This is a widespread problem, although Douglas College has been singled out here. NYU has recently been sued for allegedly engaging in an “educational scam” for providing subpar instructions, faculty, facilities, and opportunities in Asia. The truth is that none of these North American schools, despite the promise of the “exact same degrees,” can possibly provide quality faculty, instruction, facilities, and so on comparable to what students get at their home campuses in US or Canada.

I feel really bad for the innocent students that are going to be hurt by this.

Well, it is not a surprising issue anymore...there are millions of them in Canadian colleges and universities and one of them will say I will soon graduate oh yeah that's right.

Not what I was talking about, read my comment again. We dont care in canada because our degrees are better regulated than in the US.Whereas in the US the first thing they will ask you about your degree is where it was from. And yes there is infact differences in US and canadian degrees. For example even though we would consider US and canadian engineering degrees equivalent in standing, in germany the canadian degree has a higher chance of being recognized but the US one will depend on institution.

The Douglas College was/is also easy to make money from the Chinese students; money is the biggest motive here regardless quality of its educations, for Douglass College and other Western Colleges/Universities to lure the Chinese students to study at their colleges and universities.

The fact that there are legit universities at the fair is so frustrating. Like university of Toronto....I found my college courses were so hard even just for certificate course. So the fact they get handed their credentials for little to no work ....such bs.

No, their standards are just extremely low, hence why theres the UC system which offers world renowned diplomas instead of just a diploma.

What happens is, if a student fails the first, they take a new test a week or so later. But that is at real Chinese universities. What goes on with this Canadian for profit outfit is crap. I am an American economist and I had some really great students but I taught at the the top places, not these foreign places. Also at some places , they poor students get as diploma but not a degree. Harbin is very far North and not much of a place compared to Beijing.

There is only one way now, for canadian students to attend that college in china instead of the one in canada

Actually internationally speaking, major canadian degrees have more respect than US degrees where colleges and universities sping up like mushrooms all over the place. The topic under discussion in the video involves an isolated college's -international- program.

at around 3:00 he says "[in china] there is a belief that every student passes, [faculty has been ordered to pass failing students]... [if they don't it's the teachers fault]"
can someone verify this before i conclude that chinese graduates may not be qualified?

I can. I teach at university in China. It's absolutely true. This is NOT an isolated case. Take that to the bank my friend.

I taught ESL at -------------------'s Shanghai campus and there was definite pressure to pass students and if they were in the middle school program they passed 100% even if not qualified to. Talking with B.Ed Canadian teachers confirmed they were instructed to "dumb down" courses. Most of these students will never be able to actually keep up in an English University class. Recently found out the school is closing down within a few years with this last batch of grade 10 students

Funny thing these Chinese could actually go to a more prestigious institution that has been there for more time than Douglas College. New York University in Shanghai is one of the best.
