DEUTSCHE WIRTSCHAFT: Big bang at Evonik! Chemicals group announces massive job cuts
Evonik is pressing ahead with the realignment of the Group: from April 2025, the existing business units will be transferred to two new divisions - “Custom Solutions” and “Advanced Technologies”. With this restructuring, the company aims to become more agile and profitable. One management level will be eliminated, as the new divisions will be managed directly by the Executive Board in future.
Another focal point is the division of the Technology & Infrastructure Division. While the technology unit will remain with Evonik, the infrastructure activities, including logistics and the plant fire department, could be sold in whole or in part. Around 3,600 employees are affected. In addition, sales are planned in the polyester business and C4-Chemie, which means that a total of around 7,000 jobs will be included in the restructuring.
Evonik guarantees that there will be no compulsory redundancies until 2032 and is demanding equal employee rights from potential buyers. The new divisions target different markets: “Custom Solutions” serves niches such as cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, while “Advanced Technologies” focuses on low costs with high-performance plastics and hydrogen peroxide. Both divisions generate sales of 6 billion euros each.
