Oh my god. The worse-played flopped set ever with 88.
A bet on the flop charges the straight and flush draws and gets calls from A-high. The A-high then hits his A on turn and pays there. If he completes a flush (less-likely because he doesn't have AS in his hand), you're hoping for a paired board.
You're only hitting a set 1/8 the time and if you're not betting it, then when will you bet it for value? once every sixteenth of the time? The time to bet your hand is when you make it. Maybe if you're short-stack in a tournament you check against an agro behind to punish a bluff.
Imagine if he had flopped bottom set or two-pair You would have left so much money on the table.

Regarding the 88 set hand, I would just bet 1/2 to 2/3 pot and try to get money in. Low stakes live players generally aren’t going to find the bluffs needed, but they’ll find plenty of worse calls, so I wouldn’t slow play here. Good luck and I’ll be watching

I love your humor and style, I think it lends itself well to a wider audience. However, I find myself getting lost in a lot of the technical jargon and strategy as a college dorm poker player.
To this end, I think a series of videos introducing/teaching concepts with a lot of jokes would be really useful and popular. Maybe a set of videos that serves as an intro to poker (especially higher level play), and then a series of videos dedicated to specific strategies and concepts?
Just a thought but I could see you becoming a hub for accessible, funny poker videos for people who aren’t in the usual “scene.”

I agree with the other guy! Your editing and writing are leagues better than similar channels, but it's hard to follow as someone newly interested in the game.
If you don't want to do explainers, maybe consider just having pop-up cards that define the terms as you're saying them for the first time in each video.
I really think you could do great with non-poker people through humor and good editing, especially if you make reels/tiktoks of your best hands without getting lost in jargon.

I would have bet atleast once on that pocket 88. I usually go for small cbets (like 1/3 of a pot), so thats what I would have done. I would have probably bet the turn as well, because the A is more likely in my opponents range. Idk if it is right or wrong though. 7 on river is not very good card for you, because it completes TJ straight and also some other straights that might have been in your opponents range, so I would just check and pray he wont lead, cuz that would likely indicate something strong.

Can someone explain what he means at 4:25 “considering my opponent was in the Big Blind, there’s going to be a lot of flushes in his range.”
This sounds as if your position at the table has an effect on the suits you will be dealt, which doesn’t make sense (i’m assuming this isn’t what he means).

    • @thats70sraptor30
      @thats70sraptor30 2 місяці тому +1

Because the big blind is forced to bet regardless, often times people will play with a wider variety of hands. Suited hands are favorable for "just in case" flushes, so something like 97 spades, which might normally be folded in another position, could still actually be in play for someone in the blinds.

I am going to be brutally honest here, the whole concept of naming raises, 3 bet, 4 bet, etc sounds extremely dumb to me. Just say they raised. These labels are completely unnecessary

Love your videos. Also appreciate that you don’t clickbait/overhype your video titles like Brad Owen does. Every single video of his is a variation of “I win the BIGGEST POTS while playing the HIGHEST STAKES I’ve ever played at. MUST SEE”. or something to that effect,

Ive had many bad nights playing the loose-aggressive guy hard. Whenever I do I think about all of the coolers Id have dodged by playing my normal game. Such is the way of getting decent odds and accepting them.
Nice session. Stay lucky and stay strong.

What does your coach think about you playing at the $1/$2 tables….? Those games are miserable IMHO. It’s a lot harder than it sounds to beat suckers who are there to just have fun and “shove in”

Good content! Glad you won. Don’t dwell on the set of 8 hand, because it ran out badly. Just be glad they weren’t cracked. If you insist on not letting it go and tormenting yourself because of hindsight poker……….then yup, I’d have to say a better player would’ve made more money.

On the 88, I personally would have lead out for 1/2ish pot trying to buy the hand like I'm an Ace high/overpair. If he's as aggressive as you think, he might think he can bully you out and you're more likely to get a raise/continuation on the turn. Depending on my image the 1/2 might move a bit up or down. If they've seen me small cbet on iffy boards and take it down, I probably do the same thing here as I did before.
HOWEVER, I fully concede that based on your dialog in the videos I've seen that you're a better player than I am so ehh, I might be mistaken. I'm a fan of trying to build a pot early there. I think the flush draw has a decent chance of semi-bluff raising you on the flop and you can call or 3 bet. That turn card basically ends the hand though.
EDIT: The JT 4 to a straight board is a clear call unless one of those guys is a rock.

The set of eights hand is tricky. Being out of position makes it even harder. I guess you could argue that it is a sin to flop a set and then not build a big pot, but with your read and the way the board ran out, I think I'll accept your reasoning for your decisions. It's been many years since I played, so I'm more than a bit rusty, so maybe don't put too much stock into my opinion.
