I remember training in Ninjitsu. Before training, we'd hit the punching bag as many times as we could for one minute and then take shots from the bamboo sword which would sting. We had to learn to practice under fatigue and some pain because as it was said to me," trouble comes at times when you aren't feeling your best" and "fatigue makes cowards of us all". So we had to get our wind up.
In this video I (Soke Anshu Christa Jacobson) explain why my approach towards ninjutsu training and physical conditioning is so extreme. We live in a world where violence, aggression, prejudice and hate is on the rise. The only way to excel and perform in a violent extreme situation is to be highly skilled in violence, through extreme training.
Agree. I just took up Ninjitsu this year at a later age after doing Tai chi and Qigong for a year and a half, which has been very tough, but It is the only way to get better.
Glad You Liked The Video! ♥ Mr. MacDonald, it is an honor to have you as a student in the Budo Ryu Kai, and I look forward to working with you further in the arts!
Man I wished I lived by you. Sounds like me talking. My Kung-fu school was intense like yours. I was hit, chased with weapons, and hunted. That was the first hour. People thought I was crazy for going when they saw how he teaches. I moved and to my disappointment ANY school after that never came close to energy and intensity. Danger existed in every class and you learned to love it. You are so right with these others, no matter what belt color and amount of training. If you dont know how to handle your fear you will freeze. I have seen it. Now when someone picks up a weapon I almost laugh and not because I am some badass who will kick his ass. Because a long time ago a crazy teacher taught a kid its a game. I hope all your students keep training hard. I am 50 and all that extreme training still benefits me everyday. I could go on and on but I leave that to the Master - may you always find peace
Awesome video! I totally agree. When I look into a dojo and see all of the teachers are out of shape and obese, it's a no go. I started training in Oyama karate and learned the essence of "osu!". You have to push your limits to be a martial artist.
Yes soke, you say very true. World is full of violence and hatred. If we want live and protect ourselves and our love beings, then we need to be stronger and we should be do not fear them. It's a great honor to learn ethics by you.
This was a great video; it gave me a little more understanding of the process of making a warrior. "To experience enlightenment, you must endure the extreme.". This reminds me of another quote from a Canadian novelist, Roberson Davies: "Extraordinary people survive under the most terrible circumstances, and they become more extraordinary because of it.". Emulating that extreme is one of the reasons I committed to this martial art in the first place, I want to overcome pain, misery, and smile through it all every chance I get. Thanks for sharing this, Sensei! It's hard to find more genuine teachers than you.
Many very good points indeed. You fight how you train it's about that simple. When we sparred there wasn't much difference between that and a street fight. Went home almost every night bruised and bleeding. But with every bruise and drop of blood comes a lesson that we can learn from if we truly want to. Your videos continue to impress and inspire.
The only time I do something easy, is when I listen to you talk for hours. It’s so easy and I love it! I’ll never reach enlightenment at this rate. Haha You’re my hero. 🤝❤️
On one hand, as someone who trained a few martial arts during my life I think you're a bit too extreme yes, on the other hand I appreciate how you put the point on your body being healthy and strong in order to ve a good martialist (and also being physically active in Ninjutsu, not just a mild approach).
I work in a gun shop. Wives are often against their husband buying a gun. But when something scary happens to the wife they are the first to come back in to buy a gun.
I love everything your doing your break my heart I'm glad your doing this this makes my dreams come true 💝💝💝 with bleeding heart ❤️ I'm coming to train with you you made dreams come true ❣️
Nice videos! I love how blunt you are. You’re spang on with other ninjutsu organizations. Nearly all of them teach taijutsu in a very relaxed Aikido like way, and like you’re wearing heavy armor.
Thank you for posting! very interesting how you mention the importance of staying within the one style. Have returned to ninjutsu after 35 years but don't feel it encompasses everything for self defence anymore. Perhaps this is because of the way it is trained. ( am not advocationg beat each other up all the time either) For me I have to two routes of striking and grappling different routes at this present time. Why is this? Well, if I want to train at 6am and spar and improve my cardio there is a fabulous Muay Thai Gym near me. (not many dojos are open then) Have recently discovered combat sambo, where, their sparring is the closest thing to date to what I remember a real fight feels like. Dipping into BJJ Judo and wresting recently has made me realize that my existing Taijutsu skills do not work against a grappler full stop. there is a huge risk of spreading myself to thin and Taijutsu is of huge importance to me, however I need to go out there and explore. Good luck with everything Christa, look forward to seeing your Ms Jacot's posts too. Regards Phil
The best self defense students are women hiding in shelters after being beaten almost to death by abusive cowards. The ones killed by abusers don’t come to class.

There is a reason why the phrase "Jack of all trades, master of none" is a derogatory phrase, and you explain just why here in this video. Although, I do not practice Ninjutsu, by my studies, I have found it to be much of an art of endurance. You have said it yourself in a past video that in a fighting situation, you have be able to endure more than the other person or you will be defeated, perhaps even killed. I hope that more people come to understand your approach to the training and I hope that it may save the lives of your students and the people they wish to protect.
I agree with you soak a they need to be able to take a head as well as give a head and it's like playing Tony wants you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen into cat Jane any extreme can protect yourself in an extreme environment or situation you are so right
I did bujinkan before and besides the yamaneko dojo in Arizona is ran by a cult leader, when I went to the main dojo i learned the sensei I was under didn't know the Yari blade from the shaft. In all honesty, I only learned how to handle an old woman attacking me. Don't get me wrong, that's what I needed as a martial artist. The issue with being properly self taught is you tend to not have much control strength wise. You can't train the next generation well with that. So I won't say it was completely useless. But even with the technical side of it, I only learned anything because I stretched my achelese tendon a few hours before class. It was then I realized quite on accident and through pain the type of punch in taijutsu uses the same mechanics as a bow loosing an arrow, as opposed to most others like karate turning the body into a whip... Issue is that's the way I taught myself before joining bujinkan. Trial and error, minor injuries and sparring with people. Flip I learned the pressure points out of necessity because acupressure helped those minor injuries. Certainly not a master at acupressure, but the wife loves my massages lol. Still committed, and people such as yourself, Antony Cummins and Shogo and his Sensei certainly help, as i believe a martial artist truly never masters anything but becomes better than yesterday, but I'm committed to my own family art now. Definitely suggest to people to find an open mat gym even if they're doing their own thing. Get hit, get choked. Fight through a friendly but painful sparring match. Because the alternative to this is to pick fights. As someone who's had people constantly trying to fight me in junior and high school to the point I have ptsd and a messed up knee, I can safely say I wish I learned on the mat.
Great video! My question is, there are older people out there that would love to train. Their body maybe tore up from life.....damaged shoulders, hips, knees. They still have a heart of a lion, be mentally tough, but physically can not perform at a high level. Do you accommodate them or tell them to kick rocks? Just wondering. Sounds like you have an awesome school.
We always try to accommodate our students' needs, and there are several ways we can modify our program for those with physical limitations. Please call if you are interested in ninjutsu training! 🙏🏻☺️
I’ve dedicated my life to God, schooling, and ninjitsu. And I’ll never let it go. I don’t get much training time because I have no one to train with. But I can already kick the butt of just about over half of the people in the world. Which isn’t bad for a year of training. I can’t wait until I get old enough to join the dojo.
Sounds alot like what I used to hear in the Army... "To be hard, you gotta live hard." Good stuff!
Direct and to the point! Awesome… That’s a Sensei!

Wow that sounds hard, where do you train?
Without sacrifice, there is no gain. Thank you, Soke, for the great video.
Thanks 😊
No problem 😊
You are correct Master. I've seen plenty of people get their ass whipped in these dojo. They didn't have the physical skills. It's so true Master.
An incredible amount of respect to what you do and your vision!

@SokeAnshu your dojo would be fun to train at. I don't mind getting my ass beat to learn new things.
It's a little far for me. Thanks for the reply!
Train hard fight harder.
had the dojo hit on me and fight with them so it was extreme work
