Sometimes I feel like this filmmaking thing is just not for me but something keeps bringing me back to it...this video just gave me the boost I needed. Thank you
I love the last lines of Coppola there, that's the key. Anyone can do a beautiful film with enough passion and drive. Don't matter what quality of camera.
This is one one of my favorite UA-cam videos! Please make a part 2! There are lots of other filmmakers with more great advice like Brad Bird, Gareth Evans, George Lucas, John Woo, etc. Great video and advice, this is very inspiring. My advice to anybody is on your computer, have a folder that's labeled "Movie Inspiration". So when you have writer's block or you can't think of something to help you move forward as a film-maker; you can have this folder. Put some of your favorite movie scenes in there, or an interview of your favorite actor/director, and even a video like this that helps you get inspired.
Man this is so awesome. I remember when I watched this last year for the first time. Been making films and writing so much since. "Just fucking do it" -Ridley Scott
I found that video last week, and i've been waching it many times a day. This is the best motivation and inspirational video for film makers. When you want to quit, remember to watch that video. Those great directors are inspiering to me. They're the reason why i'm doing this, and i feel like they're talking to me. Thanks for posting this. I'll keep it in my favorits. And lets make films...
OMG THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO. IM SO ENCOURAGED!!! You have NO IDEA.. All the fears I have/had were mentioned in this short video. Thank you thank thank you.
I appreciate how most of the advice from these professionals is an honest “Just get out there and do it.” Because as simple as it may seem, it is so damn true. Just take the step. One leap into another.
this is the best youtube video I have seen. I have always wanted to be an video maker sense I was three, it have always been a dream for me it still is.
the problem I found, having worked on many indie films as an actor, is that the story telling skills are very poor among new film makers. yes, anyone can buy a camera and start shooting, but the biggest thing to learn is the story. just about all the films i worked on were crap, by many different film makers, to be honest, because the biggest part of film making ,, the story, just wasnt there. my advice, before picking up a camera, would be to learn how to write a story, otherwise youll be shooting crap, no matter how cool the lighting is, or whatever. its amazing how many new novice film makers just don't bother to learn to write and think they can just wing it.
It's s not 'make a movie', yes that's easy in comparison, I truly believe the production phase is all nerves and instinct. It's the writing, when you're starting out, the story has to come from you (or if you live in a film centre city and collab/meet writers/find/buy scripts) but for the most part it's - write a feature. Shorts aren't really calling cards in the same way they used to unless you really market them. The biggest hurtle is writing, paying rent/surviving through development...then hopefully (after rewrites and script consultation) by pre-pro you're so high on the story that sheer tenacity allows you to fund it and get it in the can. But I honestly think most people are stuck at the writing/initial momentum phase....a phase where 'go make a movie' is almost hard to hear....unless your Malick and just say 'fuck the script'
This video has given me motivation more than once. So much now that I've lunched a series on "How to Become A Film Director" on Symon Says TV. Go check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/wiRobWHEThs/v-deo.html
This video makes me cry. I can't wait until I make my movies, I have to hurry before I become a mom someday if I do become a mother my boyfriend/ husband will take over for me making my movies.
Atom Films THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUU THIS IS LITERALLY THE BEST IVE HEARD!! Thanks, and maybe when I get my video done, maybe you guys can you know, show it in here or summ?
Hey Joshua, it depends where you are based. If you're in the US, you can find both Older Than Ireland and The Irish Pub on Amazon Prime. Thanks for your interest!!
Tomy What they're saying is true. I've published 11 movies to my main channel and have worked on somewhere around 20 projects in total, all since this March. And shit, I have learned a lot. The only way to get better at making movies is to make movies.
This is a video about "advice to filmmakers". Not about their methods of directing. Giving you specific information about what they do in their work will mean nothing, if you don't have the basic foundation of what it means to be a creator. That's what these videos are about. Secondly, directing (especially when you're on the creative level of these directors) is not a strict discipline. There is no one way to do it, and is incredibly individual-specific. You can have an actor work with 20 directors, and they will all be completely different styles of working.telling a story. The only way to find out how _you_ work, what works, and what doesn't, is (again) by doing it yourself. If you want a directing master class or something, there are seminars and other places you can look.
Thank you for his video I watch every time i get discouraged
Gesar Dorji me too

Myself. From today. :)

Greatest advise to give new flim makers is that do the exact opposite what M night says
Wish me luck
Very inspirational, I’ll be filming my porn this week. My sister will be assisting me
You've watched this video too many times. It's about time to go and make your fucking film.
I'm tired of them always giving the same advice
Tomy What they're saying is true. I've published 11 movies to my main channel and have worked on somewhere around 20 projects in total, all since this March. And shit, I have learned a lot. The only way to get better at making movies is to make movies.
you can find some of kubrick doing it
