- It's Korean raw fish, aka 회 aka Hweh. We eat it for you, and show you how it's done. Step 1: order. Step 2: eat. It's that easy!
But, no, really: it's really different than Japanese sashimi. Totally different fish and different textures. Some of it's great and some of it tastes like gortforsaken poison. We show you some of the ones we like.

Oh my god Im just so thankful that you guys defined the tern 회(hweh) as a food different from sushi and sashimi.
Historically, the Korean culture of eating raw fish (hweh) was some hundred years ago passed on to the japanese where they developed it into a food called sushi

I am so excited! Tomorrow I get to go to the next town over and go to a Japanese Sushi place. And go shopping at the very small asian store. I found out that they get delivery of sushi on Tuesday and Friday, so we will only go on those days from now on. Yeah!!!

When you go to Hweh restaurant, you can ask denjang sauce (된장소스). And that sauce is soooo amazing with hweh.... i ask it every time..!

Simon was going somewhere with the apple thing, seafood I in French is fruits du mer, which literally translates fo fruit of the sea in English, which is exactly how Simon described it. You're welcome Simon 😁
Interestingly enough, it was China that had introduced the concept of eating raw food to Korea. According to the Analects, a compilation of Confucius' many axioms, he mentions the term "kuai" which is thinly sliced pieces of fish or meat. This concept made its way into Korea sometime during the Three Kingdoms era (57 BC - 668 AD).

Jan Kim it seems like it would be an aquired taste of sorts. I've never had any, they look kinda terrifying when they're alive. I had the chance to try them once and my reaction was 'you want me to eat WHAT.' fair to say I chickened out XD

In Korea, those white noodle things (or sometimes thinly cut radish) serves kind of like a decoration rather than something you can eat the hweh with. If you know that it's fresh though, sure you can eat it. However, many places in Korea would actually reuse the noodles/radish. They would wash it with certain chemicals and just place it on the next dish. This is why it's unsafe and unsanitary to eat. There was a documentary about this a while ago in Korea. Just if you didn't know~ ^^

OMG!!! When you eat hwe, you ALWAYS, ALWAYS, finish it off with mae-un-tang(매운탕)!!! Oh, and you know what is good? When yhe mae-un-tang comes, you can use the hwe to eat it like shabu shabu, and that tastes SOO good

If I know my fish correctly, gwang heo is black fish. It's ridiculously popular amongst all age groups of koreans

The grilled scallop that you eat is totally cheap in malaysia.they usually sell them around 1000won for a plate of that :)

fryed/grilled ones usually are but you can eat them! yea i know i hate them too. you can avoid them and just eat the fresh raw ones or avoid them completely! there are a lot of other really good food in korea to try out!

If you are not a fan of seafood would it be difficult to adjust to the ammount of sea food in Korea? I know there is more of a center on beef and chicken then in Japan but I am planning on visiting soon and am wondering if I need to get used to fish.

for really fresh seafood of course that reasonable! i don't know where you live but in US they are $20 and over for not even fresh seafood!
