    Ive had a stock turbo, gt3071r, upgraded stock turbo and now the BNR S4 I would say I like this turbo the best. It makes the car have this attitude I love it and crazy fast!!!!!!!

    Nice vid. I prefer to pull the 2x 10mm bolts from the primary EGR instead of removing the exhaust manifold, but both methods have their benefits.

      Sounds like you have installed one of these. I have an S4 ready to install and rather not remove the manifold. Any advise is appreciated. Thank you.

      @EdgeAutosport  8 років тому +2

      +Sal Mafi If you remove the EGR valve and the battery tray, you can install the turbo from the driver's side without taking the manifold off. I suggest installing an EGR blockoff instead of putting the EGR valve back on but it's up to you.

      I would like to do that but I live in California. Smog laws are so strict here. Would disconnecting the valve have the same effect?

    Just wanted to come back and thank you for this video.
    I used this video and Corksport's instructions together to do my S4 install. I chose to remove and install through the intake side, via Battery and EGR removal. It's work getting the k04 out and more work getting the S4 in that way. But, it's done. 👌

  • @guitarmatt0867

    You made that look so easy. I wish the speed 6 was as easy to get to everything as the 3, because I would have already done this, since my K04 has seen better days and barely makes any boost.

    I am installing actually a Corksport turbo in my 2008 speed 3. I’m having some trouble getting to the first five downpipe bolts on top. But my question is do you absolutely need to get underneath the car to unbolt the turbo?

    LOVE my BNR S3 on my 2010 Genpu. How does this stack up in terms of ultimate power it'll support, boost threshold, and transient response? The S3 will support 380whp before needing supplemental fueling, and some have pushed it really hard to over 420. If I WOT @ 3,000, I'm at 20+psi by 3,250, and transient response is excellent.
    You say the S4 is capable of 400whp, but so is the S3, which is also more responsive. With the GT3076 compressor wheel on the S4, it'll obviously have a higher max flow rate. So would this be good to 450whp? 475whp (with supporting mods, of course)? If someone only wants 400, the S3 could be viable...

      Numinous lol 😂 I like how you definitely know your stuff, you definitely ha e more knowledge in this bnr turbo then myself but I was able to follow you just fine and I still find it funny how no response was Given to your comment. Basically in sort... you outsmarted them and pushed harder on earlier model when they say they can only push 4 with the next step😂. It’s funny to me.

    Is it okay to drive a BNR STAGE I without a tune?? Is it basically just a stock replacement?

    • @guitarmatt0867
      @guitarmatt0867 6 років тому

      Drew L no, if you decide on going big turbo contact a e-tuner for a custom tune but first you would need a cobb accessport or versatuner for tuning capabilities. A great choice of turbo though, I’m thinking about it for my speed6 but it’s a little more difficult of an install due to the awd set up/transfer case being in the way of the install from the bottom.

    you dont prime the lines or the turbo for this install? Jus run it dry and let the oil feed system lube it up as it goes?

    Is 400whp w this turbo possible on 93 pump w/o meth injection with the proper tune and supporting mods?

    • @EdgeAutosport
      @EdgeAutosport  8 років тому +2

      Not really, and even if it is, you're going to be too close to any limits of that fueling which is dangerous. Pump gas really wasn't made to make a lot of power and shouldn't be treated as such. If you don't want meth injection, I suggest using a mixture of about 25-30% ethanol in your tank and you can stretch the limits of the turbo much easier and safer.

    Hey Alan, I was wondering what kind of BOV you have or recommend since I prefer fully vent to atmosphere. But I'm scared because when manufacturer make it recirculating to intake it's for a reason. I just don't want to mess with air fuel ratios or mess anything up. What would you recommend for long life of a semi abused 2013 ms3..Thanks!

    • @EdgeAutosport
      @EdgeAutosport  8 років тому

      It's completely fine to run an atmospheric blowoff valve on the MS3. You're right, there is a reason for recirculating but it's not a big enough reason to resist your urge for a vented BOV. Go for it. The HKS is a great one, we've used it on one of our build and it's a very high quality valve that you don't have to adjust or maintain. The Tial Q is also very popular, you need to pick the right spring based on your vacuum reading. We recently put on a Go Fast Bits SV50 on our Focus ST and I like that one a lot but there aren't any bolt on options for that. You'd have to get a pipe custom flanged for that with the flange that comes with the valve. Let us know if you have any other questions. All 3 of the valves I mentioned are available through the site!

      @motivationalwealth777 8 років тому

      Edge Autosport . I guess my last question to you would be if with the turbo,intake, exhaust and down pipe would you need to run upgraded fuel pump internals. Or with your exact setup what's the max we can push before needing more fuel? This would be for daily use 80% of the time. Again I thank you for your knowledge and experience.

    • @EdgeAutosport
      @EdgeAutosport  8 років тому

      You would 100% need fuel pump upgraded at that point. There is no exact setup for when you need them. If you want to make over 275whp, I'd plan the upgrade before you go past that.

    • @EdgeAutosport

    I saw the dyno videos that showed in excess of 400 wheel torque with 24psi on the S4. Isin't that beyond what the stock internals can take? Did the dyno Mazdaspeed had a build engine with forged internals?

    • @EdgeAutosport
      @EdgeAutosport  7 років тому +3

      It's not beyond what the factory engine can do, but it depends. If it's tuned safely enough and you don't abuse the car too much, it can last a while. But it typically doesn't last as long as a stock car would. Just like any modified vehicle though, there isn't one answer about what something can or can't do.

    what size was the coupler that u guys used ? and did the stock coupler fit where the turbo and intercooler meet .?

    • @EdgeAutosport
      @EdgeAutosport  8 років тому

      +11ufcfighter This car had a 3.5" HTP Intake and the BNR has a 3" compressor inlet. So, the coupler here was a 3.5" to 3.0" reducer. Whatever you have it needs to be 3.0" to whatever intake tube size you have. For the turbo to intercooler coupler, yes, the stock one fits and we actually used it in this car in the video.

    • @11ufcfighter
      @11ufcfighter 8 років тому

      +Edge Autosport oh ok thank u! and what size clamps would u guys use for a coupler that's straight 3 inch for the turbo to the intake?

    • @EdgeAutosport
      @EdgeAutosport  8 років тому

      +11ufcfighter Clamps are obviously not one diameter, but you just need to get a clamp that's advertised to fit a 3" pipe or make sure that the range is equally above and below the range of 3" so that it has good coverage for clamping down and loosening up.

    The HTP 3.5 fits the BNR S4 as well as the K04?

    • @EdgeAutosport
      @EdgeAutosport  8 років тому +2

      +arcade16 Definitely! All you need to do is get the correct coupler to mate the 3.5" pipe to whatever turbo you're running. The intake will fit with all stock location turbos, as long as you're using the appropriate couplers. If you ever switch turbos, all you need is a different coupler.

    Is this BNR S4 Turbo reliable on a MS3 with stock internals? How much mm is the Turbo and how much whp is it good for?

    • @EdgeAutosport
      @EdgeAutosport  8 років тому

      +Devonte Murray It CAN be reliable to a point. It depends on how hard you are on your car, because any car fails from constant abuse at some point. You also need a tune that will promote reliability. It's similar to a GT3076 which has a 76mm compressor wheel and a 58mm turbine wheel. I don't know the exact specs though. It's definitely good for around 400-425whp while staying mostly efficient.

    • @panamera53

      Edge Autosport Is the BNR S3 good for stock internals? I'm curious to know cause I might consider a MS3 in the near future.

    • @EdgeAutosport
      @EdgeAutosport  8 років тому

      +Devonte Murray I would really answer that the same way I did on the S4. They are both fine on stock internals if tuned properly and the engine hasn't been abused previously. As with any upgraded turbo car though, nothing is guaranteed.

      Easy to some, not easy to others. If you have experience working on cars, it's really not that crazy of an install. Usually a 4-5 hour process for someone that really knows what they're doing. 6-7 hours for a guy that doesn't have a ton of Mazdaspeed or modding experience. This video is pretty complete to be honest!

      @EdgeAutosport  8 років тому +2

      Hey Polo! Thanks for the comment! There are a handful of good turbos available that are easy to install, including this one. It really just depends on your goals and preferences. The Garrett turbos are ball bearing so they will spool well for how big they are and much air they can flow. The BNR S3 and S4 are great turbos for being able to spool quickly and still maintain a decent level of top end airflow. The choice is yours. The good news is, we only sell good turbos on our website so you can't be steered a wrong direction through us. :) Let us know if you have any other specific questions.
