It is a Perineal Tree, plants can be maintained till 15 to 20 years. Selective variety of ODC. We visited number of ODC drumstick farms located in different states of India, from these farms we brought 45 samples and planted in our own farm in 2012. It is a pureline selection developed by continuous selfing for six generations. . It was released in the year 2017. In each generation, we observed different characteristic of plants i.e. flowering season, fertilizer application, water requirement, pod set, taste, size, weight and yield but only desirable characters are selected and advanced. Through this search we had selected few plants of having special characteristics. The pods are fleshy and tasty. It comes to flowering within 3-4 months of sowing and comes to harvest in 5-6 months. The plants grow to a height of 8 - 10 feet in a year and produce 6-10 primary branches. The pinnate leaves are about 40 cm long with small leaflets which are dark green on the upper side and pale green on the lower side. Though the flowers are in clusters of 50 - 200 / cluster, only one pod develops usually and rarely 3-5 develop per cluster. The pods are 2 feet to 2.5 feet long with a girth of 2.5 inch and weigh 70 to 80 grams with 80 % flesh. The average yield of the variety is 300 pods / tree. The estimated yield is around 20 tons per acre. The pods attain edible maturity 65 days after flowering. Ratoon crops can be maintained for 10- 15 years. After every year the trees have to be cut back to 3 feet from ground level.

The below is the procedure to get off seasonal yield. 1. Sowing should be done between 30th April to 31th May. 2. Germination will be started from the 10th day after sowing and the pinching will be done when the plants reach 2 feet tall and subsequent pinching will be done 25 days after the first pinching. (This helps the tree to form a umbrella like shape which induces more branching followed by better holding capacity of the tree for flowering and poding.) 3. The crop has to be sprayed with the chemicals 0.5 % nitrobenzene at the rate of two sprays during the 70th day and 85th day. 4. The crop has to be sprayed with HB-101 plant vitalizer at the rate of two sprays during the 55th day and 100th day. 4. The crop will come to flowering from 85 to 90 days after sowing. 5. Physiological parameters like total chlorophyll content, soluble protein, nitrate reeducates activity and relative water content had significant effect on the off-season flower induction and pod set. 6. The above combination of chemicals spray would induce flower initiation by bud formation and onset of flowering. 7. This could induce the off-season production of moringa during November to February. This fetches good price in the market. The rainfall if coincides with flowering could induce dropping of flowers but later dates after flowering will not affect the pod set and pod yield. 8. Flower should not be allowed before last week of September 9. Plenty of FYM should be given as a basal dose 10. Flower can be induced by giving mild stress to plant ie. stop water or give less water, this activity should be done the second week of September 11. The first week of September, 5-10 kg of Poultry Yard Manure can be applied to each plant, this PYM generates soil heat which help the plants to flower. 12. All these activities to be recorded in your farm database with date, even if you fail in the first year, you can succeed in the next year by adjusting the time.

Yes, Moringa green fodder is to be chaffed in to small pieces of 2-3 cm size through manual or power chaff cutter for feeding to dairy animals. 15-20 kg chaffed green fodder of moringa can be fed daily to one animal after mixing it with dry or other cereal green fodder.
It can be sown during spring and autumn seasons as it ensures good germination and proper establishment of seedlings. Moringa sowing must be avoided during rainy season to prevent seedling damages due to excess moisture and water stagnation in fields.

No vvariety of drumstick in the world gives 12 month production. Plant also need rest period.. Two crop , each crop 4 months so total 8 months you can get production , then 4 months rest period. if any one says moringa gives yield all 12 month then that is cheating
May , june and july are the best months for the plantation, However, looking to the physiology of the plant; moringa grows more vigorously under bright sun light rather than cloudy weather. The ODC3 is propagated through seeds and the seeds are directly dibbled in the pit to ensure accelerated and faster growth of the seedlings. This variety can be planted in any season with assured irrigation. But May to July is the best season for fresh planting. The time of sowing has to be strictly adhered to because the flowering phase should not coincide with monsoon rains which may result heavy flower shedding. Moringa plant grows well during dry conditions rather than humid
It can be done in smaller area, but do not cultivate any vartiety of moringa in larger area in kerala, you dont get anything, Moringa is profitable for the regioin where unseasonal production possible..

Yes, Moringa green fodder is to be chaffed in to small pieces of 2-3 cm size through manual or power chaff cutter for feeding to dairy animals. 15-20 kg chaffed green fodder of moringa can be fed daily to one animal after mixing it with dry or other cereal green fodder.

It can be sown during spring and autumn seasons as it ensures good germination and proper establishment of seedlings. Moringa sowing must be avoided during rainy season to prevent seedling damages due to excess moisture and water stagnation in fields.

Round the year if there is no moonsoon or climate change (100 percent not possible) other wise two times flowers in a year. There is no such variety in the world which give production round the year..

No vvariety of drumstick in the world gives 12 month production. Plant also need rest period.. Two crop , each crop 4 months so total 8 months you can get production , then 4 months rest period. if any one says moringa gives yield all 12 month then that is cheating

May , june and july are the best months for the plantation, However, looking to the physiology of the
plant; moringa grows more vigorously under bright sun light rather than cloudy weather.
The ODC3 is propagated through seeds and the seeds are directly dibbled in the pit to ensure
accelerated and faster growth of the seedlings. This variety can be planted in any season with
assured irrigation. But May to July is the best season for fresh planting. The time of sowing has
to be strictly adhered to because the flowering phase should not coincide with monsoon rains
which may result heavy flower shedding. Moringa plant grows well during dry conditions rather
than humid

It can be done in smaller area, but do not cultivate any vartiety of moringa in larger area in kerala, you dont get anything, Moringa is profitable for the regioin where unseasonal production possible..
