    Looking forward to seeing what more you can do with FDRS. I only ever used it at the dealership for boring module installation and diagnostics, nothing aftermarket of course. It's better than IDS, but still has issues, It monitors everything you are doing and ties it to your user account. You also need to have an internet connection for it to work at all, so no diagnostics in the middle of nowhere, haha. Some of the programming/updates took over 24 hours, which was ridiculous in a busy shop.

    Thanks for this video, I have had a blacked out SYNC screen for a week and done all the hard reset protocols. Dealer is worthless and won't even try to re install the software. Do you think it's possible to fix a bug by using this method and just reformatting the SYNC system?

    Hi Ragnar, Thanks for your video. Can you let me know are you using window 10 or window 11 to program FDRS? The reason I ask you because the website Motorcraft said required window 10. Thank you very much.

    Thanks for the video! I’m also curious about Ford PTS and how I could get into that. Any suggestions? (F150 Lightning owner).

    • @RagnarKon
      @RagnarKon  5 місяців тому

      That's available on the Motorcraft website as well: www.motorcraftservice.com/Purchase/ViewProduct
      I believe It is a slightly stripped down version of PTS. As far as I know the "full" version of PTS is only available to Ford employees, Ford/Lincoln dealerships, students enrolled in a New Ford Tech program, and some fleet/supplier partners.

    Have you used FDRS to recalibrate 360 cameras or parking sensors? Just got a new mirror replaced, and now it's throwing a B1578 DTC on my F150.

    • @RagnarKon
      @RagnarKon  2 місяці тому +1

      I have. Parking sensors don’t have a ton of calibration to them tbh, but yeah… you can calibrate the cameras.

    • @homehome5437
      @homehome5437 2 місяці тому

      @@RagnarKon Thanks for the reply!! I'll give it a try this weekend... Not sure if you have any experience with lifted vehicles and if that factors into the calibration. According to the repair shop that tried the calibration after replacing the mirror, said the calibration failed because the truck was lifted and the values were off. So ford had to do it... All I can find so far is a setting for Wheel arch height in IPMA 706-25-02 where I can adjust for the lift but not sure what else that would affect.

    • @RagnarKon
      @RagnarKon  2 місяці тому

      @@homehome5437 I have calibrated a lifted truck but its been quite a long time and I'm sure the process has changed. Lately I've only done factory ride heights.
      In the early days of 360 cameras you had to place calibration mats on the ground for it to work properly on lifted vehicles... not sure if that's still the case on the more modern vehicles though.

    Curious would this be useable to change the ACM Eq profile and speaker profiles? And Enable the sub channel in a Bronco? Have a former Ford tech in the family so they will likely have access to the tools/software to help me with my audio upgrades etc... or is forscan a better tool for this?

    • @RagnarKon
      @RagnarKon  4 місяці тому

      I don't believe you can use it to turn off the EQ profile on the Bronco, but it can do everything else-modify the speaker profile and enable the sub channel.

    Can i program a new pcm (2022 on a 2023) myself using fdrs and a Mongose cable? Some online stores were offering remote programming but for some reason they removed it
    Also keyfob programming.

    • @RagnarKon
      @RagnarKon  3 дні тому

      @@aurelion3 FDRS can do both.
      But keyfob programming is restricted to dealers and licensed locksmiths to help prevent vehicle theft. So if you don’t have a special login you won’t be able to do it.

    • @aurelion3
      @aurelion3 3 дні тому

      Thanks for the reply, Is the keyfob programming possible remotely? I don't know anyone willing to do that in my region.

    • @RagnarKon
      @RagnarKon  3 дні тому

      @@aurelion3 Don’t know. I don’t work at a dealer and I’m not a locksmith. There is a set of rules they have to abide by so they don’t lose their license and/or business insurance, but I’m not familiar with any of that.
      If you have two keyfobs you can program a third or fourth yourself without any software-instructions in the user manual. But if only have one fob or lost all of them you’ll need a locksmith.

    • @aurelion3
      @aurelion3 3 дні тому

      @@RagnarKon I Appreciate your attention, I wanted to program a new PCM so I believe I will need to program the two original keys to work with the new PCM.

    • @RagnarKon
      @RagnarKon  3 дні тому +1

      @@aurelion3 if this is a brand new PCM, then yes… you’ll have to reprogram PATS (security system) after the PCM itself is programmed.
      If you are just reprogramming the existing PCM, then sometimes PATS program isn’t required.

    Do you have a video on updating the apim firmware? I retrofitted the 12" screen into my 21 F150 XL with a new apim and im locked out of OTA's. Also means i dont have the full screen android auto which is the whole reason i wanted the bigger screen.

    • @RagnarKon
      @RagnarKon  Місяць тому

      @@Kevlar1214 I do, but it won’t help in your case.
      FDRS uses the VIN of the vehicle to determine what updates it needs to install, so if you were to connect FDRS it would read your VIN and think you have the standard XL screen, not the 12” screen.
      You either have to connect your APIM to a vehicle that has the 12” screen option, or start playing tricks like changing your vehicles VIN (which cannot be done with FDRS).

    • @Kevlar1214
      @Kevlar1214 Місяць тому

      @RagnarKon So the settings for the 12" screen is something you can reconfigure in the APIM with forscan. I saw a few posts of people who were successful with it I just haven't seen a guide on doing it yet.

    Can we use a UCDS cable which is j2534 compatible

    • @RagnarKon
      @RagnarKon  20 днів тому

      Anything with J2534 should work, but obviously Ford only guarantees that their own adapters work.
      I've never used UCDS, but some J2534 adapters are poor quality.

      You are 100% correct.
      However, Microsoft no longer sells Windows 10 to anyone except businesses, and Windows 10 support ends in October.
      Windows 11 is what I use and (thus far) has worked fine.

    I updated the PCM software on a 2021 Ford explorer. And now there is a bunch of stuff that's wrong. It's there any way to undo it?

    • @RagnarKon
      @RagnarKon  3 місяці тому

      Not really, you'd have to do a PMI. That doesn't really "undo" anything, it just reinitializes the module and may or may not work.

  • @DW-Truck
    @DW-Truck 3 місяці тому

    I enabled some features with Forscan, I’m am planning having my dealer do some updates. Are you saying this can cause issues with the various modules? Wouldn’t FDRS just rewrite the module?

    • @RagnarKon
      @RagnarKon  3 місяці тому +1

      It all depends... which is the tricky part. Fundamentally FDRS is assuming you have a factory configuration, so if you stray from the factory configuration it'll give you a bunch of false-positives/false-negatives when it comes to software updates, configurations, alerts, etc. This can be confusing for a technician that may not know what you have previously done to the vehicle, and they may troubleshoot/update the wrong component.
      For example, I did an aftermarket audio upgrade and changed the configuration on my ACM with Forscan. FDRS now thinks it is in an errored state and believes it needs a software update, but it actually doesn't, and if I ran that software update it could mess up something. Now... in this case the Audio Control Module is a pretty self-contained unit and any changes you make to the ACM probably won't impact anything else in the vehicle other than the audio system. But when you get to the more important modules that control the vehicle stability systems, the engine, the transmission, etc. you could end up in a bad state. I've seen people who installed a performance tune before from a third party company, then they ran a PCM update, and suddenly their transmission entered a fault mode and wouldn't leave 1st gear.

      @DW-Truck 3 місяці тому

      @@RagnarKon thanks for the specific info. I flashed my PCM back to stock before I took the truck in for the HVAC and PCM update. I had a total of 12 modules that “needed” updates but I’m unsure how many were actually done. APIM was not one of them. It appears my other changes are still intact. These included various lighting / DRL configs, double horn disable, global widows, seat belts, and a few other minor things. I did make sure or backup every module with Forscan before the service.

      As far as I know the only "official" retailer in the United States is Grainger.
