The Western Wall Heritage Foundation planned 17 central Selichot services for the thousands of worshippers expected this year.
About 50,000 people gathered for the central Selichot service at the Western Wall on Thursday night, according to the Western Wall Heritage Foundation.
The Selichot prayers are recited in the days and weeks leading up to the Jewish High Holidays, as well as in the days between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. Sephardi Jews begin saying Selichot with the beginning of the month of Elul, while Ashkenazim only begin a few days before Rosh Hashana.
The Western Wall Heritage Foundation planned 17 central Selichot services for the thousands of worshippers expected this year, three of which have already taken place. The next scheduled central service is set to take place on Wednesday night.
While Selichot services are conducted every weeknight during the Jewish month of Elul and up until Yom Kippur, central services at the Western Wall are led by a cantor, with loudspeakers and screens set up in the plaza. The central services are also livestreamed on the Western Wall's website.
The Western Wall Heritage Foundation called on worshippers to come early in the month of Elul to Selichot services and not to wait until the end of the month and the days between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur in order to spread out the crowds for the safety and welfare for all visitors to the Western Wall.
WATCH: Thousands of Jewish worshippers gathered this week at Jerusalem’s Western Wall to attend "Selichot", a traditional prayer of repentance held just before the Jewish new year - Rosh Hashana - begins. Beautiful!
Selichot communal prayers are for Divine forgiveness, said during the High Holiday season or on Jewish fast days.
Due to the tremendous interest in participating in the central selichot services, the decision was made this year to hold fourteen events accompanied by a cantor and amplification in order to spread the crowds and make it possible for all who wish to participate to come. The selichot services will be broadcast live on the Foundation website for those who are not able to come to the Western Wall but who wish to participate in these moving services.
The Western Heritage Foundation: The recitation of selichot at the Western Wall Plaza unites the Jewish nation. All the various streams stand together pouring out their souls and accepting the yoke of the Kingdom of Heaven during these important days of atonement, calling out together - “O Master of Forgiveness, Examiner of Hearts, we have sinned before You, have mercy upon us.”
We call upon the public to come say selichot earlier in the month, and not only in the last days of selichot, in order to spread the crowds and maintain the health and safety of all who come to the Western Wall.

@@zahishaked so are you assuming their are two Messiah? Jesus fulfilled the old covenant and Isaiah prophesied that the Messiah HIMSELF would be the new covenant in Isaiah 42 verse 6. Jesus claimed to be eternal and that was exactly what Ezekiel saw ruling the throne of God in heaven, an eternal man (Ezekiel chapter 1) that came from heaven. Daniel spoke of this same eternal man in chapters 7-9. How is that not Jesus?
