I was born in 1972. I lived in an all black community, all the older women, young women, teenagers and little girls had long thick hair, this was way before perms. We wore our hair natural and all we used was hair grease and water. This was way before deep conditioner was even a thing. Pressing/ hot iron our hair was down our backs coming out of our curly hair for a while.
grease and water was all I ever had in my hair way before the idea of putting oils and things like that. When it came to deep conditioning my mom would make her protein with egg conditioner for my hair. I haven't deep conditioned my hair in forever.
Back in the day all the mommas aunts and grandma had was water and grease the grease would lock in the moisture from water and you was set and they only wash your hair like once a month and I don’t remember no deep conditioning going on lol
Growing up we didn't deep condition, didn't use leave ins, hair butters, oils. We used VO5 shampoo and Conditioner, and the Blue jar of Blue Magic hair grease. And my hair was healthy, long, and pretty. Now I use Blue Magic Shea butter hair grease and water, and my newest fave Wonder Gro Coconut hair grease, and water. That's it!!
So so true!!! My hair was so long when my mom used blue magic. Here I am 46 years old going through a dag on LOC method for my natural hair. I started back using Blue Magic a month ago and I have minimal shedding , it shines for days on in, less dirty , and no dryness!!!! Come on HAIRGREASE!!!!!!!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽I will never turn my back again!!! On my mama!! 😆😆😩🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Blue magic has different greases, like at least 14 different kinds from my memory, they all have a different smell. I hate the original blue one but the others, the Indian hemp one and coconut one are my favorite, they smell sweet and light, I ordered the Shea butter blue magic a few days ago, it has coconut fruit extract so I know that one smells bomb too. But the kuza, yes
Grease is actually just 95% Petroleum, so you can actually just put Vaseline on your hair and save even more money. I think most people switched from grease not because oil was necessarily better, but because people were getting tired of having greasy weighed down hair, and oil (argon, jojoba, grapeseed) was the more light-weight alternative.
I use baby Vaseline sometimes but I feel like grease (that usually has oils and other emollients mixed into it) are softer and easier to wash out, my hair slightly prefers grease over Vaseline but they both work indeed!
I did this last year through year 12 because it was whoopin my butt💀 I retained length throughout the whole year and before I knew it my hair had grown 4 inches in one year with just water and Vaseline.
I still a grease baby...I use Blue magic the Super sure Gro and the Petroleum Jelly w/ aloe and vitamin e. I put grease after wash day and be good for a week. If I stretch it to 2 weeks I just wet and re grease it and be good for another week. Simplicity is the key my hair feels wayy better then when I used to do all those other steps. Never going back to complicated wash/hair days.
This is true. I've been using aloe vera juice to moisturize my hair and then I add a layer of grease, and my hair is able to retain length quickly. I do this daily as I wear normal sized twists.
I absolutely know what you mean about being ripped off with these "Natural Hair" beauty companies that use underhand ways to entice us into spending lots of money on products which don't really work. Good old reliable grease, which makes our hair feel soft, shiny and manageable. I bought two 12.0z pots of Blue Magic ages ago and still have plenty left. This and that oil are just gimmicks and are not effective either. Thank you for your content. Xx
My mom used Vaseline, baby oil, and castor oil on me and my sister and you're not wrong. We had long, thick hair! Now i mix old school greases together to make a SUPER grease for my 10 month old.
🤎 Growing up we used grease for the length of the hair for length retention. I’m from the Caribbean, so to oil our scalp and hair we used Jamaican black castor oil. I prefer a oil for the scalp because it soaks in and doesn’t clog up my scalp.
@@stellafosua5578Exactly. A group of Scientists and Chemist did a comedogenic test on hair grease and mineral oil and it turns out that hair grease and mineral oil have a comedogenic rating of 0. I’m 54 and we didn’t have a bunch of hair care product up. Blue Magic, stinky, sulfur, pink lotion, and water. But you also have to understand almost everyone including men, had long hair. This is what we use to maintain it. And born in 70 I never even heard about perm/relaxer until I was an adult. When you wanted to straighten your hair, which is what a relaxer is we use something called bear grease.
