ok now try doing instant block against a high level player to is trying to mix you up. do that then you can claim that instant block is easy. you showed you have no combat experience. Lab rats cant claim something is easy till they do it in a match constantly. anyone can pull off a instant block in a controlled environment. But doing it while thinking about your own offense and trying to keep up with what the other guy is doing isnt that easy. It's why you rarely see it in high level play.
So true... I watch videos of top players all the time and never see IB;s, Johnathan Tene, or should I say CHEATathan Tene, is rumored to be using stick modifications to auto time insant blocks for him.. .goes to show who yuo can really trust... 🐳thats just the way the cookie crumbles...
WE FORGOT TO PUT IN AXL LOL Vs axl IB his 2D after 2K and dash block so that snail is in its dead zone and whiffs, and you can jump rainwater and get a punish! If he doesn't cancel into rainwater then his 2D is -9 so you can punish with your own 2K.
I love these clear and concise explanations, with cleanly-demonstrated examples. These would do numbers as UA-cam Shorts! Super attention-grabbing titles wouldn't even be clickbait if you delivered on them in under a second; "How to beat Ram Rekka" -> Clip of you getting an IB and punishing -> extended explanation if the viewer ""stuck around"" (didn't click off after literally 3 seconds). Rinse and repeat, you've got so many characters! Or even just one short for "how to beat every character in strive with one button" -> quick explanation of IB and IBFD showing each pushback -> rapid-fire examples of punishing zato, nago, ram, HC, those would compact really well!
this vid has helped out a ton in terms of being able to applying the mechanic in actual matches instead of just being able to do it in training mode, you da best jnasty ✊
For Nago, I think it's also important to try and IB f.SS when he has really high blood (2.5+ bars) instead of IBFD. That way, he can't spend his blood on specials to make it safe, and he's -8 in your face so you can punish accordingly. He'd have to gamble with f.SSS or a blood move to hope you get hit and escape the situation.
You are going to get command grabbed. Imo always ibfd it, at least as a layer one. If he’s high blood and you ibfd, he can’t command grab, so his only options are finish string, blood move->pop, or wait while you pull up on him and start your offense. All of those are winning for you as the defender, and carry no risk for you unless he has meter.
@@arbaman4676 I get where you're coming from and I like your reasoning, although you can definitely mash a 5 frame button and CH him before his bite comes out if you IB f.SS. IB is also useful in interrupting f.SS > clone > fukyo approaches since you're close enough to hit him between f.SS and clone.
I have a tip for anybody trying to IBFD: use held inputs. Pretty much every time I'm waking up, I try to IBFD just like is advocated in this video. But the way I do it to make sure I never get an accidental normal or have to worry about the slim timing of the IB AND hitting FD at the right time is using held inputs for FD. So as I'm getting up, I'm holding down, P, and HS and so I just have to focus on tapping downback from there to get an IBFD. I also do this when im trying to fd in general whether on wakeup or if I'm trying to IBFD or not cuz I don't even want to get hit on FD startup by accidentally pressing a normal.
I recently started trying to IB more(stil suck at it), but wasn't sure on which move on every characterer it's worth it, this video is gold, thank you tene.
This video is amazing especially knowing there’re examples for all characters I believe that’s what instant blocking needs is to be understood through common character blockstrings as pulling this off in neutral becomes more of predicting an attack and dash instant blocking it -example nagos level 2 5H- other then that if you were to use this without having the knowledge of specific character blockstrings to time it then pray your built like hotashi
Wow such a great guide! I've been working on my instant blocking for a little while now but I only play millia. Knowing what to watch out for by my opponents is going to help a ton while practicing, thanks a lot! (still very inconsistent at it but I can generally get 1 per match now.)
the only ib/ibfd i've been making consistent use of is against nago's f.ss. a huge huge help in the matchup and not even that difficult to get the timing down.
I think more than slept on, it's just a really hard mechanic to pull off consistently, so many players would leave this as one of the last mechanics to practice
I think that IBing the follow ups for Sin's mix specials (Hoof Stomp and Elk Hunt) can be a pretty good idea since they are designed to keep him safe via pushback but are still minus
Do you IBFD by tapping back and FD at the same time or holding FD and tapping back? On wakeup, holding FD and doing it is free but for strings where you need to react fast I find it hard to hold it and tap back in time. Am I just slow?
There's no requirement for when you start holding down the FD macro/two buttons as long as you time the IB correctly. It's easiest to just hold it down beforehand.
@@suicune5260 there's been times I've gone for IBFD but inputted the FD a few frames too late resulting in me getting regular IB. Ideally I'd want to hold it beforehand but some strings feel too fast for me to react unless I'm FDing already which is why I ask
Thats great and all, but first we must actually nail an Instant block. Its why its slept on. Too hard to think about. Instant blocking is a very specific intention and even when you intend it at a very predictable moment coming from your opponent, even then you still have to hit the instant block...
Idk what you mean slept on. The players I watch always talk about using instant blocks for specific punishes. Maybe that's just because goldlewis needs it.
amazing video. tell us how to fight against a character while you'Re at it!!! it'd be good. they always tell you how to play a character but not how to fight it like this video did
Why have you turned off your inputs? You're doing IB's perfectly every time you demonstrate the IB, and claim a 2 frame window against attacks with variable timings is easy? Show your inputs bubba.
really good vid, do you have info on what the game's restriction on mashing IB is? I like IBing goldlewis's machinegun but occasionally i just get jackshit in spite of tapping back
You just gotta block once and then be prepared to Instant block Keep your Eye on the ball Man thats awesome you just changed my strive gameplay. Im about to make a video for my own personal lesser known sekiro mechanics so this is inspirational 🥲😎👍

Nooo my man Axl got forgor :(
Not surprising. Still sad. 😢
Axl is just that forgettable that we both didn't notice
I love the content Jnasty. Please do more! I would love a nago defense guide.

Ram mains HATE him for using this one weird trick!
Its really crazy how I was JUST practicing IB yesterday. We live in a simulation
I see what you did there
so much great information on your channel, binging it now, Sad it took me so long to find it. Keep it up man

LMAO at the DK "okay!" on Leo
Great video, would love to see some more applications of both IB and IBFD
woke up today wanting to nail IBs so this is a great primer, ty!
Nice job, very thorough and easy to understand. Looking forward to your next video. Poll might help with deciding on the next video.

worth noting that c.S/5k on baiken are both TK overhead/low mixes everytime
Let's go more tene content
Loved the video, could you do a part 2 for the missing characters? Thanks in advance!
Tene with a new banger
I actually have determined that it's impossible to beat Nago consistently without IBFD
Nago might just get much worse after this shit gets meta (it will at some point and you know it).
@@solarsloan yeah prolly will
it however, becomes incredibly easy to beat Ram with them
This is so cool thanks gonna practice this.

For those who play Mortal Kombat it's like flawless block. I get a bunch of them in GG but it's almost never intentionally tbh
Can I get a confirmation on the input? Does IB have to be from neutral? You can't do it from, say, 2?
You can hold 2 instead of 5
