I've had this jacket myself for 2+ yrs back to back winters from NYC to Minnesota I've been good. The only thing I wish I could change is the color because I got it in red and it's not subtle. So fair warning for those who want to keep a low profile don't choose red as a color option lol Yes It's steep $300 but you get what you pay for rings true here. If you live in places winter does arrive with force it's a great choice, you won't regret it northface really delivered a 5 star jacket.

Gotham kept me warm here in NYC. But that was a few years ago. Now I have a CK jacket and honestly it's really warm.

This Gotham 3 is awesome, just need a t shirt and jacket in the coldest of days. I noticed they even discontinued it and now make the mcmurdo in both parka and bomber versions. The Gotham 3 successor is now at 350.00 instead of 300. Never too cold to walk my dog now. Not a hassle to layer up just throw it on whatever your wearing and go
McMurdo has no built in mask, my favorite feature :(

@Henry DV Same! I bought a gotham 2 made in 2021 and no mask and no inner pocket!!! They must have removed it when they released the gotham 3. I'm trying to return it now
I bought this discounted a couple of weeks ago based on the reviews and frankly I don’t understand why they rated it so high. To me at best it’s average-good. On the plus side it’s well stitched and the fit is good, the inside baffles and zip are good. On the cons the buttons are tiny: I have small fingers and was struggling on cold days to close them, someone with big fingers would have issues. The pockets aren’t fleece lined though they are warmish. The exterior fabric feels kind of rough and bulky, it might be just a propert of hyvent. I live in Toronto and on cold days below minus 10 this jacket is simply not warm enough with under layers. If you can get it for cheap go for it, but if you want the best value for $ then try a frank and oak alpine or capital series winter coat: the moment you put it on you’ll realize how north face, Canada goose, etc just can’t compare literally to quality design, features like magnetic buttons or warmth for money..

The Gotham 2 got me through two winters in the Northeast US/Quebec. It's a seriously warm coat with a lot of down insulation, and the rib-knit hem does a fine job of preventing cold air from coming into the coat. Also, like every other Northface coat I've ever owned, my Gotham is durable in the extreme, a quality I appreciate in something that costs three hundred dollars. I'm sure the Gotham 3 is just as good.
All that being said, this jacket does have its drawbacks, one of which I consider to be a serious design flaw (spoiler: it's the cuff being placed inside the sleeve). The handwarmer pockets have no insulation, for one thing. If you ever get caught without gloves, they'll be virtually useless. To be fair, this is something the Gotham has in common with a lot of other winter coats. Also, the hood is too spacious from side to side, leaving the ears exposed to the cold. Lastly, this coat doesn't work well with heavy gloves due to the rib-knit cuff being inside the sleeve itself. Seriously, they need to fix that.
The Gotham 2 has the cuffs exposed, they're like sweater sleeves that form to your wrist. Still wondering if the gotham 3 or gotham 2 is better.
@@icarus2k The 2's cuffs are not exposed. That was a feature on the original Gotham. I actually prefer the unexposed sleeves, as they work better with gloves. Good luck finding a Gotham in any of its versions. They don't manufacture them anymore.

Problem is it appears once the gotham 3 came out, they still sold the gotham 2 but removed the mask and media pocket. Sucks because I like the design better and I think it is a better fit but those two items are a dealbreaker for me.

@@icarus2k Winter coats have gone downhill - a lot - since I moved to a colder climate five years ago. The Gotham's replacement, the McMurdo bomber, is pretty crappy. They actually put the drawcord for the hood inside of the collar, with the little clamps touching your chin.
@@azores15 Ugh. such a shame. I think I'm gonna go for a gotham 3 I found online. Goes for the same price of the mcmurdo with shipping and taxes but damn if its not worth it.
They also use VELCRO and not buttons anymore on the mcmurdo, which tears up the cloth cuffs. Stupid design.

Nice review showed a lot of features this jacket offers that I had no idea it had. Love that the faux fur can be detached! That's friggen awesome. I was sorts on da dense because of that fur but pretty sure I'll be Buying this. I'm glad someone at North face was thinking it might not be in everyone's taste.

Your jacket suppose to keep you warm, but you still cold , so that is telling me your jacket can't keep you warm.

Right from the beginning of the video you felt cold and at the end of the video you are still trying to go inside where it's warm, makes me wonder if the coat is actually warm or not.
I can't speak for him but if you was out in the cold without anything it takes a couple minutes to warm up. It's very warm 550 goose fill, I've been out with a t shirt in the low temps all good. If it's really bad out like 0 or below 0's with icy winds. A sweater underneath and that's it for layers for me. I don't feel cold at all. The other problem in places where dips occur in the negatives often. You need winter boots and jeans to match the heat from the jacket. Otherwise you will be warm at the chest area but feet will be freezing and so will your legs.
YOOOO yall are the best, love to see this convo. TBH it was the setting up the camera for different shots, taking the jacket off for some shots (+ grabbing snow) and all with with no gloves that really got me hahaha
Iclike the jacket just not the video and must not be that warm of a jacket if your wanting to go inside from being cold
