When I was a kid we always used to ride our bikes up there. We found an old air raid shelter or two. I'd love to take my boys up there to see them but can't for the life of me picture where they would be now.
Many a happy winters evenings spent with my Mini Cooper at this airfield in the early 1960s, the runways were at that time still in reasonable order and prone to freezing over in the harder winters that we get now. thus turning them into skid pans.

What unit flew out of this field and type of aircraft? Just curious,lifetime World War II buff.
