Thank you for your honesty about Rainbow Fabrics ❤ I too have stop buying from them as the fabric is often poor quality , not as described, over priced, dirty or damaged, plus you have to wait ages for the postage.. being fobed of with a free reel of thread and a discount voucher for next time just doesn’t cut it any more.. I wish more vlogger’s were more honest, instead of singing their praises because they got free fabric.!

Your Ilford jacket looks so snuggly. Love the buttons and lining in the sleeves matching with the label and loop🎉. I have some blue and white textured gingham that I want to use. It's a similar size to your green gingham which looks lovely as a blouse. Thanks for the inspo xx
I am with you on RF. I shopped with them a lot at one point but found the quality really variable and also had several times where I would order and then 2 weeks later get an email saying that they didn't actually have the fabric left. I do find that they are good for occasion fabrics though so I always keep an eye out when they do those. Also, I find that the 'drop' thing sort of counters the sustainability element of deadstock fabric as it encourages buying enmasse. Sometimes I am not sure what is and isn't deadstock anyway. They recently shared a video at a factory making Embroidered fabric and they purchased a load from there which obviously is not deadstock. Lovely guys and there is obviously lush stuff there, but it's tough when the products are so variable! Xx
100% agree with you. Lovely people but it's greenwashing, plus it's not on to mis-sell the fabric - take the time to test the composition if it's your bread and butter.
Great vlog as always. Love the jacket you could do the under collar with the interlining it would look lovely and would take bulk down. You need to show us though what you look like n your garments though ❤
Good idea to change the under collar, I considered that but didn't have a suitable fabric. Sorry I forgot the photos, I even had them ready to add. Your makes are absolutely beautiful! I would never attempt by hand buttonholes! I have a heavy duty Janome HD3000 that handles all kinds of heavy fabrics. If you decide to trim the collar seam… make sure to grade it… the outside seam slightly shorter than the inside seam. I don’t think it is necessary though… it is really nice as is.
Thank you Mary. The buttonholes were easier than I'd thought and not particularly neat, but they'll do! I think I need to grade it near the front so the collar lies flat but I'm worried I'll end up causing a bigger problem...

Your jacket is gorgeous! I love it. Everything from the bigger pockets to the little inside pouch to the beautiful buttons is fabulous. Lesson learned from your video today is to try out a pattern on someone else and then use the experience to make a better version for myself. LOL!

Yes I’ve recently bought some fabric from Rainbow fabrics and it was a different colour and composition to what I’d ordered……so in future I shall buy less fabric and when I do buy , buy a better quality from elsewhere.
I'm with you regarding rainbow fabrics. Doubled their prices and other places sell way better quality for same prices now. I've had numerous poor quality fabrics. Stated as viscose but its poly. I know this is correct as I've even seen it on pound fabrics and that was lots cheaper too. There are certain utubers who work with Rainbow fabrics and say oooh it's great fabric etc all the time. They will say that as they are getting free fabric and probably a commission. I have deleted my email from their company now. 1st for fabrics is way better and their viscose is cheaper
Great video Tanya, thank you. I can't remember who I was watching on UA-cam recently, they had made a jacket and because of the thickness of the collar, they had used a thinner contrasting fabric for the under collar.
Hi Mary, I think I also remember someone mentioning that. Sadly I didn't have a matching fabric so just kept to the thicker fabric - I'm too impatient!

I took had something from rainbow fabrics recently that was not what they described. I bought some purple duchess satin, which turned out to be really rough and nothing like satin at all. They said I could have a refund if I sent it back at my own cost but it wasn't worth it.

Love your Ilford, but no idea how that went through the sewing machine! I've yet to test mine with thicker fabrics, although i believe it should cope. I have an Ilford lined up and have watched the lining video, so I hope to get that started soon (so many projects, so little time!). Mine will be needlecord with normal lining so hopefully not too taxing on the machine.
Enjoyed this video. Disappointing for you re your fabric which wasn’t as described on the website. I hope you will find some use for it, have you got enough for a pair of trousers? Re the buttonholes on thick fabric, I’m wondering if lowering the presser foot pressure might help? I’ve not done this before, but worth a try on a scrap of fabric. Your hand sewn buttonholes look very neat anyhow, well done

Look out for a 1980s or 70s Bernina sewing machine like Record, Sport or 1005 as they handle button holes on thick fabric 😊
Hi, I'd love to get a heavy duty machine one day. I think older machines last much better than modern day.

Hi, enjoy sewing up your Ilford, the needlecord will be a good weight fabric. I think my fabric was too fluffy for the feed dogs.

At 10 per meter the fabric should be much better than you describe.

Big 4 paterrns stink for directions, and that low neckline happens more often than not
