Thank you once again from a septegenarian lady who would no longer manage the walk and the steep hills. I have never been to this castle and you took me around with you. Yes, a younger me would have tried to go up and up that tower! I used to visit Stonehenge when you could touch the stones as you did the castle walls. I feel the links with our past in old places. Please come back and take us with you, but also I love to go around the US with you to the old and mysterious places where people once were.
All castle spiral staircases rotate that way, so to put any body attacking you coming up the stairs at a disadvantage, if they where right handed as most people are.
As always, your videos rock. I've been a subscriber for almost 3 years and have enjoyed them all. When you get back to the States, please do another video with Lamont @ Large. Great duo you guys were on one of my favorite subjects with John Wilkes Booth.
LOVE the history!! Thanks for the tour!! Incredible the time frame!! The walk through with you is AMAZING, but there's nothing like being there in person!!
I don't know if you're still in the area, but Buxton and Chatsworth house are steeped in history & really worth a visit :) super cool to see you in Derbyshire!
"It's time we put the flame torch to their keep" a line from Elton John's "Burn Down the Mission". I now know what a keep is and why one would burn it. Thank you, I've loved that song since 1970. Great exploring, keep it up. Best regards from Indiana.
I couldn't help but think that each and every stone in those buildings needed to be carried up that hill - that in itself was quite an undertaking. Thank you Chris for this wonderful video. I love England and its history! You make it all the more "real".
Thank you, next time I'm in Derbyshire I'll visit the castle, what a beautiful setting. You might like to visit Crich Tramway museum in Matlock, Derbyshire, just under an hour from Castleton.
Great video, thanks Chris. It's amazing to think that the Romans were busily building advanced stone structures up and down the country nearly 1,000 years earlier, and that after their withdrawal, it was many hundreds of years before the knowledge necessary to perform the engineering work required to put such things together was re-learned. Heh, so the keep was like a medieval panic room.
this castle would have looked awesome from afar, back in its day, up on top of that hill. great video thank you for showing this. considering its an 11th century castle, its great that even parts of it and its surrounds still remain. amazing
Binge watching all your work. Love your channel. How about the filming area for ''American warewolf in London'' putting your own unique spin on it. There is some beautiful scenery in the Yorkshire Dales. Just subbed, great work, thank you
@Mobile Instinct 2 You should visit Bridgnorth on the severn in shropshire, it also has castle ruins from the 11th century, very interesting dramatic story surrounds it , it was destroyed by royalists during the civil war to keep the parliamentarians from gaining control, th part of the tower that is left leans at a degree greater than the leaning tower of pisa ... i'm American and lived there for 6 years theres also a very old church and cemetery outside of town named Tasley I'm pretty sure, theres a treasure trove for you there , hermitages that witches lived in , kids dying in the later great stuff if you want to know more hit me up
There are quite a few ruin castles in the uk . Nice to see you documenting British history and architecture. Hope your enjoying your time over here. 👍🏻
So do you think the lady in the shawl, looking out of the arched window at about 8:24 could be Lady Peveril surveying lost glory? ;) How odd that it was just an administrative building and hunting lodge. it looks like it was built for war, to withstand pounding by cannon and repel fierce invasion. I guess it was built to impress !
Wow 🤩 I love and enjoy your videos. You need to do one of the El Morro in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 the story about it is awesome and very educational. Keep up with the good work and educating us🙏🏼💙 God bless you.
ive seen you wandering around loads of places in the states, its nice to see you enjoy somewhere local to me you cant beat old castles,i could spend hours in them, i prefer the ruins to the restored ones
If you go to the Peak Cavern you may like to reflect on the loss of Neil Moss in the fifties . He was caving there and got stuck just like the guy in the Nutty Putty cave . All attempts to rescue him failed , his remains were never retrieved , he was sealed in where he died .
I wonder what your tittle is you prefer..? If any at all.. explorer..traveler.. adventurer.. instinctive hunter..as always thank you Sir.. it's kinda interesting thinking back in time when the last person that cared about that place walked off of that property...you know the difference between a great imaculate structure still standing today after 1000s of years .. as apposed 2 a ran down pile of ruble....... Who you leave in charge of it............ Excluding wars.. and betrayal..
Cool place! I am thinking that winters would have been rather unpleasant in that keep but maybe folks didnt spend much time in it during cold weather, except the poor soldiers who had to use it as a watchtower. Life wasnt nearly as pleasant back then. Thanks!!
They used to hang their clothes in the garderobe (toilet) because they thought the ammonia from pee kept the moths away. No idea if it stands up scientifically or not.
You should check out Chatsworth House . Nearby is the tiny village of Edensor where you will find St Peter's Church where lies buried is Kathleen “Kick” Kennedy the sister of JFK .
I'm enjoying your English history videos. Perhaps you should consider doing a European tour of some sort although I know that's a big commitment with your time and money

My mom was raised in England. I've never been. Thank you for all your doing while there. I love it as usual. Your the best!
All castle spiral staircases rotate that way, so to put any body attacking you coming up the stairs at a disadvantage, if they where right handed as most people are.
try Conisbrough Castle, it's about 45 mins east of there.
You are so sweet, kind and humble. I love your videos and have for years. Thank you!
Thanks for that great view and tour of an old castle. Such history in England.
Very pleasant setting with rolling hills and trees around the castle ruins.
Beautiful countryside as well. Thanks for sharing.

God bless you.
Lots of the stones from that castle have probably been robbed out and used in the building in the town.
Dang, you beat me to it. I was going to comment pretty much the same thing.
A lot of the stone was used in dry stone walling around the region .
Fantastic!! Thank you so much!!
ive seen you wandering around loads of places in the states, its nice to see you enjoy somewhere local to me
you cant beat old castles,i could spend hours in them, i prefer the ruins to the restored ones
Awesome castle ruins
A great video thank you.
Your awesome and ty for sharing!
I hope you walked up Winnats Pass. It's a crazy leg workout. You're about a 15 minute drive from my house here.

So close to Holmfirth, could you do a quick "Last Of The Summer Wine" video?
I would’ve loved to see it all in its glory. If only I could turn invisible and use a time machine 😝
chris have you noticed that our english accent changes every 50 miles?
As well in the states too,but maybe every couple hundred miles.
You should check out Chatsworth House .

Wish we could see it restored.
I now have a Monty Python movie tune stuck in my head 😆😂
Nice thanks
Quite Lovelay! innit!
Deep Digger Dan does videos like this now. I like them.
Why are some of those stones hollowed in?
where did the horses & chickens be for travel & food-
That's silly to think at one time thru the ages people trotted up and down them stairs to use the conveniences...😏
Wow🏰
Damm seems once Lord Farquaad died Duloc got hit hard
Beautiful and the US has nothing to compare.
By the power of Grayskull!!
Head upto Scotland you will not be disappointed
not anything much cooler than a good castle
Agreed

Great commentary, thank you. Nice NOT to be blasted with idiotic music. Veronique.
