by a police officer down a side street and died the following day. Nobody was ever charged with his murder and the jury at the inquest investigating his death returned a verdict of death by misadventure.
It is undeniable that confrontations such as this and that at Lewisham laid the groundwork for the riots in Brixton, Toxteth, Tottenham and so many other places in the eighties.
In December 2009, the Crown Prosecution Service stated that they would be considering whether to conduct further investigations into Blair Peach's death. This statement comes following the decision by the Metrolpolitan Police to publish the original internal enquiry.
Without the Indians the world wars would have not been won...NF has been abolished. RIP Blair Peach, RIP Gurdip Chaggar (young Sikh killed by NF in Southall) and a big thank you to all of the Indian and West Indian service men and women who participated in the world wars to bail out the British.
In 1979 the British police was helping the NF in Southall behind the back door.
We still need justice for Blair Peach!

@godbluff68 I undoubtably agreee with you on that concept and it angers me considerably, which hopefully as the generations go on the new people will adopt western customs - im sorry to wish for their culture to fade but i feel they need to aquire some of ours too, whilst preserving their's obviously.Yeh mate im honoured to speak to someone with knowledge as you, sometimes i feel everyone including me is ignorent and your not; and i feel as you do that finding a solution is extremely difficuilt.
Singh is king means no harm.
Whereabouts in Bombay was this ?
I was there that day, I remember seeing a car driven by some Asians along the Lady Margaret Road trying to run over white guys, until the car was brought to a halt by missles and broken windscreen
Why do people love to put themselves in boxes? Why does everyone need a fuckin label?

Other Europeans came to Britain over the centuries and integrated into one culture that has gone largely untouched for how many hundreds of years? To equate this with immigrants from all over the world of every race, ethnicity, and culture flooding in is stupid beyond words. It is called having an identity. In group vs. out group. Every nation and culture on earth has a firm grasp of this, except in the West. See how India responds to millions of immigrants from all over.
@godbluff68
Clearly there are subgroups and segementation, but there is still a greater identity on a national and cultural level. Go to most non-Western nations and there will be no confusion whatsoever about who's in their group (ingroup) and who's not (outgroup). Go to Korea, Pakistan, Nigeria, wherever and you will see virtual homogeneity and strong identity. To say it is a social construct is totally laughable as the non-Western world lives this way implicitly.
Madting still u know this cant happen now because it would be curtains for them QUICK! Loving the stories from my dad and uncles about how they violated racists back in their day
